@Hoshiko I wouldn't be surprised if it's some sort of connectivity to mobile phones. If we can use them as a second screen for a game, then sign me up!

@Hoshiko I think they're going to bring back dual screens in some way. They said the Switch contains the DNA of all past Nintendo consoles, but if they REALLY want to follow through on this we need the dual screens of the DS, 3DS, and Wii U. If they were to come up with a setup that could fully replicate that, that would really make the Switch the culmination of everything they've done up until now.

My dream scenario would be if they can make a dual screen Switch where the screens can detach. That would be the best way to allow them to cover the three missing consoles without it feeling too awkward. Plus it would have the added bonus of allowing you to give a friend not just a Joycon, but their own screen in Tabletop Mode, which they could really play around with in multiplayer (and I can just see the marketing now, "The Switch (whatever) brings new meaning to split screen gaming".

@Professor_Plumber I am a Google supporter, I eat Apple for breakfast. Samsung can stay, they at least try to be cool.

@Professor_Plumber I'm gonna wait for a Gen 3 for the Pixel fold, knowing Google will have some kind of weird bug relating to the tech that will take 3 patches to fix.

@Owl1 @Professor_Plumber Interesting concepts, but I don't think an exterior screen when folded is really needed, especially for a Switch-like handheld. Handheld consoles have more buttons than phones and tablets and can't really be played one-handed like those phone concepts, so the Switch would have no use for a screen you can use while folded. The main purpose of a folding screen for a Switch would be for fitting it in your pocket and for demarcating where the touch screen would be.

There's also one problem these concepts couldn't solve which is how to emulate a Wii U-esque setup if they want to run Wii U games or come up with new ideas for how to use a Gamepad setup. For that to work, 1 or more screens will need to remain undocked while you're playing it on your TV. This is why I want the detachable screen concept, one screen could be docked and run on your TV while the other connects to your Joycons and serves as a Gamepad. Other than that, the only other alternative would be for the screen to stream to your TV instead of docking it, but as I said earlier the detachable screen idea would have extra benefits for multiplayer.

@Owl1 Well it's not quite "another 3DS", it'd be more like a 3DSwitch. And it's not like the DS and 3DS sold chump change either, the DS sold 150 million and the 3DS sold 75 million, so clearly a lot of people like dual screens. Now maybe it wouldn't be the most exciting upgrade if it was just dual screens, I can't see much in dual screens that hasn't already been done (the Gamepad, on the other hand...). But if they can implement it in a unique way that can add other things on, such as the detachable screen idea, that could give them something new to work with.

I think the Switch's successor's big innovation will be controllers that don't drift given stick drift is a big problem with all 3 rather than just Nintendo at the moment.

I just want dual screens back, so I can have a screen for maps and item inventories without having to pause the game. I don't know how they'll make something like that work with a dock, but I'm sure they could figure it out somehow.

I think Nintendo’s next console will look pretty much identical to the Switch just with some better hardware and better rumble features. I definitely don’t see Nintendo adding a second screen, think that would add to much to the cost of manufacturing and retail.

Also, I want to see more communication between Switches. If you have two Switches in the house, then being able to use one as a controller (with touch screen etc) could be amazing. Granted, this would be a bit of an ask. I like the idea of connecting them to make the screen bigger (like in Mario Party) too. I think Nintendo would have more gameplay ideas for something like this.

@GrailUK I don’t know if Nintendo wants to go down that road too much of having multiple Switch consoles work together to create a bigger screen outside of the mini game portion like they did with Mario Party. Think they’re going to want to have as many games work and play the same way when docked as in handheld. Makes marketing and game design so much easier.
