@Snatcher yeah I’d rather explore the beautifully detailed and densely packed streets of kamirocho where a one eyed nutjuob will pop out of the sewers to attack you rather than a big bland open world
Then don’t play totk it just doubles down on the stuff you find boring about botw. It scraps basically everything I enjoyed about the first and just becomes “play with the physics engine for 80 hours”
ARMS is the best game on Switch, maybe even the best game of Gen 8.
F-Zero, 1080, Waverace, and Excite Truck/Bots are all better than Mario Kart.
Pauline is hotter than Bowsette.

@judaspete Haven’t played the others but I’ve always preferred F-Zero over Mario Kart. Whenever I played Mario Kart with my friends I always wished I could’ve been playing F-Zero instead
@EaglyBird Ouch really? I thought it would actually fix those problems for me but if that’s the case. Probably going to wait till I finish (if I ever do Lmao) botw, and maybe then I will enjoy it, probably gonna try in another year, till then I got way too many games that need my attention.

@judaspete Agreed since both Mario Kart and F-Zero are for different audiences. I don’t get it when people think F-Zero won’t sell well because of Mario Kart, they’re entirely different racing games. One is technically a party game and the other is a hardcore racing series geared towards people with a specific skill level
I've always preferred the original Paper Mario over TTYD. The latter is a technically superior game with a much grander story but I just have personal childhood nostalgia with the original, the blocky N64 visuals made it look more appealing to me, and that game didn't have pacing issues like TTYD absolutely did with Chapters 2 and 4. Maybe the remake could win me over but I'm still holding Paper Mario 64 in slightly higher regard!
While I haven't liked what's happened to Paper Mario in the past decade as well, I didn't even like Super Paper Mario either. The whole apocalyptic theme just felt too weirdly dark for a Mario game.
@Sunsy Your interpretation of the original post is spot on. This isn't supposed to be a thread for hot takes. But was maybe a bit unclear.
I understand that podcasts can't always scratch under the surface and delve into more complex explanations, but there is occasionally a tendency to reach for easy, ready-made cliches about Nintendo ("Of course, because Nintendo is weird", etc.)
Could I do better? Nah, probably not...
I listen to loads of games podcasts and thoroughly enjoy them, even when I don't agree with them.
I'm not sure that these "hot takes" are any different from "controversial opinions".
"Hot takes" are supposed to be an instant reaction "right in the moment of hearing the news". They might be provocative but the main thing is that they are just an emotional "gut" response to something you've just heard. Most of the opinions aired here are contrary to popular sentiment but they've also been considered over a long period of time.
My personal "hot take" after last weeks direct for example was that it was definitely the weakest one since the Wii U era - maybe even weaker than any of the Wii U era directs - and that the new Peach game looks like C-grade material.
After contemplating things over a few days though my opinions have cooled a little. It's still not a top tier direct but it was probably stronger than the one that only had farming games and the content was stronger than some of the late Wii U directs.
@StuTwo I feel like these are just more aggressive lol.
That was my first impression of this thread too. I was sure it would be closed down but I guess it has settled down a smidge. Although why we need both is still a question. 😆
@Snatcher The original post was a slightly throwaway comment about people sometimes having low-effort explanations for the things that Nintendo does or doesn't do. It was not supposed to be about general unpopular opinions or hot takes. And it was definitely not intended to encourage aggressive posts, as that is not my bag!
@ninfriendo_1973 On I don’t mean aggressive as in mean aggressive, but just aggressive as in the tone of the post and just how it is presented overall, ideally I feel like people make an unpopular opinion and then they kinda try to defend it a bit, here I feel like they just tell you straight up without holding back feelings….At least that what I notice and do lol.

Continuing on with the Paper Mario hot takes, the Origami King is actually my favorite of the series. I loved the puzzle-ish battle system. The way that the ring system worked with your attacks reminded me a bit of Yoshi's Cookie!
