Topic: Nintendo "hot" takes

@Snatcher The original post was a slightly throwaway comment about people sometimes having low-effort explanations for the things that Nintendo does or doesn't do. It was not supposed to be about general unpopular opinions or hot takes. And it was definitely not intended to encourage aggressive posts, as that is not my bag!

@ninfriendo_1973 On I don’t mean aggressive as in mean aggressive, but just aggressive as in the tone of the post and just how it is presented overall, ideally I feel like people make an unpopular opinion and then they kinda try to defend it a bit, here I feel like they just tell you straight up without holding back feelings….At least that what I notice and do lol.

I'm not as excited about the Thousand Year Door remaster as I thought I would be.

For mine, the next Paper Mario game should derive equal influence from TTYD and TOK.

@Link-Hero Here's the definition of hot take from Cambridge Dictionary:

"a piece of writing or speech, especially on the internet, giving someone's personal opinions about a topic, usually strong opinions that have not been carefully thought about and that many people are likely to disagree with".

By that definition, hot take is basically just a somewhat aggressive unpopular opinion you don't bother trying to justify. Which has indeed been part of this thread.

Anyone have a hot take on the definition of "hot take"?

@ninfriendo_1973 Good, I had a feeling it would be about that. Indeed, I haven't listened to many podcasts, but I've seen lots of those Nintendo rumors via YouTube. Though I did see a hot take on YouTube recently claiming Charles Martinet was fired. Definitely a hot take, though I can't agree with it, since he wouldn't be the Mario Ambassador if he was fired from Nintendo.

That's good at least, whenever I do chores around the house, I do prefer to listen to news and discussion around gaming.

@Rambler I did and it got removed.

@Sunsy Being fired and getting a new job at the same place aren’t mutually exclusive, it’s a common tactic to avoid blow back in politics, corporate environments etc or in this case angry internet gamers.

Well I’m still waiting for a real hot take myself!

@Snatcher people on this site can get too precious for any real hot takes. However if you really, REALLY want a hot take I can give you one for the lols…It’s about time Charles Martinet was sacked, this is a guy who had been celebrated for decades by doing a racist pidgin talking caricature which has crossed over into real life and used to mock real Italians. The real shame is Nintendo still haven’t apologised for it!

@jump As someone who's an Italian American, and who had a great-grandma from Italy, I don't really see much of an issue with Mario. Sure, he's a stereotype, but I don't think any family member I've had ever had an issue.. especially not my grandma who grew up in a very Italian family.

@VoidofLight oh I really don’t care, people are just desperate for an actual hot take as the showing so far in the thread has been boringly dull I gave them one on request.

@Croctopus Personally I think both the last 2 directs were excellent. I can barely recall what was in the June direct besides Mario-related games, but this last direct had soooo many games I want even if there wasn't quie as shocking of a surprise.

@EaglyBird I wonder what took them so long to want to change style now honestly, because the other ones just look so bland now in comparison

A decade ago (plus or minus) they were making the best (in my opinion) New Sup game in the series and also Mario Maker which is just stupendously amazing. So I'm kind of glad Wonder wasn't out then instead. Plus Wonder just wouldn't have looked as good on Wii U. So I'm happy they waited for Switch, but I am a bit surprised they waited so long in the Switch's lifecycle to make Wonder. Then again, NSMBU deluxe continued to sell as one of Switch's top games for quite awhile, so maybe Nintendo just decided they didn't need more 2D Mario.

Between both consoles, NSMBU sold around 25 million. It will be interesting to see if Wonder can beat it (which would also mean tying or beating Odyssey).

@EaglyBird Oooooooh, I didn’t even think about that, and I hate the say it but chances are you’re right, he doesn’t like stuff like that right? Like he didn’t even want the story books in Mario galaxy. And some developers If I’m remembering this one of the link awakening devs slid stuff in the game, I think.

So if he didn’t like stuff like that chances are this, would bother him a bit lol.

@EaglyBird I agree they made too many new super games. nsmbu is a great game if you aren't burned out on the series. I didn't realize just how good it is until I went back to 100% nsmbu Deluxe a few months back. That had been enough years I wasn't burnt out on the series anymore. I don't think any of the 'New' games are bad at all, Nintendo just made too many similar games. Definitely glad they finally moved on.

Every New Super Mario Bros game is better than the other 2D Mario games.
