Anyone else a bit tired of hearing the following on Nintendo-related podcasts?:
"Nintendo have been keeping the Windwaker and Twilight Princess Switch ports in a vault since 1876. They travelled back in time to do this. Solely to annoy Nintendo fans. There can't be any other possible reason. Unless it is because Nintendo is weird / doesn't like money / etc".
I don’t believe a single leak about Nintendo. My thought is that the next Nintendo console will come out in 2025. But that’s it, I don’t believe any of that Switch 2 nonsense that comes out from these “insiders” and clickbait YouTubers that know absolutely nothing.
You only need to know about my many obsessions, which consist of Lego, Fortnite, Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox games, drawing on my Tablet, Dragon Ball Z, My Hero Academia, Thomas The Tank Engine, Star Wars, and Ninjago.
I've yet to see a single leaker who appears markedly better at predicting Nintendo's output than the sort of educated guesses that I could make myself. If you keep predicting a new Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Splatoon, Animal Crossing, etc. you're eventually going to score a hit, because they're mainstay franchises that Nintendo are going to keep making games in.
Meanwhile, Pikmin and Metroid Prime have been released on every Nintendo home console since the GameCube in some form. That they'd eventually make it to the Switch isn't that surprising.
At the opposite end of the scale, I don't recall anyone leaking the likes of Fist of the North Star Fitness Boxing or the Super Mario RPG remake, because they didn't form a part of any predictable pattern. Or at least anyone who might have done so made such scattergun forecasts that it was obvious that they had no inside information.
@Matt_Barber Funny you say that, because there was one leaker who hit the nail on the head with Super Mario RPG - and most of the more notable June Direct announcements, very notably teasing Elephant Mario, Prince Florian, the Flower Kingdom, and purple coins in Super Mario Bros. Wonder and the new Dragon Quest Monsters, which most people assumed was far-off due to its announcement simply being "it's now in development!"
To keep this thread from being derailed, I guess my hot take is that I generally enjoy Kirby games more than mainline Mario games, particularly when it comes to 2D. I just think I prefer having more offensive options for dealing with enemies, and it helps that the 3DS Kirby games in particular are far more compelling than New Super Mario Bros. has largely been. I'd also say Forgotten Land is a superior game to Super Mario 3D World (certainly Land), though I still like that game quite a bit. I haven't played quite enough of most of the other 3D Marios (a good bit of Galaxy, and I finished Galaxy 2), but I think I prefer Forgotten Land to all of them as well. It and Odyssey are in my top 3 Switch games.

You're talking about Pyoro, right? Those predictions were made two days prior to the Direct being aired. That's not a huge amount of advanced warning, so I'd think it reasonable to assume that it was someone involved in producing the video who has no other insight into what Nintendo are doing.
My point was rather that none of the people who claim to know months in advance - on the timescale on which games are actually getting made - picked up on either of them. They don't know, and they're just guessing.

I guess one difference of a game versus hardware is there is no reason for Nintendo to tell 30 different companies about a game a year in advance, but for hardware they kind of have to (dev kits, early release third party games, buying chips from chip manufacturers etc). So a year in advance for hardware is a bit more like the week in advance for releasing a YouTube video of a direct. Less super knowledgeable leakers and more just a large amount of knowledge floating around which can leak more easily.
um..hot take. 🤔 3D world is the best 3D Mario. That is a luke-warm take. Hotter take: I enjoy the open world of Pokemon Violet more than Breath of the Wild. It's just so easy and fun to traverse.
Nintendo are notorious for shelving software until they feel the time is right. Metroid Prime Remastered and Fire Emblem Engage were done a year before they were shipped. Pikmin 4 was supposedly finished before the Switch launched. The rumors of TP / WW Switch ports have been prevalent for years. It's not a stretch to assume those ports are ready to go but that Nintendo are reserving them to fill a gap in their release schedule.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,473 games (as of July 4th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 2 games (as of June 9th, 2025)
I thought this was going to be like the unpopular gaming opinions thread by the title. Anyway, I have to agree with this. I've seen YouTubers do this almost all the time.
My personal rule, unless Nintendo themselves announce something, nothing is confirmed. For me, I've been hearing about the Switch Pro for the past five years, and it's tiring. Same with the rumors of Twilight Princess and Wind Waker ports, been hearing about them for years. I talk about this with my friend and we both agree to wait for Nintendo to announce something. Once it's announced, it's usually confirmed at that point, and not a rumor.
I don't mind gaming YouTubers and those that talk about news, it's just people like talking rumors and spreading them. I would not be surprised if there are people holding out on getting a Switch because they believe the Switch Pro rumors and want a more powerful system. It's a great way to miss out on good games.
The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!
@Magician Exactly! For me, your explanation is much more plausible than ”Nintendo is holding on to these because they are so unpredictable and weird” etc.
@BobTheBunkerGuy Now I love OOT, but I love MM due to the story and atmosphere is amazing! And you might not like OOT but you have to admit that the environment at least in my opinion was enhanced in MM due to playing OOT first.
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!
