They'd host a Mario-themed direct and announce a (rehashed) Mario game for February but not a brand new Mario game coming out in November or December all after a lengthy news drought? C'mon people, use your brains.
@Euler Nintendo is not a monopoly of video games. Disney is not a monopoly of movies. They each produce their own products within their market space. This is like saying I have a monopoly of signatures, just based on the fact that I have my own signature.
Yes, IP laws prevent another company from making money selling goods using the IP of Nintendo without their permission. That's not a monopoly. Just because Nintendo isn't continuously producing the product someone may desire does not mean Nintendo is at fault.
I understand what you're saying; You wish Nintendo would make their old and/or out of print titles more readily available. That's completely relatable, I think we can all agree on that. Where my opinion differs is the idea that Nintendo has some responsibility to make these titles available on demand.

@damien33ad I think you misunderstand me. I never said it was terrible. In fact, I've pre-ordered it. I'm only saying that it isn't an ''amazing'' collection for that price. It's just alright, the bare minimum. I'm buying it because 3D Mario games are among my favourites. However, comparing to other collections by other companies, this is nothing to be proud of.
Also, I'm 100% certain there is no new content in this collection. They would've said so otherwise.
I honestly hope the holiday title is Wind Waker HD, I mean Nintendo's gone so far to recreate 2013 this year they may as well go the full distance and fill in the gap between Pikmin 3 and 3D World with Wind Waker HD.
The Switch doesn't need another Wiiu port. It has already gotten so many. But, the way this year has gone for the Switch, I wouldn't be surprised.
The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

But both Nintendo and Disney sell at least one unique product that nobody else can make (no direct substitutes available). Thus they have monopolies over the respective products. The harm to consumers and society obviously isn't as severe as a monopoly over an entire industry (which is why governments sanction them in the first place), but they still behave very much as monopolies (the power to limit supply to consumers at will being a critical one). And yes, if you had a unique brand logo you could trademark it and attain monopoly power.
Nobody is saying that they have a "responsibility" to make their old games available, only that not doing so is anti-consumer and oftentimes a dumb business decision.
@jump they could add Fawful from the Mario e Luigi franchise or King Boo, or Dixie Kong for Donkey Kong as the new Fighter for Mario Franchise for Smash Bros Ultimate.
@DennisNOR I know I've been harsh on Nintendo's reliance on ports over new games, but if there was one port I'd be ok with it'd be Skyward Sword HD (which is pretty likely to come out sometime given all the rumors). Hopefully Nintendo still has one more card up their sleeve. Given Nintendo's quick turnaround time for 3D All-Stars, I really have no idea what to expect.

If No More Heroes 3 is still on for 2020, that’ll be fine for me on the Switch. Next year will be SMT 5 and BOTW 2 so those are the big exclusives. I wouldn’t expect to hear about that 2D Metroid this year, so throw that into 2021 as well.
Mario 3D Collection will be fun to dip in and out of, but I don’t see myself marathoning these games. 64 and Galaxy I had a lot of fun with but I got bored with Sunshine and never complete it. I’ll probably play that one first.
It's unwarranted artificial scarcity and you can't defend that
What a load of pompous fart dust.
It's practices like this anniversary release that make things special. Special for the consumer and brand enhancing for the producer. Exclusivity is not a dirty word.
I'm really pleased that Nintendo continues to leverage the importance of exclusivity. While PS and Xbox seemingly sell-off their exclusivity to PC, it leaves Nintendo as the sole preserver of that feeling of specialness in video games.
If Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy were already available on the eshop, as individual physical carts, on Steam etc. then no-one would give a damn about this anniversary collection. It's their limited availability that makes this appealing.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@NotTelevision I reckon No More Heroes has a better chance of being released this than Bravely Default 2. Smaller studios/companies are more flexible with adapting to the pandemic changes than larger ones who have more red tape
