@jump Yeah, and I'm from NA, so my spreadsheet has NA dates
Although, I guess that just shows the droughts were even worse in NA than EU.
@Dezzy I mean, it's not just 3rd party. There was also the issue of the first party software alternating between amazing (ie 3D World, Pikmin 3, Super Mario Maker, Splatoon, Tropical Freeze, Wii Party U) and incredibly lackluster (ie Star Fox Zero, Paper Mario Color Splash, Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, Mario Party 10). So on top of the actual droughts, there was no 3rd party games AND a good chunk of the first party library wasn't worth playing.
@jump I'd prefer to see a game a year out from launch, than crickets for 9 months. I think in the Wii U era you also had 3ds announcements to tide you over. So it didn't feel like there were such big gaps.
The Wii U draught from launch to Pikmin was REAL. And imagine not being a Pikmin fan (me) but buying it anyway because what else were you gonna do lol
Once we got MK8 on Wii U I was pretty much fine - that thing can be played forever, but before that it was rough. What was that? Like a year and a half?
Wii U era was really tough. Especially after E3 2015 the expectations and hopes for Nintendo were really low. The release schedule was so bad we spent a good chunk of time just talking in the Zelda Wii U thread and joking about grass.
@-Green- E3 2015 for me was pretty much "I'm glad I got a XB1 about a week earlier". Nintendo E3 2015 was terrible and Microsoft E3 2015 was strong (RotTR shouldn't have had XB1 exclusivity though).
I think the number of first party games on Wii U would have been fine if not for the fact that most of them were sub-par. Only a few really great games on the system. I think the Switch already had a stronger library by the end of 2017.
@jump I think in the Wii U era you also had 3ds announcements to tide you over. So it didn't feel like there were such big gaps.
That's true too. They went from a two machine strategy to one machine to rule them all (something that hadn't been seen since the NES era). You were bound to have something to look forward on a Nintendo system.
@Don You'd think there'd be a smash bros announcement relatively soon. As the 2nd character of the season pass would likely have been shown at an e3 direct. A proper No More Heroes trailer is probably likely to be dropped soon as well.
Since it doesn’t look like a general Direct is happening soon, when do you guys think we will get the next shadow drop announcement?
Monday. They've often done 2 different events a week apart. So I think we get the 3D Mario collection announced on Monday, and that's the major release that's supposed to keep everyone occupied until the September/October Direct.
Given how many people love 3D Mario games, it probably will keep most people occupied.
@Wargoose Huh? Min Min was the character meant for the E3 Direct. Don't forget that there's only 3 per year now, instead of the prior 5 in a year. They're going to spread them out more.
Anyways, I still am doubling down on September being the next actual direct, so probably nothing but a partner showcase mid-August before that.
I think we'll get a shadow drop between now and the 10th August and a nindie or partner showcase by the end of August. I don't think we'll have a Direct until E3 time next summer. Maybe we'll get a Mini if they have a few small games in development or they wanted to combine a mario announcement with something like gameboy or n64 games coming to NSO.
I think we'll get the Animal Crossing update reveal next week, a Partner Showcase in early August (my guess would be August 3rd as there's rumours about a PS5 State of Play on August 6th) that gives a release date for Bravely Default II among a few other announcements (perhaps a Square Enix focused Partner Showcase and that's where the rumoured Tomb Raider collection comes in), then Indie World in late August and then a normal Direct in early September.
