For anyone who wants to make a JP account for the demo or import game... GajinHunter made a video
Also, Check out Google Translate app. It's way more accurate if you tap scan, and let it select characters off the page to translate into text, but the AR feature, while a little shaky translation wise, is so quick and easy (scanning is quick too though)
You have to align the text in the middle for the AR to recognize properly, so you just move your phone to center whatever you want to read. Check out this screen, and how it appears through the AR translator...
As you can see, you can just hold the phone up, see that oh, that's brave style, that's bushido (adept), that's striker style, that's guild style, etc. And pick the one you want. You could read all the other text on the page if you wanted (prob be better to scan) but this is clearly the menu to choose your style, and with the app, it's so easy. Bam. Done. Gotta love it.
Of course, if you learn Katakana, you'd see in the top picture it says, highlighted in blue, ギルドスタイル which is gi-ru-do su-tai-ru (which sounds out "guild style", since Japanese R sounds more like an L). So, couple hours learning the Katakana could save even having to USE the Translate App in many cases.
@Grumblevolcano You know how that was a mistranslated interview that people keep spreading around in ignorance? It's very easy to seize upon anything on the internet, but of course Capcom's going to look at the performance of its premier Japanese brand when it comes to the only current gen handheld for an idea of how to move forward with the series.
They've already stated that they're bringing more games to the platform and announced two more since that announcement. Monster Hunter is at a weird place right now since the Switch has an install base that's building from zero and they're bringing out an ambitious fifth gen game on crossplatform consoles. It's pretty obvious that Monster Hunter will continue on handhelds even if World sells a whole bunch, they just have to figure out if they need to develop 3DS versions as a base or if Switch is big enough to sustain exclusive MH games.
In that case, what's the official translation? Because this is from Capcom themselves.
No, the interview exert Grumblevolcano linked was about XX. The mistranslated interview was about Street Fighter. The quote about XX does not prove that another, totally separate game was a test for the platform.
The quote about Street Fighter was, "As Capcom, we aim to bring games to all platforms, and continue our research. As for the Switch, in May we will release USF2 and we will plan our support while looking at the situation [of the platform]."

That's... spot on actually. Of course they're going to evaluate each and every game to determine what kind of support to bring. They didn't sat determine if they'd support Switch. They said how, meaning they are supporting it, but they want to observe what people like and what people don't as they move forward.
If you read the entire transcript, they specifically state they tailor each and every game released to the taste of the target audience. As they should. You don't stay in business blindly dumping whatever games on whatever platform without analysing what types of games that audience tends to like/buy.
Between Street Fighter, Monster Hunter and the upcoming Resident Evil ports, that's three genres Capcom is evaluating right there. Who knows, maybe they're also looking at sales of other games besides theirs to see what is in demand.
But of course, the Internet will just keep on assuming the worst from them as always. If they were really looking for an excuse to not support the Switch, why would they waste money with the pretext in the first place? People really ought to listen to this quote from Issun: ''Let's prepare for the worst... but hope for the best!''. As in, accept the possibility that games you want might not come, but don't let it distract you from the ones that are.
I am going to want every game to play on my Switch portably, there is just no denying that. I am doing my best not to let the news get me down but I am just trying my best to wait for my favorite series or genres to finally make it. Luckily, Monster Hunter XX demo will be out soon. Mario X Rabbids, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Skyrim.
I am still deciding on if I will get the Japanese Monster XX.

Screw it, get it. How hard can it be to play, plus there's gonna be tons of us getting the game and playing, so any questions or resources will be shared in this thread.
And I mean... it's Monster Hunter, in HD with proper controls, on a Nintendo Switch... they could release this game in Martian and I'd still pick it up 😄

@JaxonH In all honesty I probably will. Monster is one of my most favorite series and I get to bring it everywhere to get use to it lol. That translator looked cool also, thank you.

Nice. Glad I already set up a Japanese account on my Switch when I first got it. Logging into the eshops of different regions is SO MUCH easier on the Switch than it is on the Vita!
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

Google Translate app. I can post back with some tips after I play a bit, but I only just started learning Japanese a month ago and despite soaking up knowledge like a sponge these past few weeks, I'll be figuring things out just like you. So I'd say grab that Translate app and test it out.
Doubtful you'll need it though. Except for maybe choosing your style.

Haha, I have the app on my tablet but apparently my tablet's camera is too low-res to capture any meaningful text to translate (and I currently don't have a Japanese keyboard for the tablet).
I did hear that it's possible to enjoy MH without any English text (for Westerners, obviously), so I'm just gonna try and make some sense out of the HUD and menus. Obviously... unless someone uploads a video about it or something, translating everything for someone else is going to be a bit inconvenient. Thanks for your help, though!
EDIT: Ah, I see. And I'm assuming the next menu after the Modes Menu (after choosing offline play) is a menu for which boss you want to face off against. And then the next one is a "choose your weapon" kind of menu?
