Yeah some things could have definitely used some improvement. The book that the Felyne carries for example looks absolutely awful and is pretty apparent.
Overall though, MHGU is a really good looking game for being, quite literally, an HD version of a 3DS game. I know they made some other improvements with lighting and God rays, etc etc, but generally speaking it's basically just an HD version of a 3DS game. And I swear it looks phenomenal as such.
Like, Monster Hunter games on the 3DS were made with such incredible detail, and half of it you couldn't even see properly because of the poor resolution, which for most developers would mean not even bothering, but not Capcom. They developed the game like it was a home console game, but simply used lo-res textures. Which not only made it one of the absolute best looking games on the 3DS, but gave it the edge it needed to translate over to home console and still pass as a home console game.
The classic games were never given that large of a budget, but I am in awe at the level of detail of the 3DS games. I mean, the fact they literally took the last 3DS game and rendered it in 1080p, and it passes for a home console Monster Hunter game (better than MH3U even), speaks volumes to the quality of the original game.
And I have to be honest here. After playing 240p portable MH for so many years... this game blows my mind every time I fire it up. Call it conditioning of low expectations, but I have grown accustomed to such a rudimentary experience of handheld MH, for so long, that this honestly feels like just as large a leap forward as World, at least in terms of handheld MH.
Brother came over today. He's starting out fresh, so I helped him farm some LR armor, weapon, and get to HR2 in the hub. At least he'll have a good foundation now for when he's playing solo.
And btw, local wireless is where it's at! We're sitting here playing locally, no internet required. Even when the online pay wall starts we can still play together every weekend that he comes over. I mean, i'm going to sub for the online just because it's only 20 bucks and I want to play Monster Hunter online and I want cloud saves, but even if he doesn't we can still play online for the rest of eternity thanks to the local wireless.

So full disclosure, I have always thought that recovery shots are useless. It would be so hard to actually shoot a hunter with a healing shot. The other day my group was getting pummeled and I figured what the heck. Wow. It's an AOE heal. Now I am considering having a light bow gun support build lol.
