World didn’t have gyro.

I, however, mapped virtual mouse to gyroscope in Steam thanks to its glorious in-game controller config which allows you to map Gyro in 30 seconds, then set it to only activate with L so that it wasn’t always on, but activated when holding L to aim slinger or clutch claw (or ranged weapons if that’s your thing).

Normally I'd say "75 days and counting until launch."

But my Amazon order is coming via snail mail, so closer to 80 days for me.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

Normally I’d be going nuts thinking I have to wait another 75 days.

But this demo will keep me sane up until release.

I haven't tried the Horn yet! That'll be next in line.

As a newcomer, I just find the gameplay loop relaxing. You're out in the open, walking around and exploring the terrain, chasing after monsters. I don't even worry about the main mission sometimes, just focus on the secondary monsters to try out moves and get used to the controls. Great vibes all around.

I also like that the fighting is really technical and the opposite of button-mashing. Like, the game violently discourages button mashing. You can't get anywhere that way. Can't even land a hit with most weapons. It's challenging stuff.

...I had a dream that the Sandy Plains was revealed for Rise...I didn't like it, the entire map was filled with mud. lol

If those rumors/leaks are true, then, give me the real Sandy Plains already! >.< lol

@Beaucine Heh. The demos only ever show off a fraction of what makes these games special (because they completely ignore the village/crafting sections of the games), so if you're enjoying it just from the demo, you're going to love the full release.

And yeah, I also enjoy the technical depth of the combat. It's very satisfying learning how to effortlessly defeat foes who terrorized you before. A lot of that is learning your weapons as well as learning the movements and capabilities of your opponents.

Currently Playing: Yakuza 0: Director's Cut (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

Beaucine

@Ralizah

Yeah, so I've heard. I'm counting on the full release being even more satisfying. But just the basic loop of chasing after the monsters and running around is already compelling, in and of itself.

The wirefall.

It’s so good. So good.

The best advantage a monster has is knocking your hunter down. This gives them an opening to gain advantage and can leave you in a tight spot when you get back up, missing a huge chunk of health and maybe even poisoned or blighted.

The wirefall is an instant recovery that lands you back on your feet, weapon sheathed, and running in the direction of the wirefall, allowing you to wirefall away from the monster and immediately start chugging potions or antidotes or chewing nulberries.

I like to use my wire bugs for attacks, but every time I get knocked down and don’t have a wirebug left I immediately regret it.

This game is a miracle on Switch Lite. An absolute miracle.

It looks soooo good in handheld mode, it runs soooo well, and plays like a dream. I think back to my MH4U and MHGen days on 3DS, and quite frankly Idk how we managed. THIS is what portable Monster Hunter was meant to be. This is it. They freaking NAILED it.

They can go on to release whatever they want on future home consoles- that’s fine, that’s great even, I’ll play those too, but just knowing I’ll always have Rise to fall back on for portable and local MP MH without sacrificing tv play to get it... that is massive relief.

Another good tip:

Set camera distance to 40. It zooms out just enough so that when you hold ZL for activating gyro, your wirebug/aiming reticle is above your hunter’s head, rather than on your hunter’s head. It can make a aiming throwing knives difficult when you can’t see what you’re aiming at through your hunter’s head.

But at camera distance 40, it doesn’t feel too zoomed out, about where MHGU camera distance was, I’d estimate, but allows the aiming reticle to be above. It works amazing.

How to do wirebug offensive moves with bow? When I hold ZL it activates the aiming cursor, not the wirebug cursor, and X and A are the apply/remove coatings button and melee attack. How on earth are you supposed to activate the special wirebug moves with weapon drawn?

Fyi I've never played bow before either so this is completely new for me as is

I've spent some time on the demo. Even though the game doesn't click for me yet, I can say that this is a good a game. The demo is much better than MHGU's was. The buttons, items, menus and possibilities are so overwhelming for newcomers, that it takes some handholding to bring people in. This demo does that much better.

The game looks absolutely stunning. I mainly wonder whether this is not too overwhelming for me, whether I have the time and patience to 'get' it. Besides that, most games I play are bit more 'chill'. This may become the exception though, just not sure yet.

@JaxonH I haven't been online much these past few weeks due to circumstances, but dude... I came to the forums specifically out of curiosity for your reaction to the demo and may I say: you never disappoint! It's been fun as always to read ~4 pages of pure joy and excitement. I'm very happy for you (and all other fans of course) that this demo lives up to your expectations. This time I may hold you up to your offer to do an online hunt. I'm usually not that much of an online gamer, but I can imagine why it's fun for this game.

More Pro Tips For Beginners

  • Start with Dual Blades or Long Sword. Long sword combo is X X A X X+A
  • Turn off auto sheath
  • Turn on gyro, disable for camera though
  • LOCK ONTO THE MONSTER WITH R3, and then tap L to swing the camera at the monster as needed
  • Stamina drains over time- all that red is lost max stamina. Eat a ration or well done steak to refill (try to do when not in combat lol)! Also, sharpen your weapon with the whetstone every time the monster runs off or when sharpness decreases from green to yellow.
  • KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR HEALTH! Half health is not good enough. One water spout attack from Mizutsune Will one-shot you if you’re not at full health. Stay topped up any time you’re a quarter below full.
  • Don’t ignore your items. Take from supply inside camp tent and the blue item supply box outside of the tent. You have shock traps, pitfall traps, etc... Use them! If Mizutsune affects you with bubble blight, use the cleanser to get rid of it.
  • Learn to sheath your weapon in between attack bursts. Leaving your weapon drawn kills your mobility. Attack, attack, dodge roll away, sheath, reposition —> rinse and repeat

Any questions, feel free to ask

Bookmarked, thanks.

The monsters audibly snore when sleeping now! 😂

Maybe they did that in World? If so I never noticed.

And the hunters actually whisper when speaking around a sleeping monster.

I’m not really an online gamer either. In fact, aside from Splatoon, I can’t think of any other game I’ve ever played online publicly... except Monster Hunter.

This game is just something special. The community has comradery, friendship, an eagerness to help mentor new players... it’s the one game I feel completely at home playing online in. Even so, I do still play a ton of it solo. But it’s just fun to hunt with others sometimes.

It can be overwhelming, but this is the worst it’ll get. The overwhelming sensation you feel now is the most it will ever be. It only gets easier moving forward as you start to learn the game. And while I’m not going to downplay its complexity, I don’t think it’s hard to get into as most people think. It definitely takes a long time to master, but I think of it like the 80-20 rule (pareto principle). You can experience 80% of the fun by understanding just 20% of the game. That’s a pretty good deal, all things considered. But as you learn more and more the level of fun does start to increase from 80% to 85, to 90, to 95, and eventually one day when you’re a veteran, 100% of the fun is available to you as you understand the mechanics in their fullness.

Noises, ok. Never noticed. But I mean snoring- actual genuine snoring. Ahhhh chuuuu... ahhhh chuuuuu snoring. And there’s bubbles when sleeping again, something World didn’t have which adds to the charm.

@JaxonH I think MH is made for online play, I just have more fun when I hunt with people then myself.

I dunno, I considered the noises to be snoring...I dunno if anyone has made a video about the snoring in older games, but yeah.

I quite like it when monsters sleep. It's very satisfying waking them up with bomb barrels placed right at their head.

Lol good one 😂

It’s so adorable though. Monster’s snoozing away, little sleep bubbles above their head. This game oozes old school charm.
