You mean everyone has to be in the hub before beginning a hunt.

No late-join flares?

@Balta666 I liked the freedom in world to start doing a solo mission, kill a few of the easier monsters and then send up an SoS flare when I was running out of time to quick kill the monster I was hunting. It was also nice being able to stay in an expedition with a team after a hunt if they were a good group, rather than going back to the hub and sit waiting for your turn to pick a hunt again.

@Magician exactly

No. Only with regard to the hub.

It's going back to split Village and Hub quests, which is a GOOD THING. World system was crap with unskippable cutscenes ruining co-op progress. That and 4 person hubs.

Which we've known for months now.

Everything else is exactly like World.

@Magician
They didnt say that. They simply said its using separate Hub instead of shoehorning co-op into the single player campaign which cut the quest content in half and forced co-op to be interrupted with every cutscene. Which meant you starting the quest solo, me starting solo, then me quitting, then requesting to join you. It was absurd.

They havent said anything about SOS. Someone said they are in, but Idk for sure yet. But frankly it's not a big deal either way. SOS had as many downsides as upsides. Wont make much difference whether it's in or not. That said, it's probably in.

Idk what that person is talking about. Weve known about separate hub multiplayer for months. That isnt new information.

@JaxonH

I was just curious as to what MrFuggles was referring to. How the online multiplayer functions is of no concern to me, I'm all-in on MHR regardless. Although I'll probably be playing it primarily offline since I see almost zero value in being an NSO subscriber at the moment.

@JaxonH will see how the multiplayer plays in the Demo and make my mind up after that.
Can you still do multiple hunts from the hub or pick which hunt you want to from a board and join one in progress?
Also do you think we will have to keep going back to the hub after each kill to mess around restocking ,or will we be able to stay in an area hunting and refresh kit from camp as needed.

The tent for restocking is included in Rise, which they showed off back in October.

They've also already confirmed free hunts will be included in some form, be it expeditions or something similar. Dont know if you'll go back to the hub after each hunt, but even if you do, it's not really a big deal, because unlike World, you're not in some giant 16 player hub. You're in a 4 person hub. So you're in the same group every time. You have to take on a new quest anyways, doesnt make any difference if it's in the hub or at camp. All that said, there's a good chance it'll be exactly how World did it, given 95% of the game is identical to how World did it.

@JustMe hopefully, that's what I spent most of my time in on World. Its annoying how they drip feed information, I haven't bothered reading up and them watched the presentation thinking it will give a good breakdown of the game and it didn't really - it spent more time talking about characters that don't even matter in this kind of game than about gameplay elements.

@JaxonH thank you, that's what I'm hoping for.

@JustMe fingers crossed. Might keep my pre order, if I don't like it I can always sell the Amiibo and get some of the money back.
I suppose I feel how you guys felt when world came out and not liking all the changes lol.

I personally love the larger lobbies and the immediacy of finding players - if no one's running a monster you want to grind, simply start a bounty with good rewards and fire up an SoS flare. That's going to be tougher with a pool of 3 people to choose from - especially if they are grinding different monsters

@Mr-Fuggles777
That's not how 4 player lobbies tend to work. People dont go do their own stuff. They work as a team and go on 4 person hunts together. If you want to hunt a monster different than what they're hunting, simply join a different lobby for the monster you want. It's the same thing, but without losing that personal connection. The 16 player hubs didnt feel social at all. Because you constantly hunted with different people for different things (in which case, why not just join a different lobby). Many people prefer the smaller, more focused lobbies where everyone isnt off doing their own thing. You either hunt with a group of friends, you start a turn lobby, or join/create specific lobbies for whatever you're looking to do (farm specific monster, do key quests, etc).

I get you only played World and so you have this narrow viewpoint of what you want. You liked what you played and now you want everything identical. I get it. But you didnt know you liked it until playing it for yourself. You discovered you enjoyed it through experience. Go into this with an open mind, and you might discover you actually prefer this more.

And if not, oh well. Even World had plenty of aspects I didn't like (such as the 16 player lobbies, not separating MP quests, clutch claw, skill system, etc). The bigger picture is a game so amazing, little niggles and imperfections cant hold it back from being one of the best of all time.

Yeah the main point of joining a lobby is because 4 well-organized hunters kill faster than 1.

Is this game going to be able to be completed in single player only or is it really an online game with a mediocre single player (asking historically as I will try out the demo, just curious how this series tends to run as I’ve never played it before but My interest has been piqued)?

@JaxonH to be fair I wasn't sure about world - a few guys in my Destiny clan talked me into after being burnt out by lack of content in D2.
I loved how dynamic the world was, how the Monsters were erratic and felt alive and you had to adapt on the fly even after you had learnt their attack patterns - for example another moster trampling through and ruining your traps and plans etc.
I pretty much any exclusively online and it sounds I'm probably one of the few people that liked having people drop out and others join during a hunting session or expedition - it gave me new people to talk with, unless they are close friends that you have a lot in common with, doesn't it get boring talking to the same 4 people for upwards of 15 hours in a lobby?
I'm hoping that I can get past these changes as I really want to enjoy Rise and desperately need a game to grind on switch.

Playing alone is viable in MH games. Typically the games are scaled to be easier the more hunters are in the squad. My concern is NSO servers potentially not performing well. Local multiplayer should be just peachy though.

3rd party game, pretty sure the game will run fine online. If this was a 1st party Nintendo game, like Super Mario 3D World, then you should be worried. lol

Monster Hunter games are equal parts single player and multiplayer. You can play single player only, and many do, and itll be the best, most epic single player game of your life! But you can also play multiplayer, and itll be the best, most epic multiplayer game of your life!

That's why MH is so amazing. It's just as good in single player as MP, though hunting with friends makes everything more fun.

@Mr-Fuggles777
I dont think it gets boring. It's not like you have to stay in the same lobby. People come and go. Lobbies are always in flux. Person A leaves after 2 hrs, someone else replaces them, then person B leaves an hour later, and someone else replaces them, then you leave an hour later and join a new lobby...

Like I said, go into it with an open mind.
