You know what I just remembered? I barely played Freedom Unite, towards the end of low rank with Lunastra, but the 2nd Gen Volcano I wouldn't mind seeing return in a 5th generation game. Mainly because the map changes depending on the time of day (the Swamp/Marshlands did something similar actually).

It would be pretty neat seeing these maps change during gameplay with the dynamic time system....well, unless they remove it but there's no point in doing this honestly. I'm hoping weather also remains, because I liked the Flooded Forest during the day when it rains. I think I just like the rain in MH in general. lol

But yeah, the lava in 2nd gen volcano would change depending on time of day, and the Swamp/Marshlands would get pools of poisonous water here and there at night. With how the time of day actually changes during a quest, hopefully this remains in Rise and we can get maps that physically change a bit as time passes.

That Switch Axe is so sexy. And the great sword is like a dang meat cleaver. That’s the thickest great sword I’ve ever laid eyes on.

Wanna play some MH World? I’m on Steam though. Once Iceborne released I switched to PC where online is free and 4k 60 ultra with gyro aiming flows like milk and honey. I’m doing a new playthrough and just got to high rank, I believe (just drove off Zorah Magdaros).

But you have the game on Steam too, right?

I have it on Steam, but not Iceborne, honestly I don't think I even have the game installed anymore since I got a new SSD. I kinda lost interest in the game for a while now anyways, I keep finding myself playing GU every now and then, though.

Which, on PS5 it looks the same as on PS4, but with the unlocked framerate in resolution mode is able to maintain 60fps. Of course, on the S it may need to be in performance mode to ensure 60 (sacrificing the higher resolution mode to achieve it) but, either way it should be able to hit 60.

It also has super fast loading now, roughly equal to what my PC does with an SSD (as you said, the games werent designed around the ssd). But it's pretty fast loading. Like, just a few seconds. Versus 1 minute + loading into a quest which was absolutely ridiculous before. It was one of the big benefits of switching to PC, actually, though now the new consoles can at least offer that.

Overall, its 60fps and fast load times. May not sound impressive reading off a bullet point list, but I assure you, those are the 2 best improvements one could have hoped for (well, that and gyro aiming, but obviously that ain't gonna happen on PS/Xbox).

This is the thing that sucks about World. Everyone's spread out across different platforms. I'm on PC, Joey's on PS, Darth is on Xbox, then you've got people who never upgraded to Iceborne, further splintering the playerbase into 6 different groups, and in 2 of those groups there are also those who havent paid for online. So theres actually 8 different demographics and the stars have to align just to find someone to play with. Joey needs someone 1 on PS, AND 2 with Iceborne, AND 3 who subs to PS+, meanwhile you need someone 1 on Xbox, AND 2 without Iceborne, AND 3 who subs to Xbox Live, meanwhile I need someone 1 on PC, AND 2 who has Iceborne.

Thank goodness Rise is going to be one single playerbase for like a year. Sure, the Ultimate version will splinter it some, and so will PC, and the online, but it's still less platforms with a lower cost of online entry and only one version for all of 2021.

@DarthNocturnal I think many of us feel that way to some degree, considering that a lot started off with 3 ultimate.

So I just got these rad dual blades that look like claws. Im not a db person, but claws really peak my interest. I was really curious how the game would handle the whole underhanded grip thing in demon mode. I dont know what I was expecting, but no. Sadly enough, they do not morph into a more savage appearance upon entering demon mode. They dont change at all. So in a way, these things are actually a bit dull compared to regular dual blades.

So yeah, I hope that's a thing in rise, certain weapons taking on special appearances when the right conditions are met.

Edit: I have to say, holy crap on the Hunting Horn! I didn't expect the least used weapon to get so much development attention! And I look forward to hearing what they sound like. Although, it does kind of worry me that the monster in that showcase was mainly standing still or just immobile.

Here’s a surprisingly good analysis of the new hunting horn video from a creator I’m not familiar with. Saw it in my feed and was pleasantly surprised with their knowledge and footage from other games to compare with.

What if instead of being single attacks, the different element wave songs replaces those encore recitals? Wishful thinking, but that would be so cool.

ATTN: Those who wish to voice chat in MH Rise:

You will need a headset which can connect to Switch, but also connect to your phone via Bluetooth for Discord, and mix the audio. There are more expensive headsets which can do this ($200 and up) and offer full wireless to Switch via dedicated dongle, and Bluetooth to phone, but again, they’re expensive.

The only $100 headset ever made that can do this, and is a quality headset, is the Arctis 3 with Bluetooth 2019 Edition. It connects to Switch via headphone jack (just run a 6 foot extension cord if docked, they’re $5 on Amazon) but then connects to your phone via Bluetooth, and mixes the audio. Unfortunately not many people bought them, presumably due to the fact not as many people play online and voice chat on this platform, so they discontinued the model after the 2019 edition released. But there are still some stores which have some stock. BestBuy is one.

I personally own this headset and put in hundreds of hours into MHGU with it, voice chatting with my brother on Discord. Anyone looking to voice chat in MH Rise, this headset is a must (and frankly, it’s a must for voice chat on Switch in general).

The hype is slowly building...

It is indeed.

Once the demo drops it’s gonna be no holds barred. We’ve gotta spread the word when the demo releases to get as many new players to try it as possible. That’s how MH World blew up. It was the demo. People played it and loved it so much, word of mouth hype spread like fire. I’m hoping we see a similar effect with Rise.

So, I didn't have a PS4 to use back then, but how did World's beta thing work out? I figured Rise's demo will be the same way, do you just get one map to wander around for a while with a target monster to deal with? How many monsters show up? Or was it always the same 3?...

It was very much similar to demos of old.

You had 3 timed quests to choose from (timer was less than 50 min... I think it was 30 but I could be wrong), one low difficulty, one medium, one high. I can’t recall but I do think there were multiple monsters on the map, just like a real quest from World.

The real difference was that it was PS+ exclusive. If you weren’t a member you couldn’t play. Then the 2nd demo was for everyone, closer to release (though you still needed paid online to hunt MP).

....Oh, I thought it was just one quest this time, and the monsters that show up (besides the target) were random or something. Ah well, so I'm gonna guess the maps we'll get are the two that were already revealed then and no 3rd map? o.o

Probably only have one map in the demo, maybe two if we’re lucky. Can’t remember if they had Wilspire Wastes in the MHW demo or if it was just Ancient Forest... might have had Wildspire Wastes because I’m pretty sure Nergigante was the hard quest. Then again, I remember an Anjanath and a Rathalos turf war, so maybe not. It’s been so long it’s hard to recall.

I’d just count on Shrine Ruins being the map for all 3 quests, and if we get lucky, we’ll see Flooded Forest for one of them also.

I think it was both maps...? But World also had like, multiple open beta things. So maybe we'll get the Shrine Ruins this time, and in Feb. or something we'll get the Flooded Forest? o.o
