Ehh. Just not a fan of how modern MH relies a ton more on Subspecies. A lot of the monsters I really want to fight aren’t in Sunbreak or Rise. Monsters like Zamtrios and Tetsucabra. Rise’s tower defense mechanics also really bugged me, although I heard that those mechanics aren’t as prominent in sunbreak.

I mean, that's fair, but that's just a reality of 5th gen games. Neither World nor Rise will be able to match the variety of a celebratory entry that simply stood on the shoulders of 10 years worth of games recycling the same old maps and skeletons. There's realistic limits to what one dev team can create. In 15 years, we may get a celebratory title that has such variety once enough games have released with redone monsters. But I don't think it's fair to criticize a game for lacking variety of a celebratory title that had 10+ years of monster assets and AI to draw from. It's fair to want that, but it's not fair to realistically expect that. Which is why I never complained about World's roster lineup, and Rise, despite OBVIOUSLY not comparing to MHGU, is a MASSIVE improvement over World. So I'm actually impressed and satisified with the progress being made, understanding there's no magic wand they can wave to magically make 120 large monsters just appear out of thin air completely redesigned.
As for the Rampage, it was hit and miss for some. Just as the big elder dragon showdowns were hit and miss for some in World. Neither were my favorite, but I will say I enjoyed the rampages more than the elder dragon showdowns in World. But, I didn't grind them. I basically did the ones for story and moved on. They're a nice change of pace limiting them to just story required missions.
And you're right, Sunbreak didn't feature any rampages. Sunbreak is absolutely fire. Rise is good, don't get me wrong, but Sunbreak is by far my favorite MH to date. I learn a new weapon for each MH- it's tradition. And for SB I learned the Great Sword. The switch skills combined with counters turned the GS from a clunky bore fest into the most exciting weapon I've used in the series to date. HIGHLY recommend GS in Sunbreak, as well as Switch Axe.

Despite GU having Prowler mode, one of my favorite things to ever exist in Monster Hunter (also it had my possibly #1 favorite final boss, lol), I will admit, GU kinda went overboard. Way too many quests, monster roster was fine...as for maps, I feel like they focused too much on 2nd and 4th generation. We only got like, what...2 1st generation maps (one of them being a remake, dunno if I'd count that, lol)? And 2 3rd gen maps...just wished they were balanced out a bit. Hyper monsters were also kinda just...there...
Deviants started out underwhelming in the original Generations, most of them felt like the same monster but only bigger and more powerful. At least they got some new moves in GU's G-Rank, and some of the other Deviants were fine like Grimclaw.
Anyways yeah, dunno if GU is my #1 favorite...

@JaxonH Yeah, I get why they don't have as many monsters. They basically retooled everything with World, so they have to build up what they were missing. Just that it feels like a lot of the cooler monsters haven't made it over yet. That, and they're putting juvenile or infant versions of monsters that aren't in the game.. like Zamites being a thing despite Zamtrios not being in. Or having a child version of Tetsucabra without actually putting Tetsucabra in. Jagras without Great Jagras. Just sort of feels off seeing those monsters in Rise, but not actually having their main monsters in the game.

I keep trying to play other weapons, but I just constantly go back to the gunlance...no matter what game. (besides GU, because, you know...Prowler, lol)

@Magician
Switching up weapons is one of the greatest joys of MH.
I played Switch Axe, Hunting Horn in base Rise. I played Great Sword and Bow in Sunbreak. 4 weapons fully invested. I also played at least 50-100 hrs of Gunlance, and 50-100 of Insect Glaive. Rise is just magnificent with its weapon movesets.

300 hours, just hunted Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax. What a beast, what a fight. Took RCGV's leg armor and qurious augmented powder mantle onto it. Not much left to do but to hope for dragon conversion level two on my talisman...someday. But other than that I think my build is finalized.
It's going to be a long four months until we hear more about Wilds.

325 hours, anomaly research level 220. I feel as though I'm done. I might do the occasional hunt in the hope of landing a talisman god roll (dragonheart level 4, defiance level 4, slots 2-2-2), but I doubt I'll ever score a jackpot on that slot machine. I'll probably level Shaggy Mag to 241, unlock the level 4 attack boost deco and call it a day.
But during the wait for Wilds I think I will go back to GU for a spell.
