Good hunts. Got some of the 6 star quests knocked out. Peeled an Astalos mantle from a shiny, and got an Espinos mantle which was cool. Maybe now I can try that Quick Breath decoration to Switch Skill Swap out of statuses. I tried Redirection and... eh, not really feeling it. Can't swap while charging GS, and that's usually the time I need to Evade. Got the StrongArm Stance counter but that requires 2 full wirebugs which I often don't have.

I did have some quests I wanted to do, but I didn't know exactly where you were at. Nothing important though, just need something from the metal Raths for some Chaotic armor. xD

I was testing out Heavy Bowgun in the training room earlier, and I'm really feeling it. The gyro aiming is chef's kiss. And there's a guard counter? Maaaan, stop it. You know I like my counters.

I have done 50 hrs with HBG in MHGU so it's not completely foreign, but one weapon I've never used, ever, even for training, is the Bow. 13 weapons I've used to some extent and am at least proficient on a basic level. But the Bow, I simply don't know how it works, aside from coatings instead of Ammo. It has arc shots and stuff. Maybe I should try it out before committing to a Violet Mizu HBG build.

Gunners, any advice on must have skills? And perhaps, skills that aren't needed like Handicraft, Razor Sharp, etc?

...Last time I tried the Bow was in 3U...even had the Kelbi Bow, upgraded to G-Rank level and took on a low/high rank Lagiacrus and it still took me over 30 minutes or something. lol

You know the Kelbi Bow in 3U, where it had slime and that was way overpowered there. xD

Oh I'm MR82. I've fought every monster in the game except Scorned Magnamalo, Risen Kushala and Risen Teostra.

I love the Metal Raths in Sunbreak.

I got kicked from a lobby in MH3U once for not having a Kelbi Bow.

I was a Long Sword user (and could definitely hold my own). Joined and saw 3 dudes with Kelbi Bows, I accepted the quest, and they just sat there. 20 minutes, they wouldn't start the quest. Finally they kicked me. Buncha elitist bums.

Ugh, 3rd generation was weird with online, I kept running into hackers and trolls/leeches...my first fight with Alatreon on Tri was done with in under 2 minutes. -.-

Strangely enough, I had a fabulous experience with MH3U. Aside from that one rude lobby, I can't recall a single bad experience.

@JaxonH I still encountered problem people in 3U, but yeah it was a bit better. But since online wasn't required that time I spent most of my time offline. >.<

You play on Wii U and 3DS or just Wii U?

I bounced my save back and forth but largely played on Wii U. That game hooked me so hard. I'd just barely gotten into gaming as a hobby back then. Had played Metroid Prime, DKC Returns, Zelda Twilight Princess, Resident Evil Revelations and NSMBU, but that's about it. MH3U was an experience like no other. I had never felt a game grip me that hard. Never felt such exhilaration from combat before.

I've had bad experiences with all of the ranged weapons in Monster Hunter games so far, unfortunately. I always feel like my damage output is subpar, and end up running out of good ammo quickly.

@JaxonH I'll try to pop on Sunday if I have the time. It has been probably a month or so since I last played, so no promises on my performance, though.

I've heard gunners will bring materials to craft more ammo mid hunt, which would not only solve the issue of running out of ammo, but also the issue of damage output.

And perhaps just getting skilled with the weapons would help, too. That said, the damage output isn't as good as Great Sword or Switch Axe per times runs, but the difference shouldn't be that big.

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika ...I never played those games, but this isn't unfair-levels of difficulty or anything. It's just an action-rpg type game really. Grab a weapon, fight a giant monster or two with it...make new weapons/armor and fight stronger monsters, etc.
