@Snatcher
Get caught up on those Quests now, and get your weapons upgraded to final form now, so you don't have to come back to high rank Hub once Sunbreak drops to farm mats. Obviously we're probably going to get High Rank Village Quests, which are always a part of the Ultimate Editions (except World since it didn't have separate Village quests) but still. Nice to have all your weapons upgraded and ready to go for Master Rank.

Since I plan to main GS, I crafted a few of the best GS's and upgraded to final form. Just got the Crimson Glow gem I needed with TeeJay a couple hours ago to upgrade the Valstrax GS.

Yeah I don't know about that, 5th gen has been doing things different in general. Don't think we'll get any more high rank stuff. I think we're going to get a set of village Master Rank quests? That's my guess, would be a first...sorta, I dunno...World/IB's quests are weird and I'm ignoring them. lol

Well, we know there's single player only Follower Quests, so there's at least some type of additional single player only content.

Whether it's part of Village High Rank or just a smaller subset of Master Rank Follower Quests is anyone's guess.

On the one hand, every Ultimate Edition with separate Village Quests has added High Rank. On the other hand, World did break the trend and that could continue with Rise.

Yeah, like I said 5th gen in general has been breaking traditions and "rules" and such. Dunno what's happening with Follower Quests, I figured it would be an option to take them with you on any quest as long as you're offline/playing alone.

@JaxonH I think my CB is good too go, might upgrade my armor a little bit more, and mats, though I need to look at what changes are coming to the weapons, maybe this time I might try and main the switch axe, my only issue with that weapon is that I suck at dodging with it lol.

@Snatcher
Switch Axe is easy to dodge with once you learn the weapon. You have pretty good movement in axe mode. You move slower in sword mode, but evasion is still responsive. Best of all, the Invincible Gambit silkbind yanks you forward whichever direction you push, and does a 3 hit combo with super armor- perfect for going through roars or closing a gap.

Make sure to run Quick Sheath 3 and Rapid Morph 3. Those skills are non-negotiable for Switch Axe. The amount Rapid Morph 3 speeds up the transition between axe and Sword is insane. And since your best combo is an endless loop switching back and forth, you'll want to cut that animation down as fast as possible.

@JaxonH You know what, that’s probably what I was doing wrong, I didn’t have rapid morph on, I have quick sheath, but not rapid morph, huh, thanks, whenever I pick the game back up I’m doing this.

Quick Sheath +3 is not "non-negotiable" for SA. Rapid Morph is needed but not quick sheath. It's nice to have if you can slot it in I guess. But I don't use it. I like Evade Extender as a good utility skill for SA.

MisterMan

JaxonH

Quick Sheath 3 drastically decreases the animation for sheathing, which can help you get out of harm's way faster. It's a 30% reduction in animation time, from 1.60 seconds down to just 1.13 seconds. Which means not using QS3 results in a 42% longer animation.

That's about as non-negotiable as it gets, and not just for Switch Axe, but most weapons in Rise, since animation frames are one of the fundamental challenges to manage in combat, and unlike Focus or Rapid Morph, it benefits all weapons.

Evasion and Evade Distance are also crucial though, I always keep Evade Dist 1 on my sets and as much Evasion as I can afford.

Thanks to TeeJay I officially completed every single quest in Monster Hunter Rise today, including all Event Quests and Event Rampages. Everything has a check mark.

And TeeJay only has 4 remaining Event Rampage Quests, iirc. Kinda funny we're both at HR229, and are at the same spot progress wise.

Now. A month to go until Sunbreak. Think I'm gonna fire up MH World on Steam and play that until June 30th. Got to Master Rank on PS4, then switched to Steam and started my save file over. Still in High Rank, but I'd like to actually finish the game. Not sure there's enough time before Sunbreak but that's alright. Can always come back to it later if needed.

Ha, ok. If you’re gonna claim that using 3, 2 slot decos, to save .5s of sheathing animation on a weapon you barely sheath in battle is “non-negotiable”, you don’t understand what that word means. For other people looking to build a SA just check out other skills and find what works for you. This is the first time I’ve seen someone claim that Quick Sheath is an essential skill for SA. It makes no sense.

Yeah, I think the only time I have ever used Quick Sheath as like a core of a build was Greatsword in World, as that used a sort of draw attack, hit and run, style at it's most effective form - thankfully the Wirebug elevates that honestly kinda tedious playstyle. I dunno why you'd need it for a SA really. I guess if you have spare slots or something as like a filler skill.

There's a difference between saying, "I disagree and here's why" and saying, "no, you're wrong, you don't know what you're talking about".

I believe it's non-negotiable. Half a second sheathing is absolutely crucial because it's when you're most vulnerable. If you feel other skills are more important, by all means advocate for those other skills.

I wonder what the monsters would taste like? Which do you think would taste the yummiest? Thank you mommie, can I have seconds! LOL

@JaxonH Here's some skills you could slot in a 2 slot that I think are more valuable than Quick Sheath for SA:
Rapid Morph, Evade Extender, Evasion, Recover Up, Divine Blessing, Power Prolonger, Attack, Weakness Exploit, Crit Eye, Crit Boost, Partbreaker (I'd probably even choose Focus for SA over QS)

The reason being that the with the SA you're rarely sheathing your weapon. When you're in axe mode (with Evade Extender 3) rolling once or twice will get out of the way quicker and further than sheathing your weapon and then wirebugging or superman diving out of harm's way. All the other skills contribute to your overall survivability or damage with the weapon. More damage gives you more flinches, part breaks and downed monster time, also, quicker hunts = less chance of carting. I just don't see any situation where you would prioritize QS over any of those skills for SA since all those other skills would come into play much more throughout the hunt. In World, QS was a lvl 1 deco and you could make a case for it then, but in Rise it's too expensive to use outside of Long Sword. With Long Sword, most of your moves use the sheathing animation, with SA it's rarely used.

@MisterMan
Depends on your playstyle. I sheath enough that it makes a huge difference. I could never just run around with weapon drawn not sheathing. That might be a LS playstyle, but for Switch Axe that's definitely not how I play. It may not be constantly, but when you need to, those seconds matter.

But I'm not really interested in arguing the point. I base my opinion on my own personal experience of hundreds of hours clocked in Rise with the Switch Axe specifically. You feel otherwise, that's cool. Nothing more needs to be said. You have your opinion, I have mine, let's leave it at that.

Evade Extender is good. But I don't think it has to be mutually exclusive. I run Quick Sheath AND Evade Extender AND Rapid Morph AND Evasion AND other skills that cater to my playstyle. Focus is reserved for Great Sword and Long Sword. Constitution and Stamina Surge for Bow, Dual Blades and Insect Glaive. Etc etc.
