I think you are pretty spot on with your issues with World @Joeynator3000 and it is nice to hear someone else share these thoughts I've had for ages.
Going back to World, after Rise, is just a miserable experience, honestly. I think if the next Monster Hunter game doesn't have a Wirebug, or a Wirebug like mechanic, I am going to have a real hard time getting on with it. Like going back to World, having a monster walk near you and for some reason that takes away most of your health, you just wish the whole time you could Wirebug away.
And ugh, the massive environments with monsters running half way across the maps in what felt like every two minutes in World. Just so damn tedious.
I appreciate some prefer the older style of game with the survival mechanics, it being more of a hunt than just a straight fight and that you were almost always at a disadvantage and required to win by the skin of your teeth.
However, I thought this stuff sucked personally and I'm glad Rise got rid of all of it. I like just being able to get straight into the fight, I like the empowerment the Wirebug gives me. Rise is actually fun to play, even on the harder monsters. Going back to World, everything feels like an unnecessarily brutally punishing chore.
I mean, taking damage from monsters walking near you is kinda normal, lol. But yeah, I had a horrible first time experience with Banbaro in that Hoarfrost area. Getting him to limping and he limps all the way to his nesting area which was like 2 zones away or something. I finally catch up to him and wake him up with an attack, he then limps out of that area and moves like, 2 more zones away from that so more chasing....he then enters rage mode....AND THEN LIMPS ALL THE FREAKIN' WAY BACK TO THE NEST! Like, wtf? >.< lol
but yeah, the monster pin attacks is what infuriated me the most...I'm using a gunlance, I have a giant shield, I'm using guard-up, and I STILL can't block these attacks?
So yeah like I said, Rise fixes a lot of these issues, maps are smaller and more straightforward, the monsters still roar just as much, but the only time they stun you is when they roar at the start or when they enter rage. (or if it's Khezu, because Khezu, lol) Even if I do get hit by a pin, yeah I love the wirebug, though I don't think they'll be a thing in the next game. I think some of these will be a Rise/Sunbreak only thing.
That said, I do want to see some of these IB monsters return just so I can fight them and actually have fun with them. Because the Zinogres and the Rajangs would otherwise be fun fights...but getting one-shotted but Furious's pin attack even though I'm blocking with guard-up...ugh...I'm at the point where I don't even want to bother finishing the game. I fought Shara, good enough, I guess...
But yeah, Iceborne is hard, but all for the wrong reasons...at least Rise is FUN. Also, one of the maps is my all-time favorite map from Tri so it gets bonus points....also Chammy is in it. lol
Rise does have it's own issues, but they're NOWHERE near as bad, though. Mainly when multiple monsters are in the same area, they'll run away pretty quickly. Especially after the wyvern riding thing is over with, even Bazel...lol. Also Rajang was toned down way too much here, even when compared to his high rank in 4th gen. >.< (seriously, why did they make him do his taunt animation constantly? lol)
I know you just gotta make your peace with some jank in Monster Hunter, but in World I found you rarely have a clue why you die like 99% of the time though, and I think that is bad. I actually started to record my playtime so I could look back over footage and try and learn anything from a death. Half the time even in slow motion I couldn't work out what the ***** I died to. I guess a monster sneezed or something and it killed me.
Zinogre and a lot of the flying monsters or monsters with AOE abilities in World were just the ***** worst. No fun in those fights at all. Their speed or mobility just had no counter in World. You either got good or got curb stomped, but there was no in between with the astronomical difficulty spikes that game had to be able to get good, so instead it just involved teaming up with randos and hoping someone carried you. Just a frustrating chore.
It is a big part of why I mained the IG in World. The game never really came together for me, until that weapon set me free. I spent so much time grounded, locked in combos, getting my ass beat. When I could suddenly launch myself over a charging a monster and then do damage on the way down, I suddenly felt invincible. The wirebug allows me to do that with every weapon, to the point of making the IG somewhat redundant for me (especially with the weird inverted controls). I guess to some that spoils the game, but to me it actually makes the game fun in the moment to moment, in the way World never was for me.
Rise does still have a bit of weapon inequality, I know they offset it by giving them lower defence, but sometimes when I see a ranged user just sitting back pouring down massive damage and never needing to wait for windows, I wonder why I bother putting myself at risk to try and use something like the dual blades, but the wirebug really is an equaliser in a lot of scenarios, that adds viability to more weapons than ever before at end game.
That is why I will be sad if they remove the wirebug from future titles like you predict. That is unless they completely rebalance the entire game to slow things way down to give players an actual chance, which maybe they will do, given Rise is an aracedier, easier, time than World and other games like GU.
My real dream for a future MH Game is to move into a more class based system, I know we have some aspects of this already, but I would love for them to lean into it more. Give me a guy with a shield who has skills to draw agro and can tank even the meatiest of hits, give me a guy with a dootdoot whose build is entirely about dedicated healing, give me a long ranged, glass cannon, sniper and a high damage, DPS, close range melee user all battling a monster.
G-rank usually doesn't start off too tough (that'll be especially true with the armor we have right now) but it does start to ramp up in the latter half. I look forward to Gold Ian and Silver Los in an arena, a triple monster quest with Lunagaron, Garangolm and Malzeno, and Serigios + Astalos. It's gonna be brutal. I'm so ready for it.
Btw, you up for some World later today?

@TeeJay Bleh, ah well, lol. I have like, only one friend that helped me in IB. Even though I kinda stopped shortly after Shara (Furious Rajang just made me quit and move on to other games, I even went back to 3U on my 3DS, ugh...wished that game would get a Switch version, TwT)...

@Joeynator3000
Ya we only play on Switch and PC now. I got to Master Rank on PS but when Iceborne released I switched to PC, since I don't have any other games I play online on PS and didn't want to continue paying $60/yr indefinitely for it.
I do have a save file in Master Rank on PS but I don't sub to PS+ and haven't touched that save file since 2018. I have the game on Xbox as well, and do have online for that since I have Gamepass, but I'm still Low Rank in that save file.
You have a PC though. What's stopping you from just playing there

All I have left is Emergency Apex Zinogre....Diablos gave me some trouble at first but I still managed that one. I'm guessing Zinogre will be the hardest one.
