@Snatcher My advice would be to look up some of the many video guides for Charge Blade on YouTube. Just search for "Charge Blade Guide Iceborne," and I'm sure the many passionate influencers will have plenty of content to digest!

However, I'm not really sure why you're going so hard on Iceborne right after Rise has launched! Don't you want to build up gear, decorations and hunter rank with everyone else playing Rise, especially before 3.0?

@JaxonH Thanks for mentioning that, because that makes me feel better lol

And that's so true. After Rise, I definitely prefer the P3rd/GU/Rise sensibilities applied to Monster Hunter. Just like Ichinose made clear in his interviews, Rise really does retain the classic moment-to-moment feel of Monster Hunter that World simply lacks.

Hopefully the main dev team's approach feels more like 4U for the next installment.

Also, didn't the Rise dev team handle Freedom Unite? I could have sworn they handled another game other than Rise/GU/P3rd...

I find this interesting.

Hey Jay! In his recent MH Rise journal, said his faint counter is up to double digits now, and he's not even to 6 star village Quests yet. Or, he just unlocked it.

His World faint counter was far lower, and that was his first MH game. Yet he's struggling more with Rise in low rank, despite being more experienced now.

@Ulysses Well I have kinda been playing both at the moment, I will go back and forth, and if they show when 3.0 is coming then i'm going to be all over rise for a bit. I just really love MH right now.

Rise was also kicking my butt in low rank towards the end as well...I keep telling people, the monsters here put up a better fight than World. World for me was a snooze-fest when it came to difficulty/challenge.

I am currently on an Expedition Tour with Gunlance - and I think I like Gunlance in Rise, but I also think Gunlance feels like a bit of a 'step backwards' in Rise. Last time I mained GL was 3U, but I also used it more than a bit in FU. I can say that the GL in Rise feels like a cross between the two, but feels more like it did in FU than 3U.

Specifically, one of the bread-and-butter combos in 3U was stab > stab > overhead smash > burst fire. That combo, if it's still possible in Rise at all, is not executed in at all the same manner as in 3U; in fact, I'm going to have to pull up the 'Weapon Controls' menu to see whether burst fire is possible at all in this game.

Another thing I used to do in 3U that afaict is no longer possible in Rise is 'infinite shelling'. That is, in 3U, if you were just shelling you could reload a single shot immediately after you fired that shot; it was much faster than reloading your entire clip, and it let you keep up a steady stream of shelling (at least until you needed to guard or such). The shelling controls in Rise, especially, strike me as much more similar to those in FU than those in 3U.

To be clear, none of this is intended as a criticism per se. I used GL plenty in FU, so this doesn't feel totally out of the ordinary to me. That said, it doesn't feel like I expected it to at all, and in a very literal sense it does feel like they took a step backwards in terms of the capabilities of GL.

(@Joeynator3000 may feel free to tell me I'm doing everything completely wrong. )

I probably have one of the only Nintendo accounts in the world to be able to redownload both the software called 'Sega Mega Drive Classics' and the software called "Sega Ages: Lightening Force."

I'm not an advanced user for the gunlance, even though I'm good with it. That said, yeah the controls have changed quite a bit over the generations, in Rise the changes come from World. I think the thrust + thrust + overhead smash was removed since now there are tons of ways to do the overhead smash now. Infinite shelling, I'm not sure...if it's still there then yeah it was changed as well.

Fully agree about Rise monsters vs World's.

At least in high rank, the aggression level of Rise's monsters feels on par with iceborne. Rathalos alone is night and day. Magnamalo is way harder to me than Nergigante. Of course, Magnamalo is still my kryptonite. Only he and Nargacuga have made me triple cart (Nargacuga forced me to come to grips with HBG's new dodge roll). Nergigante never gave me trouble, and this was as pre-iceborne HH and post-iceborne SnS mains.

With personal experience different for everyone, there are exceptions; Diablos seems a bit easier than he did in World, and Anjanath especially feels like a pushover in Rise.

For Anjanath, I believe he took advantage of World's generally cramped areas. He's a lot easier to dodge around in Rise's more open environments.

For Diablos, it seems like he overuses the stone throw attack, which has a very long wind down animation. His burrow attacks also feel slower. And, it feels like tremor isn't an issue as opposed to World.

Kushala is definitely more threatening than he ever was in World. His double dragon stomp combined with his sniping wind breath has made people fail quests while I'm out with randoms.

Edit: Great hunts with you today, @TeeJay and @Fatty_Whale42! And also Artemis, who we've hunted with a few times now, so perhaps I'll have to get around to adding them soon. We took on some tough monsters today and made it look simple ^_^ Love our group synergy!

Ya I agree, rise monster's are no pushover's, If this is it now H rank will be hell LOL. I feel like Magmalalo was only hard bc of his stupid Hit boxes, I would get hit and I would be no were near the guy, so ya he make's nerg look easy.

Oddly enough, Diablos for me was super easy in World. Anjanath, he was just infuriatingly annoying in World. Whenever his throat was heated up, he would poof out flames after every attack...even while guarding with the gunlance, this would still hit me. I'm just glad they removed this in Rise...

Similar situation with Rathalos, I use the Gunlance so when I try to block his attacks, he still knocks me down, picks me, and tosses me around. Of course with how World works, my character will just lay there for a few seconds waving at Rathalos before finally deciding to get up to run...if he hasn't already combo'ed me at that point. >_>

Yeah great hunts @Ulysses!

We took on Apex Mitzu, which was a first for me. Boy it hits hard but that was a fun fight.

As for Rise monsters vs World's, I continue to be baffled as to how you guys had no issue with World's BS (for example Diablos, what? Diablos can legit go to hell) but have issues with Rise's versions of them. I've had the complete opposite experience in every aspect. Even with all this new content in 2.0 I've yet to come across anything I'd consider truly difficult.

But World was a struggle probably starting in the High Rank end game with the stupid Kirin quest you needed to do to unlock HR. Even with the best armor available at that point completely maxed out, with elemental res as high as I could gem in and eat for, I was still getting two shotted. I eventually had to go unlock the thunder mantle and only then did the damage become somewhat reasonable, but only for as long as the mantle was available of course.

And then time and again World kept throwing out nonsense that just did way too much damage or had one hit kills like behemoth or safi, or dps checks like Alatreon.

Also side note as a World bow main, arrows bouncing on half the post game monsters entire bodies except the head was not ok.

@TeeJay Looking back in my opinion, (other than Kirin for everything you mentioned) most of the monsters that were hard were in fact just frustrating to fight in World's environments, especially with cramped areas and lots of little jumping slopes that would stop your dodge short.

I still love Ancient Forest for its aesthetic and labyrinthian motif, but it really needed open areas for the bigger monsters. Anjanath is a good example. Are its attack patterns really that much easier in Rise? Or was it actually that managing the environment was more frustrating than the monster? Other than Anjanath's fire breathing in rage mode in World, which was frustrating, is the difference in attack patterns truly measurable?

I would actually like a video detailing attack differences with Rise vs World monsters, because I really do feel like the environment was a majority of the difficulty in World. It played a significant role in the experience, as the developers outlined in interviews.

@Ulysses I noticed that to, when I was fighting bazel this morning, I was like "Man is it me or is fighting bazel feel less like a tight room" and that was a issue I think world has, not giving you the space you need when your fighting a big ass monster like rajing, is just painful, or fighting in a tight space with narg (Total hell btw), So i'm glade rise fixed this issue as monster's like to fight you and very open spaces.

If anyone doesn't have the Feather of Mastery yet (gotten by beating each arena quest with each weapon), I highly recommend you do so as soon as possible (it not only allows +1 carve for each monster, but also an extra carve for tails as well — yes, that includes Ibushi and Narwa).

@Ryu_Niiyama Nope, he gives them all to you eventually.

Holy crap. And you just need to beat them, not with any certain rank? I need to get on that then!

(Actually, though, given that everyone and their mother captures literally everything they can, I probably don't need to rush it. I'm still a long way from the final bosses, and realistically not a single gd thing I fight until then is going to escape capture unless I solo it. If there's one thing that holds true of randos online, it's that they capture everything and they don't give a single crap if you ask them not to because they're probably never gonna see you again after that one hunt.)

@Joeynator3000 Yeah, it's all of them (most were my first time using that particular weapon in Rise too) xD

@Northwind My number of B's says rank doesn't matter. xD

And I care more about the extra tail carve (rare mats are usually 3x more likely in the tail than the monster — so that now becomes 6% chance for gems, and orbs) since I can just hop on an expedition, cut a tail, carve (and carve again), then leave. xD
