@Danondorf They are just standard hunts. As soon as the blue icon appears, someone will immediately lay down traps and capture it.
I don't mind the capture mechanic but when you're hitting 20+ hunts in a row with no kills, it starts to become an annoyance 😂

Okay so I'm hitting a bit of a bugbear with the Online Multiplayer. I'm on the 6* Hub quests and I've been using the quest board.
Ever since reaching this rank, 100% of my battles have been captures and not a single kill and carve.
Has anybody else been having a similar experience? With the earlier ranks it was definitely much more mixed between the two but I'm now feeling like I'll never get to actually hunt monsters at this rank 😭😂

You describe the exact reason I generally detest multiplayer. Some people seem to be so worried about "efficiency" and completing objectives as quickly as possible instead of taking the time to simply play. In Diablo III, I would always seem to end up a mile behind the group because while they're skipping areas and rushing ahead to the next elite pack, I'm taking time to fight common enemies and break open containers.

It's an issue many have noted, to the extent Gaijin Hunter, the most prominent community advocate who's been making tutorials and MH videos for years, made a video telling people to default to kill unless the host requests cap.

Problem is in World, everyone capped because there was no advantage to killing. And while technically you can get every mat via capture as long as you achieve the break rewards, it's not fulfilling to do every time, and some parts have way better drop rates as carves.

In any case, we're not gonna convince these Worldies to respect the wishes of the host. They do what they want. Best to make a custom sticker that says "Please Kill" and start your own lobby. Share it every hunt. If someone blatently disregards, boot em and block em. Just bear in mind the message won't automatically translate so if you're playing with out of country ppl, they may have just not understood.

@JaxonH Ironic thing is, I started with World effectively, but I never knew capturing monsters was a thing you could do. I always just ended up killing the monsters.

Ok I did it, before I fought it I looked up a video so I can have some idea when to doge, after that so I don't get clapped before learning his attacks I used demon drug and armor skin (And man did I need it) He almost got me at the first part at the fight but after a little bit I was able to get it.
He is not to bad if you know how to attack, First you attack the face and arms when he is back,
when he starts up he 2nd phase you can still hit him in the arm and face,

The cool part about rajing is that he loves to taunt after some of his moves, Like when he jumps in the air and come rolling down don't fall for it, He tricks you by stopping, instead you should wait for his follow up attack You will have time to get a hit in.

After that his hand turn red (And I have known this before the video) you should only be trying to attack his tail, if you attack it and deal enough damage he will revert back and you can K.O him.If you learn all that I think the fight is easy enough, But it was supper fun.

@TeeJay
I’m getting there. I have one page left of HR5 quests, and then it’s just whatever’s left in HR6 and HR7.

@VoidofLight
No kidding? Ya, capturing is a big part of MH, though they don’t have nearly enough cap quests IMO. I suppose it’s best left as an option, but ya, it can make quests faster and changes drop rates, which is great if farming plates or gems. Not quite as good as killing if you need other mats, though.

The Honest Trailer is out and it's hilarious

Alright, Mr. Fuggles... I usually dislike this sort of video/mocking critique, but it did make me laugh a fair bit. ... Don't do it again.

I need to ask you - is there a (fairly) current multiplayer game that you can more fully support? I really haven't indulged online multiplayer, er... at all. (I used to play Starcraft 1 with friends. In the last century. Does that count?) I respect what JaxonH is trying to say, mind you; I'm just curious to ask you, since you have a fleshed-out idea of what you don't like about this title. (Also, I had forgotten that the game isn't really finished yet, but... that's the plague of our time...)

I also wonder if there is anything you two could actually agree on that is current... but I don't want to harbour unrealistic expectations Thanks for reading!

...In past games I never really cared, but...in rise, for some reason critical hits just sound awesome. lol

I noticed them visually in past games but they never sounded too different to me, but here...I love how they sound. xD

I'm really not the person to ask. I dislike most multi-player games. Monster Hunter (co-op) and Splatoon (competitive) are two of the rare exceptions- games that are just so good and so fun, even I, as someone who dislikes playing online, can't resist.

If its not one of those two, I'm usually not interested. Although I did play some Borderlands 2 when it released on Switch. That was an old favorite of mine back on Vita.

...Just finished the final boss, and...

...I'm wondering if the next map for the expansion could be a mix of Coral Highlands and the Vale. It still would obviously be a new map, but like, a cross between those two from World.

Anyways no idea if I'll keep playing, I may just wait until Chameleos shows up and give the game a break. But yeah, just wanted to point that out.

I think we’ll get one new map and one 3rd Gen remake like Deserted Isle (which would fit the theme of shallow water, which they’ve used is all the maps, very nicely).

I figured it would be the Misty Peaks. I'm also thinking we could get a new version of the Everwood, or Guidelands or whatever the Iceborne one is called. lol

I always found it weird how Water combat was in 3, but never came back afterwards. It felt kind of clunky when I played 3 Ultimate, but it seemed kind of cool to be able to fight monsters under the water.

I never liked it...especially when dealing with the bigger monsters like Ceadeus or Miralis in 3U. Also the Flooded Forest, I liked that map but the underwater areas...too much crap under there. lol

I miss Gobul, though...I hope he returns, he is basically the flagship of the Flooded Forest anyways.

So... in hindsight I can say I'm not a fan of the water combat. It was too slow and clunky. However. At the time I was playing MH3U, I didn't mind at all. It's kinda like Metroid Prime 2- alot of people complain about the backtracking and health depleting in Dark Aether. But at the time I was so heavily invested in the game I loved every single aspect, including that. And I loved the underwater combat as much as land back when I was playing MH3U.

But now, I can safely say I'm glad it didn't return. With that said, I think if they could tweak it a bit to provide more mobility, and if it had wirebugs to use underwater also, I think it could be fantastic.

As for Misty Peaks, that's a possibility. At first I thought Shrine Ruins too similar with mountainous peaks, but they're actually different enough it would be a viable option. I doubt we'll see any World maps though. They're not designed around the wirebug and palamutes with verticality and less dense, more open areas in mind. For that reason I am confident expansion maps will either be new, or reimagined versions of older maps.

Coral Highlands and the Vale itself wouldn't return, but a new map that's based on the two is what I meant.

and @JaxonH

I remember detesting the underwater fights at the time of playing Tri & 3U, but looking back at them I really miss them! Royal Ludroth is so much more threatening underwater, and I'm sure Mitzu and Almu would be much more formidable in their native elements.

Plus...the challenge of fighting an enraged Lagi [removed] lightning beams and charges in the cramped stream of Flooded Forest- I'd love to relive that gauntlet in HD.

Welp, played all day again. I essentially trained myself in the art of the HBG, build a new suit of suitable high-rank armor, and built my way up to a good high-rank HBG. All in service of more easily farming the final boss, because I'm tired of swiping at something that just hovers around in the air.

I'm going for a high-critical build with Piercing rounds.
