@Mountain_Man You've probably noticed now that you have the full game, but the red arrow is optional and it's off by default. The monster icon still appears on the map though. Tbf, I have the arrow on but I tend to not even look at it, I just look at the map. It still doesn't have the "find the monster" search that way. I like not having to do that, but some hate it.
Yes, I did notice the monster icons on the map. I have somewhat mixed feelings about it. In Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, while you do have to find the monster, it's really not that much of a challenge since the maps are made up of less than a dozen, small connected zones. Just visit each zone, and you're guaranteed to find the monster eventually. With one, large open map, it could be a bit more of a slog if not designed carefully. I'm not sure that simply putting an icon on the map was the best solution, but I can understand why the developers did it. I suppose the map could have highlighted certain areas where the monster might be forcing you to actually hunt a little instead of allowing you to beeline directly towards it.
@JaxonH you dont seem to understand difference between tedium and actual choice.
Wirefall is broken and almost every review online points to it as a problem.
If it was aimed at just reducing the tedium they would simply cut it out with an automatic faster recovery rather than consuming one of your wirebugs.
You could lie down in previous entries, but in certain cases it was a meaningful choice as to when to get up and monsters could throw you off about it. Right now it's a nobrainer.
If "reducing the recovery by 10 seconds" was really the aim there, then they would reduce the overall timer on the missions from 50 min to 25 min. And even then it would be ridiculous as all hunts take about 10 right now.
Who is talking about Low Rank? I'm destroying the game in high rank having 10 armor.
@pablo1517 Yeah, the wirebug in general is really fun but wirefall feels way too strong. Combined with being able to heal while moving, in almost any situation you can just quickly zip away to safely and heal up with no sense of danger at all. I liked it more when you needed to dodge carefully and wait for the right moment to heal up.
I'm sorry, but everything you said is wrong. Not "every review" claimed wirefall was a problem, and... it's not a problem.
If you're destroying the game then you're just too good. Upper echelon of skill. Can't please everyone. I’m a long time vet and it’s no different than World. So ya. After my recent experience getting rocked by low rank monsters, and the wirefall getting me destroyed as much as it gets me to safety, especially when just laying there and getting up when it’s safe is a way better strategy for “safety”, I can conclude wirefall just gets you back in the action faster. Sometimes it gets you out of danger (which you could’ve avoided by just staying on the ground), sometimes it gets you rekt. It’s no different than the risk of laying on the ground.
@TimGibsonPBS It could have been pretty fun to use the wirebug and the maps' verticality to try to spot where the monsters are from a good vantage point. A bit of a missed opportunity there.
@Magician
Not sure I agree, not saying I disagree either, that’s something I would have to ponder on long and hard. I don’t really feel it needs to change because it hasn’t really had a significant impact one way or the other, and at a cost of 2 I don’t think I’d ever use it, given the fact it’s more of a time saver than anything else. But I can at least respect that opinion if someone feels that way.
@BenAV
Keep in mind, in the old games you could run into the next loading area and heal in safety. Which was a very common tactic for healing and sharpening. The idea that wirefall gets you out of danger implies you’re actually in danger when lying on the ground. You’re not actually in danger when you lie on the ground because you have full invincibility. Granted, there are times where you can lay there for 10 seconds and still not find a good opening to get up without getting hit. That definitely happens sometimes. But it’s also the case that wirefalling “out of danger” actually wirefalls you “into danger”. And I would actually argue that I have gotten hit more as a result of the wirefall rather than less. Almost always, it’s situations where, had I just patiently laid on the ground and timed my get up, I’d have been fine. It’s still totally worth it because of the filler it cuts out laying on the ground which is just not fun to do. And it feels amazing to spring right back onto your feet like a ninja, which is very fitting given the setting of the game. It’s the single best mechanic added to the series I can recall, and in my experience it hasn’t modified difficulty to any significant degree, only tedium.
That said, I like your idea of spotting the monsters. The binoculars aren’t in this game but that could’ve been a really cool use for them. Then again, there’s only a select number of vantage points where you could actually see the whole map and a lot of times monsters are underground so I’m not sure how well it would work in practice. But I still think having the binoculars and would’ve been cool, especially for taking pictures with.

The fact is, any game that is so challenging right out of the gate that only the most skilled gamers will be able to play it will alienate the majority of potential customers, and no developer wants to do that. I suppose Capcom could have implemented difficulty levels when starting a new game allowing for a more experienced player to be challenged by even the early quests, but that would have added to the development costs by requiring additional resources for testing and tuning.
They look so good. Like, a LOT better than I was expecting from the pictures. Magnamalo is gorgeous and one of my absolute favorite amiibos now. The palico is also incredible. Still waiting on the Palamute but ya, really high quality stuff.

@Joeynator3000
He roars way less in Rise. In past games he’d just spam 3 roars in a row. And he’d spam his electricity move 3-5 times in a row in older games.
He didn’t do that a single time when I fought him. He’d roar once. Or electrify once.
And Volvidon is amazing. That’s one of my favorite monsters.
Anajanath was always incredible. Sounds like you just don’t like any of these monsters- in fact I’m kind of surprised you like the game at all!
@TeeJay
No kidding. The system and pro controller look so slick. I ordered an extra in case one came with a dead pixel or a dim screen or damaged box. But I’m returning the other one because I don’t need it, along with an extra collector edition I don’t need. And I have the spare digital deluxe game code from the system I am keeping. Have to sell that on eBay.
I was going to use the system but honestly, it’s a bit of a pain putting the glass screen protectors on perfectly because I’m such a perfectionist. If I see even one micro hair underneath I’d try to fix it or do it over with a new one. And I’ve had to do that on 4 different Switches now, and I just don’t have the energy to do it again. Not to mention, if a new Switch revision is releasing within the next 12 months, I’m just going to migrate to that anyways. So I figured the system is basically just for display, like the 3DS MH systems.
I’m still doing village quests, but once I’m done in a week or two, I’m gonna start on the hub quests. Hopefully you and everyone else won’t have burned through them by that point.

The other day Khezu literally roared at me 3 times in under a minute...in Rise. lol
Anjanath was just a more boring version of Glavenus to me...and he was obnoxious in World. Volvidon was always a monster that just irritated me, regardless of the game.
Rampage has a number of new mechanics and there are some key things people need to know, such as dropping everything and taking out monsters with a blue icon the moment they appear.

@JaxonH Even if I did everything in the game by the time we got a chance to hunt, I would still be happy to hunt with you, no worries. I just love the hunt.
And I haven’t even fought Magdamalo in Low Rank yet, or touched the Hub besides 2 or 3 quests in 1-star with my brother.
That said, Magnamalo is my next quest. I’ve done every quest in the game up to this point. They’re all good. There’s hardly any gathering quests or small monster slaying quests, so the few that do show up feel like a nice change of pace. Plus, they’re great to get materials that you’re going to need anyways, and it’s an opportunity to explore the map and gather.
I imagine this will end up being about 100 hrs for village, 100 hrs for hub, another 100 hours for Rampage, Arena and endgame, and then beyond that it’ll just be farming different sets, different weapons, etc, and playing for fun. At least until the Ultimate Edition drops. That’s when the true end game begins. And the true end game never ends.
.......Welp, let's get this over with... selects the Apex Arzuros urgent

I'm gonna die...lol
EDIT: ...only fainted once, he's worse than Redhelm, somehow his jump attack kept hitting me. Seems like it has more range than Redhelm's...then there's that stupid boulder attack that he manages to hit me with most of the time.
Anyways geez, that was tough, no idea how I managed that. xD
