I never used that, but yeah framearate and resolution changes can be very noticeable sometimes, as far as I know there was no way to change these settings on the PS4. (I don't know if the Pro could do this) But yeah I never bothered looking at numbers.

Keep it PG-13-ish.
Dynamic res bothers me way less than unlocked Framerate. Obviously neither is ideal, but I can live with a dynamic resolution (provided it’s not dropping unreasonably low, which does happen in some games such as Xenoblade 2 handheld and Panic Button FPS). Generally speaking, MH World ran beautifully for me. Yes it had some frame drops on occasions into the mid and even low 20s, but it wasn’t a regular occurrence. It was the exception rather than the rule and only ever for a moment or two, not sustained.
I love graphics, visuals, performance, etc. Who doesn’t. Even with Rise, we’re all like wow, look how good this looks! Graphics matter. And on a fundamental level everyone knows this. The problem is when some people put these aspects on such a high pedestal, they become one’s desire more than the game itself. I can appreciate not wanting to play an old, ugly PS2 game. I get it. Once the gulf becomes that wide it really does start impacting your enjoyment. But even then, graphics are only part of the reason why- the other being dated gameplay mechanics and dated animations. If a PS2 game played exactly like MH Rise mechanically and had the same fluid animations, for example, I could easily get over the graphics.
But when a game is among the most visually impressive on a system which already averages better looking games than 7th gen consoles, you’re talking about a half generation gap (maybe 3 quarters?) in visuals between it and PS4/X1 games. That’s not enough to detract. Even if you compare it with current gen (which hardly anyone owns yet and is the smallest leap we’ve seen between generations to date), it’s still only a 1.5 generation gap between visually. And as a handheld game no less. With modernized gameplay and animations matching or even exceeding the 8th gen level of World. That’s not enough to detract.

Fully charged the console and completed a single 1* hunt online in less than 20 mins and the charge dropped by 18% - this means I will get about 5 hunts in per full charge (less when the difficulty ramps up and hunts take longer) and takes less time to deplete the battery than to charge it.
Is anyone else finding this or am I going to have to return my Lite with a faulty battery?

Outer Worlds is probably the king of abusing dynamic resolution. Sometimes it's so bad that the image resembles an oil painting. But I still love the game. Even bad graphics can't get in the way of a good game.

Are you noticing decreased battery life in general, or is it only when playing Monster Hunter Rise? Because if it's latter, I suspect it's probably because MHR is pushing the Switch hardware to its limit which will naturally use more energy.
Took me a bit to realize that the Argosy is this game's version of the farm, haha. I think repurposing the Argosy instead of naming it something brand new threw me off a bit.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
@Mountain_Man I haven't used it for a while tbh but didn't notice any issues previously - I could play games for most of a shift before needing to charge.
I'm enjoying the game but I just wish it was on a real console to avoid

@JaxonH Interesting. About the mcable, that is. Rise seems to be lacking AA, so I'm not surprised it's improving the image quality of the game.
It'd be cool if Capcom enabled cross-save functionality between Rise on PC and Switch. Although I still doubt I'd use it, because my perception of the game's performance is fine as long as I'm not splitting my time with a smoother, prettier version. Ignorance is bliss, and all that.
@Mountain_Man I used to have that exact issue when I enabled a FPS counter on Steam. I became rather fixated on the numbers, which is more immersion-breaking than any sharp framerate drop ever was. I'll still use it when I'm testing out settings, but once that's settled, it's bye-bye Mr. Framecounter.
And yeah, people who uniformly refer to sub-1080p content as "blurry" generally can't be reasoned with. There's hyperbole, and then there's just people out for a fight. Although, interestingly enough, call their bluffs by pointing out PS4 games they love that are sub-1080p, and suddenly that attitude is nowhere to be found.

Switch is a real console. What do you mean to say, is you wish it was on a more powerful console. Which you’ve already mentioned several times before. No need to keep repeating it.
Also, battery life is no different than any other game. I’ve been playing handheld and nothing seems different than every other game I play. I’m running tests now and getting some actual hard data to show it.
Thus far, only 8% depletion in 25 minutes, which at this rate will = 5 hours on the v2 Switch. And that’s at max brightness, full sound and Wifi. I’ll continue playing until it’s fully depleted, but I don’t see that estimate being far off. Which means the battery life is actually better than average.

I’m so used to seeing AAA games on the Switch looking like crap (a la Mortal Kombat), it’s refreshing to see how good Rise looks. It’s immediately noticeable. Everything is so smooth and fluid too.
I have my copy, but I've yet to actually play it. I'll probably get to it later tonight, but I part of me wants to wait until I at least finish the game I'm playing now before I move on.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@JaxonH the switch isn't a real console, it's a handheld that can link up to the TV - more so in my case as I have a Lite so it's fully handheld.
I get you love the series but rise is definitely not without its flaws - matchmaking is a joke and overly cumbersome as is the lack of voice chat in a co-op game.
The graphics although pretty, have terrible draw distance and anything in the background twitches around like an epileptic at a rave. Im sure it drops to around 10fps for things not directly in front of the player and its jarring - Especially when your looking for boosts etc.
In my opinion the downgrades are just not worth having it handheld and is a backwards step for the series after world.
@Mr-Fuggles777 The match making is probably because you're playing with randoms online. Most of the time, these games are a bit better if you play them with friends. Another thing is that this game's still more of a spin-off type game like Generations, so ignoring the main games and looking more towards the portable entries, this one's pretty nice looking. The stuttering was something I noticed in gameplay trailers, but it never really bothered me that much.

So I'm shuffling my weapon variety again. Cb and sa feel overcomplicated, or maybe it's that straight forward weapons finally fell satisfying. Taking gs seriously for the first time. Dual blades might become a favorite! I'm actually trying to get into ig which I was never able to really deal with before. One super slow and 2 really fast weapons. And I really want to dig into bow. Maybe hbg. I'm play all the others too... But going ranged, and two super fast weapons really changes the feel. And the co
Behemoth I could never figure out. Gl will always be home...
Anyone know if theirs a point doing the village AND Hall quests? Or the hall is really for multi and can be ignored solo?
@Ralizah Strange, I also play on a monitor. Currently, now a 27" 4k display. And it actually looks great on there. Maybe it just has a great scaler, it's an LG, but everything that's anti aliased looks better on it than a native 1080 monitor due to the smaller pixel size. It looks less pixelated up close than a native 1080 display without getting soft like some 4k scalers. If switch pro upscaled internally I doubt it will look better than what this display already does. Regardless other then zfighting on some shaders (hinoas neck and arms looked like they were swarming with bugs in one of the early cutscenes from that.) It really impressed me on the big screen docked for only being a switch game. It really does look closer to launch x1... The 900p era. It doesn't look bad handheld at all, it just doesn't particularly impress me there, it looks like what I expect in a switch game normally. Though mostly will be playing handheld anyway.
Interesting about the lite, I never bought one but that's interesting. Makes me want one almost. Alright personally regular switch isn't a big enough screen for my tastes already. Roll on, pro! MH UI is already too tiny on the switch screen. Making out the blocky icons on the radial and action bars while frantically fighting isn't ideal...I can't imagine that on the lite.
Re bravely, I'm have to check that out. I think I hated the series so much I never noticed the good parts of it other than Edea & Ring bell. .
Re ttyd: pretty much that, yeah. The game just defined the franchise for an audience that any attempt to recreate or enhance it will be met with scorn. To from now on, mh needs a Japanese setting in japan. Though it really always should have.
@jaxonh my mcable died like a week out of warranty. After the bizarre and time consuming troubleshooting of it taking my whole setup down, I don't think I'll be buying their products again...
To answer my own question that you tried to answer weeks ago, btw, the demo was trash as always.... Easily the best game on the series. And world always felt so....dry? The quirkiness is half the fun. Without lazy cat doctors, it's just not nh.
@VoidofLight I have to play with randoms as no one I know plays and I'm online at weird times because of work so find it difficult setting up consistent hunting parties.
I never had these issues with World - maybe I was just lucky with that game if disconnects are common in the series but it's infuriating and makes things more cumbersome than it needs to be.
@Mr-Fuggles777
You can view it as a handheld that hooks up to your tv. You could equally view it as a console that just happens to have a screen on it. Your personal view of it doesn’t make it an objective truth.
It’s a different console, but it’s no less real. A console is a dedicated gaming device that plays video games, and that’s precisely what it does, so it’s just as “real” as any other console. The word you’re looking for is different. It is a different type of console. That is absolutely true. It is also a less powerful console as a result. That is also true. But it is 100% real. Saying it’s “not real” is the type of thing an insecure person (usually fanboys) says to try to take a low-key jab and delegitimize a console as being lesser than..
I’m not sure why you’re talking about “flaws”. I said nothing about flaws or not having flaws. That’s a completely different topic than anything I mentioned. But I can tell you this- the matchmaking is muah! Superb! And 100% the golden standard for any game I’ve played in the last decade, even better than the online in World, Thanks to the separation of hub quests, retaining the ability to join mid quest, the ability to “like” other hunters and pair back up with them, and voiced shoutouts which eliminates the need to read a message on the screen.
I judge by my own experiences and the experiences of the majority rather than one person on a forum, and virtually everybody has been having a near perfect experience so, going I’m going to have to assume that your analysis of this particular subject is in error, just like your battery life analysis was in error. While it’s true the game is missing voice chat, and that kinda sucks, it’s really not an issue because the vast majority of people don’t voice chat and definitely don’t want to hear other people, especially kids, talking when they join a random match. The fact I can voice chat wirelessly via Discord using my Arctis 9 wireless headset means I can have the best of both worlds, and avoid hearing randoms while still being able to voice chat with whoever I want without any cables or cords involved. Technology has progressed to a point you no longer need integrated voice chat to use voice chat.
As of tonight I can confidently claim Monster Hunter Rise is the best video game I’ve ever played in my life , and the teeny, tiny, minuscule downgrades are more than worth having handheld, tabletop and tv play- multiple times over in fact, and it’s such a massive leap forward for the series I don’t even think I can go back to playing World after this. Any future games that don’t use the wirebug, Palamutes, and wyvern riding are going to feel like a major misstep.
@VoidofLight, I don't think a lot of the people on here would cope with my sense of humour.
I can be quite a difficult guy for people to get on with unfortunately, I don't have a filter and people have been know to get offended or upset - one of the joys of living with ASD and adult ADHD I suppose.
You don't have many real friends, but the ones you do have are just as quirky as you and we have fun
