Was going to buy this game until I saw the IGN video that has Miles. Not interested in paying $70 and have an annoying Reddit character that nags you on how to play the game properly.
@ZeldaFan83 While I'm personally not interested anyway, I have two friends who were looking forward to the game drop it because of this as well. It might seem like nitpicking to many, but to some of us this type of character absolutely completely destroys an experience. Characters that over-explain before you even have a chance to observe with your own eyes and delivers atmosphere-destroying bad jokes constantly is going to alienate a lot of Metroid fans.

Finally someone who gets it. That's always annoying in general, but doubly so in Metroid, in Metroid it absolutely breaks its identity. The player feeling alone on an alien planet surrounded by hostile life is a key part of what makes Metroid, Metroid.
@NintendoByNature
I love him! My favorite new character in the series besides Raven Beak.
But even if I despised him, I'd be a fool to write off an entire game just because it has a few NPCs with dialog for 5% of the game.
I'm just wondering why ppl who claim they're not interested continue to talk about it? Move along then. Nobody cares if you're not gonna play a game. Saying it once is one thing, but patrolling the internet day after day declaring to the world "you're not interested"? Gimme a break.
We'll be over here with a grin from ear to ear, not really concerned with the ones who make it their mission to evangelize the world and inform them of what they're not playing.
Don't think anyone's gonna be like, "Oh no! You're not playing the game? Please stop and reconsider! You have to!" lol Nobody gaf
"Didn't you hear me the last 47 times? I SAID I'M NOT BUYING IT!" 😉
@kkslider5552000 I drop games that are that annoying and play something else. I have a job where I have to deal with annoying things and people but I get paid for it. I’m not suffering that in my entertainment.
@JaxonH And now we even have people with no interest in the game themselves arguing for their bummed out friends and Metroid fans in general (wich they themselves are obviously not) in their stead. All for a game that is not even out yet. You couldn't even make that stuff up.
@jfp I am obviously not a Metroid fan? I was not aware there were credentials I were missing out on. Also, why does it annoy you so much that people discuss the topic in an open forum thread like this? The topic isn't "only say positive things about Metroid 4", is it?

I think its because a lot of people have a cargo cult concept for how their decisions impact the market. They think that them being unsatisfied and choosing not to buy something, is "supposed" to result in people being outraged and refusing to buy the game out of solidarity, thus "forcing" the company to make changes so that the original person "can" buy it. The idea that other people might not care about their individual decision to buy or not buy something is alien; as is the idea that the company might also not care, because there are plenty of other people who are buying it and they don't need 100% of everyone to want it.
Now, don't mistake me, if you believe some part of a game ( or all of it! ) is bad, speak up! Explain your position, make arguments for why its the case. Just. . .you have to actually make those arguments. . . and accept that its your burden to make them convincing. Which, a good way to not be convincing is to operate anywhere in the territory of "Everyone who disagrees with me is clearly an idiot or a shill, because I am self-evidently correct". That attitude is a good way to get everyone to disagree with you even when you do have facts and logic on your side.
( Another key component: proportionality. Make sure the intensity of your complaint matches the scope of the actual issue. People generally stop paying attention to histrionics. )
@JaxonH hahaha no doubt. Everyone seems to forget "Hey, listen!" In one of the best video games of all time. I get this npc may be a little different since hes telling you some resolutions to puzzles, but im buying it no matter what he says.
It's clear a reasonable percentage of people really hate this NPC and I believe there are later NPCs as well going by comments made about IGN who gave more details. So it feels like this could be a love/hate game for many and ultimately may lead to early discounting and a healthy amount of secondhand cartridges. I'm looking to buy on Switch 1 so I'm going to wait a month or two to see how prices fare. Many prices crash after Christmas anyway with excess stock etc so I feel playing the waiting game could be the right choice for me. Surely its going to have an effect on review scores which again will drive down prices if the reviews are less than stellar for a Metroid Prime game.
@kkslider5552000 Annoying does not mean difficult or challenging. But yes, I don’t fully play through every game because sadly a lot of game design is purely annoying — particularly in modern games. Many outstay their welcome by adding annoying timesinks just to pad out playtime, for example. Not all timesinks are annoying, mind, but many are. And if the annoying part is the storytelling or characters I drop it and move on, usually taking a break from games to pursue hobbies.
edit
Wow! It seems Metroid Prime 4 is similar to Dread in that, it's a game/concept Tanabe has been wanting to explore going all the way back to Metroid Prime 2!
I will be using the Pro Controller, but... I wonder if anyone will be using this for Prime 4? It does have gyro and a 2nd analog. Would work pretty well, actually.

They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
It's still funny that both of my most anticipated games that were announced at E3 2017 and disappeared for years and years have Beyond in the title.
Speaking of which, Beyond Good and Evil 2 did in fact get an update last year like Prime 4 finally did when it was re-revealed. It's just that it was in the Beyond Good and Evil 20th anniversary, which actually has new Beyond Good and Evil 2 lore in it. Which was somehow both a good remaster and an embarrassing jank remaster that feels like a reminder that Ubisoft is probably a dying company.
Do I dare give myself hope that with the Game Awards, mere days after Prime 4's release that we shall see that game there? Probably not. Though now that I think about it, it also got backlash for going open world (except it actually was doing that in reality) and being annoyed at the voice acting...bizarre coincidences...
It's like $10 on Amazon. Toss it on your lap or wherever. And I now keep my System mouse sensitivity at medium, and in Tomb Raider I lowered camera and aim down from 5 to 1 sensitivity.
Beyond that, I use the mouse strap attachment with string cut off for right joycon, and use a loose grip where my thumb rests over 4 face buttons to easily jump. And in Tomb Raider, since Right Stick click is zoom in, which is hard to press in mouse mode while holding ZR to aim (and R is shoot), I used the Quick Access Menu button swapping to put R3 on L3, and L3 on R3. That way I can easily zoom in by clicking the left analog instead (it claims you'll need to use a grip when swapping buttons between L and R joycon but that's not true, it works even when split apart).
If a game ONLY requires shooting for the most part, then my full mouse accessory is better. But if you need to use face buttons, mouse attachment is best because a loose grip easily lets you press face buttons. The full mouse accessory I got from Amazon as well
