@Bolt_Strike That would make more sense, but as far as I can recall, the X can access memories, abilities and DNA of the infected host, but ultimately in terms of higher brain function, they have nothing beyond the will to survive. I doubt it occurred to them that the planet was exploding, hence being a good way to kill Samus.

Did you know
The story arc is all about Samus eliminating all Metroids and being infused with Metroid DNA just so when folk refer to her as 'Metroid' they are technically correct and the game's title makes sense!

@MS7000

Actually in Fusion there was a similar scenario where they did show that the X had a capacity for self-sacrifice for the sake of the species' survival. There was a mission in that game where an X absorbed a scientist's memories and set the whole B.S.L. station to explode and take Samus down with it so that the X on SR388 could survive and spread to other planets.

As for not knowing the planet was exploding, I think they probably would've picked up on Raven Beak and Samus being extremely strong, and we know the X were aware of their battle because one of them possessed Raven Beak. So I don't see how they wouldn't have known.

...Is 100% the game actually worth it? I'm starting to think it's not worth it...and it's just infuriating me more and more each day...I don't even think I want to touch this game again after beating it.

Yeah, there's no single Metroid in here (apart from the intro flashback and some unlockable artwork).
The only Metroid in this game is Samus.
And she's also immune to the hostile X virus. So she is two dangerous alien lifeforms combined with a human and a crazy Chozo suit on top.

I hope Metroid X (or Metroid 6) builds upon her new alien superpowers. Samus' Metroid form looks too cool. I guess it can't be unlocked for regular play?

@Joeynator3000 I think it's great. I get stuck occassionally and have an explore, but the game keeps giving you that sense of 'ah-HA!' which is brill

I am seriously stuck. I don't want any spoilers or spoilers disguised as 'vague' clues, and I don't want to look up any guides, I just want to figure out why I'm stuck. I've been back and forth all around the areas of Cataria and Dairon open to me, at least twice, re-trying every room for secret blocks etc. but I'm just throwing up zero after zero. I got the wide beam and assumed that was going to take me places, but I haven't progressed meaningfully at all since then.

There's a few blinking areas on my map, nearly all in EMMI zones, but I've been all through them firing every missile and charge beam I can muster in every corner etc, but the only hidden stuff I find is blocks that I can't yet destroy.

I want to go back to Artaria cos I think there are areas there I skipped, but I don't have the ability to get through small horizontal openings/crawl spaces, so I can't backtrack.

Still enjoying the game, but it's now 2 play sessions I've spent trying to resolve this and got nowhere.

@gcunit I've had that problem as well, but there's always more you can do than you think you can do. Evaluate your main objectives, and look for unexplored rooms on the map. That's what I do in those situations.

@gcunit You'll figure it out. I spent an evening combing every level wondering where to go and totally missed an elevator lol. It's so much better when you figure it out yourself (and it's not a race to finish the game or anything)

Huh? What's the problem?
Higher Item% makes life easier, especially when it's energy containers.

When I completed the game with 100%
I unlocked

Hard Mode
Chozo Archive (9 artworks)
Awards (1 artwork out of six 6)
Credits

So the actual rewards are relatively thin and not worth it.

Also I don't know how much of these are tied to 100%. I guess time (and maybe hard mode) also plays a factor in unlocking stuff?

The best reward is just having collected everything and be the strongest Samus you can be.

My strategy was to use my latest skills/weapons on objects I couldn't interact with before.
You know, when you get the Spider Magnet then your next destination is climbing some blue walls.
You know when you get the Speed Boost, then your next destination is marked by a series of breakable walls.
And so on.
It's a pattern woven into the whole game that always draws you towards the main path.
Obviously this doesn't help if you simply overlook a door, a teleporter, or an elevator.
Also, exploring (the corners of the map) will reduce available options (or reveal new paths), but that's beginner's advice. For me however, it helped a lot, getting better oversight on a cleaned up map, knowing exactly where the barriers were. I also put a rocket to every special block so that they unravel their element for the rest of the game (and this info instantly transfers to the map as well).

@gcunit It seems to me you haven't put your newly acquired Wide Beam to good use. Maybe check its description and tutorial video again?

Well, in Cataris, Adam tells Samus to find the shuttle and take it to the next area, so I've gone back to Dairon, which is where you get the wide beam, but I've already used that upgrade on every applicable box and cover accessible to me - all the ones I can get to show as 'used'.

Here's my current map in Dairon:

@MS7000 Wouldn't it make more sense for QR-X to not help her and just let her die on ZDR? If Samus survives, she can still hunt any further X-parasites that might happen to be elsewhere. Sure she's less of a threat if she's not an uncontrollable Metroid, but she's not a threat at all if she's dead.

Can she still hunt the X-Parasites if they are elsewhere? The X that infected Quiet Robe, which has his DNA, memories and knowledge, willingly gave itself up knowing that the Thoha strain of Chozo DNA subdues Metroids. Upon receiving that DNA, Samus had an immediate regression of her Metroid characteristics, and it could be possible that whatever characteristics she gained from the vaccine are now suppressed which would mean she is not immune to and cannot absorb X. This presents the X-Parasites potentially, if any still exist elsewhere, with a host that QR-X knew had eradicated 99.99% of their greatest threat across the galaxy. If there's any chance that she could be host to the parasites, she would be too valuable to have killed off given her success against Metroid threats and just due to her overall power in general.

I'm 4 hours and 20 minutes in and I love it!!! This is my first 2D Metroid game, I played some Metroid Prime on the GameCube, but didn't get very far or go back to it for some reason.

I love the atmosphere, I've seen people on Twitter etc saying they are lost, I've never felt lost, but have felt stuck several times, usually because I need to find a hidden block or something.

I just beat Kraid and have picked up the Diffusion Beam and Bomb. I'm now in Dairon looking for the second power generator. Not sure if that is good or bad progress after over 4 hours, but I don't care, I love it!! Possibly the best game I have played this year.

@I-U That seems like a good reason as well to be fair. I mean, if it wasn't for the vaccine in Fusion, the SA-X probably would of already spread across the galaxy without being stopped.

@Bolt_Strike The only other theory I can think off would be if for some reason, QR-X was behaving like the actual Quiet Robe and was being kind to Samus, but that doesn't make much sense given it reactivated the E.M.M.Is to hunt Samus down earlier.
