I’m too old and jaded to feel dread from a game the way I did when I was a kid, but Metroid Dread has a palpable atmosphere and as I reflect on it, I did dread those final EMMI sections.
This game just hit the spot for me. Right when I was pushed to the edge of frustration I’d crack it, and feel I had gotten better at the game. By the end, I didn’t want it to end.
I really do think it’s perfectly paced for what it is. But as far as atmosphere there was something about Feraria (I think that’s the name) that really felt eerie to me.
@Mountain_Man I rushed the first 3 tries of Kraid too. Realizing after all you have to do is play the waiting game and shoot the balls and nails he projectiles to get more missiles and power. It actually wasn't too bad if you just take your time and stock up on those two items.
@roy130390 First off, yikes. What a judgmental, childish reply. Second off, I'm explaining my initial impressions of the game. I gave it a go, didn't like it, and of course, all the fanboys have to jump down my throat with their lame accusations and half-arsed assessments of my character. Look in the mirror, instead of pointing fingers. Such brats that post on this site, I swear...
@MrDinosaur I tried Metroid Dread for nearly two hours, it didn't keep my attention. I don't like the game, and while your explanation of the system is good, the game is not for me. I'm not going to continue to hit my head against a game I don't like. Thanks for trying to explain, though.
@Balta666@Mountain_Man yeah, I actually had the same experience - one of the EMMIs I was able to consistently parry several times in the row pretty much every time. Not sure if that's intentional or a bug but yeah. But any other EMMI parry was just pure luck.
@BloodNinja You gave it a shot and didn't like it - that's only fair. No point in doing something you don't enjoy when you're trying to entertain yourself. So what are you gonna play instead?
Are you aware of ironies? Your previous post with the "brat" and "fanboy name-calling was quite immature and mine didn't insult you at any point or do anything to be considered that. I'm not even a child and one of the most stupid things that you can do in an argument is to try to diminish someone by treating them as younger than them just because you don't have a smart, proper way to respond instead and your point doesn't have any weight. This is pretty much an example of what you do with other people's arguments and why people have problems with you despite of being a peaceful site for the most part. Honestly it would be worse for you if I was a child as you, as an adult, have shown way more immaturity.
Second, how am I judging you more than you have been judging anyone else? You call anyone that points out your contradictions fanboys and I'm saying that you seem to have something against the game since you've been obsessed with saying negative things about it even before it came out and fighting on many comments sections. There's nothing wrong with disliking the game and what was shown, but constantly doing that and being rude to people that discussed with you shows your bias against the game. Hey, at least I base my opinion on something unlike you. Your whole premise is "if you don't respect my constant bashing of the game and contradictory points you are a fanboy!" Don't say that others are judgemental or suggest them to "look at themselves in the mirror" when you can't even recognize that you do the same with much less reason to.
Also, just as you are free to criticize the game, people are free to criticize the quality of your arguments.
I usually don't reply as harshly, but you started it by suggesting that I'm a brat and calling me a fanboy. Please let's avoid name calling as well as saying stuff like "you are a troll" or "you are a fanboy".
There's a reason why you fight so many people on the site and it isn't just on this thread. Hint: it isn't because they are brats and usually, the common denominator is responsible. It isn't about you liking or disliking the game, at least from my part and from what I've seen it wasn't the problem that others had either. It's about your attitude and your insistence with bashing it without little to no reason to the point of saying that "it shouldn't require patience" which as many pointed out, it's a thing required in most games including many that you used as examples.
Anyway I'm gonna leave it at that or this thread will be off-topic. You do you and play what you want.
I'm not sure about one thing tho - does ADAM even exist or was it Raven Beak guiding you all along trying to wake the Metroid power within?
Truthfully, I was wondering that too.
But I think it was the real Adam you were speaking to for most of the game and that only the last contact was Raven Beak. Adam warns Samus on the ship not to pilot it due to her new Metroid abilities.
I've been "dreading" (pun intended 😉) fighting the certain boss by the hieroglyphs and haven't yet attempted it again.
Got my Switch OLED yesterday and am in the process of redownloading 1TB card worth of games, and I hate playing while doing that because it slows (or even stops, if playing Tetris Effect) the download process.
But I love the anticipation that's been building for me thinking about this upcoming fight and how I'm going to approach it. Phase shifting is a great idea. And, perhaps the melee counter could be used strategically.

I just got to the "water" area in the game( forgot the name). That's where I turned it off last night. The game is truly amazing honestly and I can't wait to get back into it later tonight. It may be my favorite metroid experience thus far. As great as the gameplay was in samus returns this blows it out of the water.
@DomGCThat's a good catch! Does Adam call her Lady in previous entires as well?
I'll be replaying the game again on Hard mode once I 100% it on the standard difficulty (I am at 99% now ) so hopefully I'll notice new stuff I didn't before.
@DomGC That's a good catch, but that said, I don't think that in and of itself would be enough to say for the entire game that Samus was not speaking to Adam. I double checked fusion and whilst admittedly Adam will only call Samus "lady" after the initial reveal that he is Adam, he calls her multiple times as Samus throughout Fusion. Then as I said, given what he says in the end to Samus on the ship, implies that he at least knew what was going on the entire time, either by him speaking to Samus directly or being able to monitor the "interactions", and if the latter, why not try to alert Samus?
I had so much trouble with the water boss haha... It wasn't even difficult, I was just being dumb and not realising what to do. I can't wait to keep playing today.
Does anybody know if a fully charged wave beam shot does more damage than a super missile like in the other games? And if so, do you think the storm missiles would do more damage than that? I'm wondering because I am not sure how to approach the fight with the evil Chozo guy. His second phase has me wondering if I should try a different strategy using storm missiles instead of charged shots.
