Hrm... based on reviews and some input from you guys, I think I've turned into a "wait until DLC" person. Bummer, but I'll finally get around to some other games.

Really thinking of getting PGA Golf instead! I've seen it very cheap and apparently the online is still active as it's crossplay. I think Mario Golf has become too party game and not golf game enough for me. Toadstool Tour seemed to strike the best balance there.

PGA Tour 2K21 is pretty good, and it's dirt cheap right now. Comes with a ton of courses out of the box and is decently challenging.

Doesn't it require a constant internet connection though?

Because that's been the big sore point for me.

Just tried battle golf. It’s pretty fun as a diversifier. You can play against the computer as well, which is nice. Not sure it’s something I’d sink a whole lot of time into, but it’s a nice change of pace every once in a while.

Now that I’ve played all the courses, it’s basically just a matter of finishing the single player adventure, and playing golf with motion controls whenever I get the itch. Which is the main reason I wanted this game. I really don’t feel like booting up the Wii U every time I want to play motion golf, and as good as Wii Sports Club is, there’s only 3 courses and they all look the same, and I’ve played them for many years now..

Im also wondering how this would play on the Switch Lite. It says its supported on the Nintendo Website and on the eshop when you go to it.

@Atomic77 : With buttons. It plays fine. I’ve only played it in handheld mode on an OG Switch though I’m keen to sample motion controls at some point as well.

Thanks, it does sound good! Can you download user created courses from the game too?

Apparently that's the case. Not too much of a problem for me though as I pretty much play my Switch only at home anyway unless I take it on holiday with me.

Hmmm... I was not aware of that. It seems you can still play one-off local matches offline, but all of your character progression is only available when online. So if you play offline, your character will revert back to level 0.

Just grabbed it. The kids are playing now but I'll be doing a deep dive later tonight.

4 hours in. I’m enjoying it. The adventure mode does a good job. I’m in the desert course

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

Just turned the game on again, and now for some reason I’m wearing a skirt. I’ve checked my Mii settings and still male, but am getting a gusty chill up my areas in Wildweather Woods.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

I’m enjoying it quite a bit as well. The actual gameplay is really solid, the wrapper is a bit B tier, but that’s indicative of the overall Mario sports experience in my opinion. I played online with NBN last night and it performed flawlessly. It was fun to play and chat casually. Looking forward to unlocking more courses.

I bet Birdo put that skirt on your Mii while you were away.

I do hope they put real effort into not only refining the game's motion controls, but also in fleshing it out with more characters and courses (beyond New Donk City) that pull from other Mario/Nintendo properties. Imagine playing as Link on a Hyrule-themed course... Hey, if LoZ can creep its way into Mario Kart, why not in Mario Golf?

Ugh, this damn sickness of mine has stopped me from playing this and the Stories 2 demo. :c

Anyways, I don't think I understand EVERYTHING when it comes to the shots, but...I'm doing "decent" I guess? xD

I want this game. It’s on my must buy list.

The PSVR is the best VR system on the market today.

Finally dug into the career mode. Enjoying along with the online. It's pretty much exactly what I wanted In a mario golf game. Now if I could just get my mii some cooler outfits 🤔

So that XC golf is a little rough around the edges lol

So, what little time i had to play recently, i tried to get through the Cross Country section of the Story Mode without any luck.
And i have to be honest, i might just ditch the game at this point. I'm really not enjoying it as much as i hoped i would. Playing courses with any kind of verticality is just a giant headache.
The shot line is no help at all, playing sharp, high lobs is pretty much impossible...

I really tried, and "normal" Golf is really great. But the new shot system...it's completely ruining it for me...i might as well roll the dice on shots, this is not fun at all sadly :/

Sorry Super Rush, but i think i give up. I tried my best, but it's just too frustrating for my taste...

@NintendoByNature - It was just a few nights ago that I was cursing XC Golf, but now I already look back on it fondly as long as I don’t have to do it again. You have to put the aggressive play out of your mind and lay up everywhere to set up good shots. You should have enough strokes in the six and nine hole challenges to play incredibly conservative. It’s not free ripping fun, but it did have my heart pumping finishing the nine hole on a final stroke putt. You have to use the tornados, but you gotta hit them head on with a shot that’s still ascending to get predictable results out of them.
