@Ralizah Yeah I remember playing that boss fight as a kid and thinking this is a bit brutal and then as an adult I thought the exact same thing again. It feels more like torturing a creature than overcoming an provocative menace.
I really can't stand Sunshine, to be honest. I hate the FLUDD (or however it's spelled), and for some reason the hit and platforming detection/perception for platforming and enemies seems wonky to me. Mario 64 and Galaxy - I had an absolute blast, but Sunshine is just frustrating me to no end.
Sunshine came out when I was in college, so I didn't have a GameCube, but my little bro did and I remember messing around with Sunshine all those years ago. Even back then I hated it, and that's after Mario 64 being one of my favorite games of all time. From reading this thread it seems most people enjoy Sunshine, but gah, I can't stand it.
@Ninjalaislit No, both have proper gyro, but the right one is the sole one used in many titles. The IR doesn't matter because there's no sensor bar for it to use to orient itself.
@rallydefault Having not played any of these games on their original hardware (only 64 DS), I came to the same conclusion. Sunshine's controls are really fiddly and the FLUDD is just as bad. Aiming is a chore, and it was ported in an incredibly lazy manner. And Galaxy, and even 64 controlled and played better.
@Ralizah About that blooper... Yuck. You literally rip off this poor blooper´s arms, who shouldn´t even be on land and is probably dying. I mean, he is just chilling out! Then you walk around and rip off all of his body parts.
Mario needs a chaperone.
We need a Mario + Rabbids sequel! And an Odyssey one too!
@link3710
That's what I was thinking.
Isn't the Right Joy-Con IR Sensor "advanced enough" to "point" at the screen without a sensor?
I believe World of Goo did something similar, IIRC.

@Ninjalaislit Nope! Both joy-cons can do that. But they rely on manual recalibration, they don't know where the screen is. Keep in mind, the IR sensor on the right joy-con is on the bottom. it points away from the screen while playing, not toward it. Not to mention, there's no IR light source for it to use as a reference point (which is what the sensor bar really was).
@link3710
Oh okay, that makes sense.
I do remember the IR Sensor on the Right Joy-Con being talked about when the Switch first released.
This would mean the only way for the Joy-Con to be an (almost) exact 1:1, it would be having a "sensor bar" attachment on the back of the Right Joy-Con, which I don't even know if that would work.
Also, IIRC, I believe the 3D All Stars emulator is an entirely new emulator, and is not connected to either Dolphin or the Nvidia Shield Wii/GC emulator. Your comment about how Dolphin handled the "pointer" made me think of the 3D All Stars emulator.

OK, I forgot how bad some of these Pianta Village levels were. Whoever greenlit The Goopy Inferno and those levels with the chucksters where the slightest change in Mario's angle will send him hurtling to his death can bite me.

@Ralizah
Yeah, some of the levels in Sunshine can definitely be bizarre, frustrating or both.
I think that's the main reason why Sunshine is so polarized among the community.

Are you guys expecting anything else out of the upcoming update, besides for the camera control options?
Here's what I'm thinking/hoping will be in the next update (or further updates)
Realistically:
Bug Fixes in the emulation (like the Sirena Beach clean up bug, the debug "cubes")
Other minor tweaks/bug fixes
Hopes:
Button remapping, or at least a "Modern" / "Classic" control types.
Widescreen for 64
Suspend Points

Oh come on guys! Suspend points? In a game that has saving ability? Yeah maybe for old school shooters or games that had no way to save progress but now you're just being lazy.
I'd be happy with widescreen for mario 64 and an improved camera also for mario 64. Never had any camera issues with sunshine or galaxy.

@Zeldafan79 yes indeed, I am a lazy modern gamer I hate to replay 3/4 of a level if I make a bad jump seconds before the boss starts. I was okay with that 15 years ago, but not anymore.
@AwesomEli Pull his nozzle until his eyes turn purple, then let go. That's enough, you don't need to pull it all the way, giving you enough time to do it before he can hit you again. You can also jump on the tentacles to disable them. If you spray his face, he'll slam all his four tentacles, making it easy to quickly disable them, but you really only need to worry about the innermost two tentacles. He won't hit you with the other two if you pull his nozzle.
@Octane So I didn't need to go all Evangelion Unit-01 on poor ol' Blooper Gooper two different times? Good to know. If I ever replay the game, I'll have to keep in mind.

@toiletduck
Yeah, suspend points would be nice for the more frustrating parts of SM64 (like the Final Boss, Sliding levels, and a couple other levels I can't think of currently).
