@Magician Well, thanks to you mentioning Hand of Fate 2 here, it is now on my wish list, because it definitely looks interesting. It'll have to wait for later, though. I've already bought more than enough games this month, so I've got to reign myself in a bit...

I always contribute this game to threads like these: Graceful Explosion Machine.

If you're any kind of side-scrolling, twin-stick, action shooter person, you should definitely check it out. It came out way back at the beginning of Switch, so the eShop was sparse and the game was easy to find, but nowadays I don't really know how you'd come across it by chance unless it goes on sale because it's never in the best-selling lists.

Simple graphics, simple premise, compact stages, fantastic replayable gameplay...just awesome.

@ThanosReXXX Well, I wouldn't have been so willing to immediately bag up 3 of your recommendations if they weren't at bargain bin prices. One of them was £0.50 and the three of them together only came to about £4 in total. I'll only pay more than £7 for a digital purchase for the top-tier (or supposedly) games, and I don't think I've spent more than £10 on a digital Switch game more than once (I think it was Runner 3, which I was hyped for and was happy to support - I own the physical version as well now). Games as good as Celeste and Cuphead, for example, have to wait until I can get them for under £10 (though in Cuphead's case I'm actually waiting for the physical release because they had the decency to announce that there would be one - still waiting for a date guys!!?).

As for Rogue Trooper, I have the Wii version and so don't feel any need to get the Switch version - all they did was up-res it I think. But I'll keep my fingers crossed for you...

You guys had me at blood and semen.

@gcunit As cool as Cuphead is, I found the difficulty to be a little too punishing. Tried playing it a bunch of times, but the lack of making any progress was disappointing. I haven't touched it since. Makes me wonder how far the average person gets, and if they stick with it for long. It's a shame there isn't a demo.

@gcunit Yeah, it's basically a HD version, although they did tweak the game somewhat as well, ironing out some bugs and stuff.

@WoomyNNYes I think I generally find that if a game is hard but is just a matter of persevering and gitting gud, and has a quick turnaround between failure and having another go, then I tend to lap it up. It's games where either it's not really clear why I'm failing, or maybe I have to repeat the approach over and over, that put me off.

As far as I'm aware Cuphead is a fairly concise game and perseverance will win out. But I've not tried it yet and have deliberately avoided watching videos of it, so I could be mistaken.

Anyway, back to the hidden gems...

Xmorph. It’s a twin stick shooter blended with a tower defence game. I bought it when it went on a deep sale a couple of weeks ago (can’t remember how much but it was less than 5 quid). Played the first few levels and so far it’s been a lot of fun.

It’s funny because I played the demo and wasn’t that fussed with it but it keeps growing on me each time I go back to it. In summary definitely worth a few quid if you like strategy games.

I like games that have an easy mode or give you power ups or allow you to grind and get more powerful to eventually beat the enemy/ boss.

As for hidden gems.... I like Yet Another Zombie Defense and Implosion...

Digging this thread up to just to give a shout for Little Bug, which is a platforming game I've just started playing tonight and finding pretty absorbing.

It doesn't really explain itself, but involves helping a young girl with a lunchbox traverse the environment, through the use of an electro-grapple type ball that you move with the right stick while moving the girl with the left stick, slinging her around the screen while trying to avoid hurty stuff.

I'm not really sure what the lunchbox is all about, but the vibe is pretty cool and intriguing. I picked it up cheap on sale, which I think has just ended, but no doubt it will go on sale again pretty soon, if you're interested.
