@mav-i-am But for a game like FIFA, that mode happens to be a pretty big unique selling point of the Switch version. 'Local multiplayer, anywhere, anytime!' kinda loses it's shine if it's gimped.
then buy another controller, job jobbed.
Switch games list,
Legend of Zelda BotW, Human resource machine, NBA Playgrounds, Street Fighter 2, Super Bomberman R, Snipperclips, Overcooked, World of Goo.
What I gather from the commercial is that EA/Nintendo were being cautious to not to show the game being placed with a single Joy-Con (to avoid false advertising), as I assume that it would not be compatible. It would surely support local multiplayer with a single Switch console, but I imagine that each player will need a "full" controller (either a pair of Joy-Cons or a Pro Controller), making the game slightly less portable for those wanting to take it on the go.
I know people have mentioned that the switch version is probably a proof of concept showing the xbox 360 ps3 graphics but why wouldnt you want to showcase the better ps4 graphics. Heck you could create the exact graphics youd want in the switch by tweaking a pc build. I gathered there wouldnt be realtime grass etc but looking at the footage the lighting looks on par with ps3 as well as the skin shaders. It just seems so lazy to me.
If EA really were to go all out on the Switch version, build a brand new engine, give it Switch exclusive modes that are actually worth playing and ensuring it's a version that's going to receive good reviews and press, then the game will sell very well. It's not as if Nintendo fans don't like football,we just don't like old dodgy ports of it.The new engine doesn't need to look as impressive as the other versions but it has to look like a real step up from the last gen or how are we supposed to get excited for it,let alone getting anyone who already has it on another console interested.Give it it's own unique art style, like they done with Grandslam Tennis.Maybe not so cartoony, but something that's going to stand the test of time over the next few years,If we are to get any future iterations, then they're not going to be building a new engine every year so the first one is important. If it is the last gen engine,it's going to look even more dated come FIFA19/20/21.Surely it's in EA's interest for the Switch to be succesful.A good solid and unique Switch FIFA could be huge for it's chances of success. An out of date, gimped port will create so much negativity going into the holiday season.Especially within the UK and Europe.
As for playing with single Joy-cons,they could work great with a 5-a-side mode.I don't know if they still include that mode anymore but I used to really enjoy playing it with my pals.I loved FIFA Street too on Wii (maybe it was Gamecube).
I would like to see EA go all out with motion controlled sports games like they had on Wii.Some of them were superb and now with much improved motion ,they can be so much better.
Rory Mcillroy
Grandslam Tennis
Fight Night
These 3 are perfect for the Switch.Who wouldn't want to play as Ali v Tyson with proper 1:1 motion controls.
I hope Konami release a Pro Evo game that does everything Football fans on Switch want. Sadly FIFA would sell well on its name and rights regardless of quality.
I was thinking more in the future once the switch has hopefully established itself a bit more and we start to see Konami and the like bringing more titles to the Switch.
I agree to a certain extent. "So far" EA message hasn't been consistent enough for me to feel confident not just about Fifa but about future support from them if any on Switch. With that said we haven't seen enough or basically any footage for switch version. So let's see what the final product we get and judge from there.
It looks good enough to me. I haven't played a soccer/futball game in over 10 years and I'm not a fan but I did like playing the game when I did so I will pick this up at around launch. I really hope this turns into support for Hockey and Madden as well down the road.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
Question for you guys. I have noticed that the switch version doesn't have the clothes physics... is this really demanding on a cpu and switch just can't handle it? For some reason clothing physics is my most liked graphical feature in sports games. Nba 2k13 on Wii U didn't have it and it sucked for me. I hope 2k18 has this problem taken care of.
Madden is all I really want from EA. NHL games are great, but the seasons are so long that I never manage to play decent careers. Madden on the other hand I've had dynasties spanning several decades, with my most memorable being the relocated Orlando Hornets that raised the greatest cornerback and DE in the history of the game. Alonzo Dunbar breaking the Int record after being a fifth round WR selection originally is still one of my best gaming memories
