@gcunit The game is largely catering to those Banjo/Nintendo fans so it fits perfectly. Will it be liked by all, probably not, but last I checked the Banjo games sold millions and some (including Myself) felt they out did Mario 64 and I loved that game.

Yes it is weird that a game funded by Banjo Kazooie nostalgia would use things from Banjo Kazooie.

I always thought the concept of the game was to make an up-to-date classic 3D platforming game. By including the 'dodgy' sound from the 90s it may just as well be an HD re-skin.

@gcunit Not really otherwise you start getting into controversial debates like why play BotW when you can play Skyrim instead?

A HD re-skin of Banjo Kazooie would probably sell better than Yooka Laylee.

I had a Wii U digital version but I opted for the refund instead of a Switch version. In the span of two years a lot has happened. Relationships, changes to the way I buy games, my gaming collection. The list goes on. And for me personally, I no longer do digital games unless they are 100% not getting a retail release.

Don't get me wrong I love this game but with the Switch being a portable, I feel that to conserve memory and reduce the spending on SD cards it would be wiser to get retail-only games. And given this game will no doubt get a retail release anyway, I might as well wait

Wouldn't the retail version cost more than digital though, it's a £20 upgrade to a box version (like the PS4-Xbone, it may be more for the Switch where cartridges cost slightly more discs) where as just buying an extra SD for this one game would cost less than £10 for a small SD card.

@jump True but it is like I said, the way I live my life has drastically changed in two years. I used to buy things at a whim but now I am wiser and set a goal of having as many of my games on a bookshelf as possible. A collection I can be proud of. And with that requires me to cut out digital games in favor of having another game on the shelf.

Yesterday Runbow arrived. It never got a UK retail release (and now won't) but the developers rock so much I made it an honorary part of my Wii U collection. When Breath of the Wild ends my Wii U's life, I will have 45 wonderful games in my collection.

Also I run a Streetpass Gaming group so my choices in what I spend gaming wise will impact the group. I have to be careful. Heck, I have pre-ordered 8 of those Hori Switch Stand things and the means to charge 8 Switches for table top mode.

The Yooka-Laylee Rap!

I would prefer that this is a bit cheaper, and I have never played the N64 games so I wouldn't be purchasing based on nostalgic. But I am interested if this turns out to be good, I used to only like 2d platformers until Super Mario Galaxy turned my head. So this would be a rare opportunity to give another one a spin, assuming that it won't be finally released on Switch around the same time as Mario Odyssey.

@JoeDiddley I said this before but they had better get this out on the Switch no less then 3 months before Mario. Mario will kill any momentum.

As for this game, it will do extremely well and it will rate high too. This is coming from well known devs within the industry. The question will be how well will the humor and character dialog hold up in this day and age. I see some people complaining about the way the characters talk. There will be some people that can't look past certain things but the Banjo games were preferred by me even over Mario 3d and I like Mario 3d a lot.

Oh and as for price, I have no doubt this should be a full retail game. This price for this game is a bargain.

Yeah, I'm not expecting it to be anything more than all the things people hated about DK64 (did they keep the "arcade on every stage?" thing from the previews), but I loved DK64 so I'm excited. I'd say it'll hit that niche market though. Time will tell, I guess.

Reviews are in for Yooka-Laylee and they're not great.It's currently at 63 on Metacritic.It's had a few positive reviews so I'm sure fans of these kind of platformers like myself will still enjoy it for what it is but it seems it's brought a lot of the bad points from these games with it.

That Jimquistion guy has slaughtered it,gave it 2/10.He can't be taken seriously though,he gave BOTW 7/10.Fair enough he didn't enjoy it as much as most people have but how can you score a game like that 7/10.

Someone on Youtube told me that the Xbox1 and PS4 versions are done by a 3rd party, while the PC and Switch are being dealt with by Playtonic themselves. So...there's that.

I've not seen so many up and down reviews for a game in a long time. I've seen as high as 100 down to 20. Looks like this will cater well to those that love the old games but younger gamers just might not like it. I know I will love it.

@Joeynator3000 pc yes as was the Wii U version but the Switch version I would assume would also be handled by the 3rd party since it's now looking like a port.

I'm hoping so but don't see anything coming till after the launch. Seems Xone is getting slightly better reviews atm. Interested to see what pushsquares is. Is that one up yet?

Just read push squares. Camera seems to be the biggest complaint. Can't see how they can screw that up in this day and age.
