@rsbrowndog Unless there's some significant Switch exclusive content, holding this game back for a Direct surprise announcement won't really make any sense. It's not like we didn't know this game existed and was cancelled on the Wii U to potentially come to the Switch.

I wouldn't complain about a physical release since it was never promised or even mentioned in the beginning. Sure would like that option though but the portability of the Switch makes me think I always want it with me anyways.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
Just got my email!
Final choice time!
£20 to upgrade to physical on PS4 or XBONE.
Personally I'm going Switch all day long. Playing on the go will be mad dope, and BoTw and snipperclips will keep me busy for a while
I think I'll go with XB1 and buy the Switch version if I decide I want a Switch (still unsure and Nintendo really needs to give more Switch info in February...)
They won't hold this for a direct, since its releasing on other consoles - it would be free publicity on Nintendo's part.
No news about Switch for the Wii U backers? January ends tomorrow and its weird they don't have any official announcement. It doesn't make them look well at all.
I dunno, I'm still holding out hope for a launch day reveal.
Playtonic have used Unity to build Yooka-Laylee and we know that Nintendo have listed Unity as one of their partners. I might be oversimplifying things a tad here, but surely they just have to build the Switch target from within Unity?
(Like I say, I might be oversimplifying but having made a game myself with Unity producing an Android and a Windows version was a simple as that, bar a small amount of platform-specific code. Of course I am also assuming that there is a Switch target ready in Unity too...)
So given that it has gone gold today AND we're still 4 and a half weeks from the Switch launch AND this is going to be eShop only, so no physical copies to produce... Maybe?
A Nintendo Direct focused on eShop and VC titles revealing this as a launch day title, over a month before the PS4 and XB1 release? How brilliant would that be?
@rsbrowndog When you say "launch day", do you mean "the launch of the Nintendo Switch", or do you mean "launching simultaneously with the other 3 versions"...because as we said before, the Switch version started later, and yet it doesn't come out until April on other platforms, last I checked. It could still release in April and they just don't want to make any promises they'll regret, but releasing in March with the Nintendo Switch...even if Ninty helped that along, they should announce that ahead of time if that's what they were planning. There's no benefit to keeping that hidden, yet hiding it would be a idiotic head-spinner surpassing even Koei-Tecmo's dumbest moves...
@CanisWolfred I mean available on Switch launch day, March 3rd. And I appreciate that work on the Switch version started later, but it's not like that requires building in huge amounts of extra functionality like the Wii U version would have, i.e. second screen functionality, etc.
Obviously if they (and Nintendo) are going to do this then they really need to do it before Kickstarter backers (of which I am one) receive these surveys making their choices.
It's a slim hope admittedly, but I will hold onto it for now!
@rsbrowndog Eh, go ahead. So long as you understand that the chances are unlikely...if they even exist outside your head...because what you are suggesting is that they are planning a surprise launch-release of the Switch version....as in, a brand new console. And a kickstarted game at that, where many people who wanted to buy it already locked down their platform version of choice months ago, and they just announced that they'll give people who were going to buy the Wii U version a chance to change platforms or request a refund, but still they did not say anything even remotely to the effect of "we're planning to release the Switch version on launch day, over a month ahead of the other platforms, which, btw, just went gold."
Again, I'm pretty sure that's bad business. They would be bad businessmen, assuming that they actually want people to buy the Switch version. And if Nintendo was involved, they would be bad businessmen if they didn't shout that from atop the rafters, because lord knows, they could use the publicity almost as badly as Yooka-Laylee, if not moreso!
