It's going to be a kickstarted. I know for sure I'll be pledging big time. This is what Kickstarter is about for me, giving to proven developers, not gambling on people that have never made a game before. A Wii U version will surely be a stretch goal from their comments.
"And out of about 500 emails we receive every week, probably about 499 of them are shouting Wii U! Wii U! As a games fan, I've been a Nintendo fanboy since the NES days. Most of are fans are Nintendo fans as well. So while we can't confirm what platforms we will be on - some of that is beyond our control - but we are developing on Unity and we don't want to leave anyone out. And we'd try to ship simultaneously to make the biggest splash possible when the game comes out."
They would be nuts not to make a Wii U version as it's the best market for this type of game. The goal will be there just how much will be the question.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
The kickstarter campaign will start in May. I may seriously contribute somehow!
If you don't want to give money, I hear they will be accepting non-perishable food donations.
In May I imagine we will see more photos (video?) of this, and if it looks good, this will be the first Kickstarter for a game that I will contribute too. Somehow.
I'll definitely support the Kickstarter if it looks good and there's a Wii U version confirmed. The Nintendo bias during the Q&A does make it seem likely though mentioning amiibo made me cringe given how rare everything post-wave 1 is.
I think the amiibo support is for amiibo of Nintendo characters. I don't know if there would actually be Project Ukulele amiibo.
Given that the topic of the question was about collectable figurines of their characters I interpreted it as they wanted amiibo of their characters. Could be wrong though.
Some people have noticed that near the bottom left of that screenshot you can see some sort of snake or something:
Looks a lot like the character teased on the website!
Where is it?! I must be blind and it's killing me!
As for amiibo, they probably meant working with Nintendo to add functionality to, say, the Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong figurines. Which would be more than fine by me.
EDIT: Saw it! Looks more like a frog to me, which would definitely fit with the first teaser image of the characters' eyes.
There's definitely a snake in the bottom left corner. Or well.. SOME kind of reptile at least.
These screenshots really look like the CG art from the old DKC manuals and box covers.
Or is that just me?
