That’s my problem, I panic and do not properly use the small hit box as I should. There’s so much coming at you at once with this game it’s hard to keep the nerves calm.

I enjoyed the heck out of this one, but this was the best I could do. Definitely one I'll come back to frequently, and feel like its made me a little better at shmups in general. Great scores everyone!
@GFoyle so is the Hori RAP for Switch pretty much useless for shmups in its vanilla state without mod parts?
It's fine as it is (I used it in the Tengai challenge as is), it's just the square base and large "throw" (how much movement between one edge to the other / from centre to edge) are not ideal for shmups. The spring is a bit light as well, it makes the stick feel "loose", some like that, some don't. Those mods do following:
stiffer string makes less loose (matter of preference)
oversize actuator reduces the amount you need to move the stick before it triggers in any direction (I read this mod was designed originally for shmups in mind)
octagonal restrictor gate replaces the square one which almost all these sticks have pre-installed (I guess the fighting game fans prefer it). I definitely like it more than the square one. Note! the oversized actuator require this mod as well.
Note! I read that Seimitsu joysticks would be a bit more ideal for shumps (less throw) and are the ones mainly used in the original arcade machines for these kind of games (fighting games use Sanwa, which is I guess similar to the Hayabusa which comes in the Hori stick). Those joysticks do not fit as easily to Hori unfortunately though, there is some soldering and cutting wires you need to do, not sure what else.
I guess I won then! But because I really don't have the luxury to really participate in the next one, again I would like give the choice of next game to the player who came second (@masterLEON).
At some point in future, it might make sense to select previously selected games again and to have "round 2" challenges for those (previous score wouldn't apply).
@GFoyle If you're absolutely sure, then that's ok by me
This may be a good time to introduce the NAMCO Museum to the weekly challenge. It seems that enough people either have or are willing to get it for the challenge. So for this week, I'd like to choose Galaga '88, default settings (basically, the same settings required for their leaderboard; select round OFF, 3 lives, extend Type A, difficulty normal, select fighter ON, continue OFF). Sound cool?
I gotta step out for a bit (it's Free Comic Book Day in the US today, so I gotta go do the rounds), but I'll see about helping @OorWullie out to gather the Dragon Blaze scores from this past week.
@masterLEON Yep, I'm sure, and your choice fits perfectly what I was initially thinking as well! I just didn't know which one of those Namco Museum games I would select, so I thought it's easier to give the whole choice to second place.
Sorry for the late update. It's my last week in the UK so been visiting some friends and family.I fly Friday morning so I won't be be able to add the next leaderboard till at least Sunday as well. After that things will be back to normal for me and I'll have plenty time to take part in the challenges too, unlike this past week.
Congratulations @Gfoyle for that outstanding score ,well played.
I'll open the new challenge for Galaga 88 just now and add the leaderboard at some point on Sunday.
I really love Galaga 88 but I'm absolutely terrible at it. I can't seem to get the rythym down and the bonus stages after the first seem impossible. I'm not sure I'll have enough to play it much this week so I can't see myself getting any better at it. Still I'll have a go and try to set a respectable score.

It's a high quality stick. It's just, from what I have been finding out from researching the web, is that there is no perfect stick for both fighting games and shooters, there is always some tradeoff.
@masterLEON Those top two scores are fantastic. I still think I could hit one more level myself, but it just wasn't happening at all last week. I'm happy to have collected my second podium though.
@CaffeinatedGamer I know what you mean. Not every week/game is gonna click. Just like me and Tengai.
Now, kicking off Galaga '88 with, 149,510.
Also, a bit of cleanup on my part. I just uploaded my Dragon Blaze run, then I went back and uploaded Sengoku 3 and Strikers 1945, as I've been slacking, LOL. That leaves Moon Patrol and Tengai from the weeks I was away from my computer. For Moon Patrol, I actually have a run recorded, but it's a bit behind my current score, so I'll have to try for a new one at some point. And I'll have to go back to Tengai sometime later as I have no footage at all, but I want it to be good.
@masterLEON Excellent, I always enjoy watching your play through videos. Especially keen to see how you dispatch the SENGOKU 3 boss quickly. Thanks for the effort and time you take to upload these 👍
