So tonight I bought Tengai for the weekly challenge, and Super Sidekicks.
Tengai of course is amazing, I look forward to learning it
I'd been holding off on Super Sidekicks but wanted an arcade title that was different to my diet of shmups and fighters. I've been tempted for a while as I loved it back then but know it's limited. I know the other games in the series are probably better, but this is the one I remember playing a lot in the arcades. And it's surprised me! I know it's probably terrible as a footy game with no fouls to speak of and chaotic play, but I've had half an hour of real fun playing it. It's just pure nostalgia for me. So for me it's 9/10, if you never played it I bet it's closer to 5/10.
There's still the wow factor for me of owning perfect versions of all these games that were (and are) so expensive!
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge FIFA fan and the two can't compare, but I can see me having fun in the pub with mates with this
@monkeyspasm I really like the SUPER SIDEKICKS series but have been somewhat spoiled in that emulation has allowed me to revisit all of them and the first (despite my nostalgia goggles) is most definitely the weakest in my opinion. But of course it does still provide enjoyable, immediate arcade fun kickabout.
Nice to hear how much fun you are having with it.
Will buy SUPER SIDEKICKS 2 or any of the later entries as soon as they hit the Switch eShop.
@meppi64 Woo! I hope you find the S with FH3+Hot Wheels! The Hot Wheels DLC really is incredibly fun to play. It's so great.
I picked up Dragon Blaze the other day before getting Tengai and loved the little bit I played. But once I saw Tengai was this week's challenge I had to get that too and jump right in. I guess I'll have to wait until next week to play more Dragon Blaze.
@monkeyspasm Super Sidekicks is great. Like you, I used to play it a lot in the arcades back in the day. It was the 10p machine and was always me and my mate's first choice when the Sega Rally/Daytona machine was taken or those days we were skint. Over Top I wouldn't bother with. I'm a big fan of these kind of racers but this one just isn't good. I've gave it a go a few times to see if I could warm to it but nope. I'll definitely get Neo Drift Out when it comes though.
@CaffeinatedGamer
I hope so too! There's still a deal online for a 500GB one with Middel Earth Shadow of war fro 179€ and a 1TB one with Forza + Hot Wheels or AC Origins + Rainbow Six Siege for 229€, but those aren't as good.
Especially since I don't care for Rainbow Six or AC actually. Only played Black Flag for a little but and found it overly clumsy and just not fun. :-/
Never tried a AC after that.
Already ordered Halo 5 and Master Chief collection, Halo Wars 2, Gears 1 and 4, Sunset Overdrive for 8€!, Zombie Army Trilogy (love that game), Sleepy Doggie (love this one as well ), Rare Replay, Killer Instinct, Horizon 2, Forza 5, and I'm planning on picking up Forza 7 for 25€ when I get my system.
I don't really mind it being 500GB since I'll just end up plugging in a 4TB external HDD anyway. Gotta remember to import Ori from videogamesplus soon as well.
Really pleasantly surprised just how cheap some of these games are! Only payed more than 20€ for Master Chief and Gears 4, all the others were under it, some 8 and 12€ and all brand new!
Oh, and I didn't get the friends request, so I sent you one instead.
@monkeyspasm Yeah if Cave games would come to the system it would immediately shoot up to one of the best systems ever for me. No doubt about that.
Since we're seeing such a resurgence of shoot em ups and they are doing well, that might actually happen though. In the same way that the 360 became the shoot em up system last gen, despite it not selling well at all in Japan. It just needs to get the reputation that the hardcore shoot em up fans are all on board and that will draw many companies in.
Actually, Nintendo would probably have to try and make a deal with Cave as that's how we got all those 360 shooters. MS actually went out of their way to get those on the system if you can believe it.
So sad that the guys who were in charge at the start of this gen screwed all of that up. Glad most of them are gone, but the damage seems to have been done. :-/
Ever tried Power Spikes 2 btw?
I had not played a volleyball game since Spike V-Ball and Beach Spikers before this one, and I was surprised at how fun it is. Wish I would play it against others. Multiplayer would make it even better.
@meppi64 Dude, that's fantastic! Those are all amazing games! I'm not the biggest Gears fan, but Gears 4 is a ton of fun. You also can't go wrong with Halo and Forza! I still can't get enough of Forza 7. It's probably my most played and consistently played game over the past 6 months.
Ori is a must too, and also check out ReCore to see if you are interested. ReCore when I played it had so many problems, including the story never really fully developing, but still the base gameplay was a lot of fun.
@Lroy Bad Dudes has video capture so I went through the various display options it has so you can see them. Shame it doesn't have any in game settings like setting continues, lives, difficulty etc. Setting the amount of continues is the main one I'd want.
@OorWullie Thanks for doing that buddy. The option you had it on first, actually looked better than I was expecting. The screenshots on the eShop and that I've seen on this site looked a little rough. Good to know it actually looks alright on Switch itself.
No game settings seems a bit lazy. I assume you just credit feed on this one then?

@meppi64 I've only ever seen POWER SPIKES II after it landed on the Switch eShop. Not picked it up as I was given the impression it wasn't very good. I may be mixing it up with POWER SPIKES 1. Did that one also come to Neo-Geo? Anyway, I've a vague sense that one of these games was named worst Neo Geo title or something. Again, I may be misremembering but essentially it was just a case similar to PUZZLED aka JOY JOY KID where I'd only ever been given the sense it had bad press. Good hear it shapes up better than that 👍

@CaffeinatedGamer I really loved Gears 1despite it being very dark and a bit messy. It just had something special. Don't know how to explain, so that Gears 1 remake for 12€ has me really interested. Loved Gears 2 as well. 3 was ok (loved horde though) and I haven't played Judgement yet.
It's been a while since I played through all the Halo's. 1 and ODST are still my favourite. Didn't like 2 much on the old system so I never finished it. Interested how it compares nowadays with the remake it got like Halo 1.
Been a while since I played any Forza. I just remember getting into 3 or 4 and how surprised I was about the game being just a ton more fun to play that GT (for me). That one feels way to sterile for me, at least the racing does. Kinda weird. I'm someone who needs a racing game to "feel" right, which is why I'm very peculiar about them. Sega Rally 1, Ferarri 355 Challenge, PGR and Metropolis, Driveclub, Forza and Horizon, Dirt. Those are the ones I really like. Really looking forward to getting to play these two series again. Really looking forward to OnRush as well by the people who did DriveClub and MotorStorm. Looks a bit like a new take on ExciteTruck, so that certainly has my attention as that one was my favourite Wii racer.
@Lroy You might want to play it a bit on an emulator first to make sure because it's a bit basic.
And I can't really compare it to those other two games I names since I played those weeks and months on end in multiplayer. So it's hard for me to say how deep Power Spikes goes from playing the CPU a bit.
Personally, I certainly would recommend it, especially if you are going to be doing some multiplayer.

@meppi64 If you have a wheel, Assetto Corsa is a sim but has an amazing 'feel' to it. It's insane and throaty in the faster cars. Personally I find the handling better than Project Cars, but I still like that game. I preferred the first PC.
Forza 5, 6 and 7 are all great on a pad, and all have a great feel to them, I know exactly what you mean. F1 is great on a pad too, and F1 2017 is the best yet, although I still don't think the handling and sense of the tires being on the track is as good as other games, it may just be me. I have a lot of fun with it though.
Daytona is backwards compatible Split Second is too, which is also a superb arcade racer.
@monkeyspasm Haven't tried Arsetto Corsa yet. Heard some good as well as bad things about it when it came out, but somehow never looked deeper into it.
Might have to give it a go if there's a demo of it, but they hardly seem to do that anymore...
Never played Project Cars either. It just didn't have that hook to draw me in for some reason.
I don't have a wheel though, so a regular controller will have to do.
Got Daytona on XBLA, sadly I missed out on Outrun, even though I have it on PS3. Wish I got my 360 early enough to pick it up...
Got Split/Second though. Absolutely love that game, even moreso than Blur, which I also had a ton of fun with. So sad to see all those great racing game developers go down like that.
WipEout, DriveClub, PGR. All of them gone due to greed and mismanagement of their publishers.
