I didn't see a thread about this, maybe it belongs in Switch VC?

King of Fighters 98 has been confirmed by the publisher Hamster Corp to be arriving worldwide in March with 4 more Neo Geo games (Waku Waku 7, Shock Troopers, World Heroes Perfect and Metal Slug 3) to follow and even more to come.

One of my big wishes for Wii U was to see the VC Arcade expand and evolve but it obviously never happened,so this is great news.If the Switch receives anywhere near the support the other console have had I'll be a happy man.Maybe if it's a success it'll convince Sega to bring some their own classics to Switch.

@OorWullie As awesome as this all sounds, I hope it will include arcade games from publishers like Sega, Data East, Capcom etc and not just Neo Geo titles.

NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHED! Regular opinion articles, retro game reviews and impression pieces on new games! ENGAGE VG: EngageVG.com

OorWullie

@FragRed On the other consoles,so far there's games from

Konami
Taito
Tecmo
Technลs Japan
Nihon Bussan
Data East
Sunsoft
Jaleco
UPL
Escape
SNK

No Sega or Capcom unfortunately but at least we have Ultra SF 2 and the announcement last year that Capcom are looking to revive some of their old IP's.Maybe that will include VC Arcade releases too. With the Arcade Archives,USF 2,Bomberman,Puyo Puyo Tetris,Sonic Mania,Yooka Laylee etc this is shaping up to be quite a console for an older gamer like myself.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF- that's all of them. All of better (if not best) Neo Geo games that I never got for the VC (granted, 1 or 2 never arrived on it, but hey). This is gonna be a bit of a tough wait now, but damn...if you love fighting games and have never experienced KOF'98, I highly recommend giving it a go.

Hamster on bringing Arcade Archives to Switch, more games planned

This week, Famitsu provides yet another feature on Switch. The magazine interviews Satoshi Hamada from Hamster about the companyโ€™s Arcade Archives plans and more.

Hamster received requests from fans to bring the Arcade Archive series to portable devices. Since Switch acts as a handheld in addition to a console, they thought this would fulfill these wishes.

The Arcade Archive series has a feature to rotate the screen to play vertically-displayed arcade games. With Switch, you can easily stand the display vertically, so he think itโ€™ll well fit for the system.

Programmers have said that itโ€™s easier to port on Switch than expected. Hamda thought that coding around the Joy-Con might be peculiar, but doing so isnโ€™t actually that difficult. Speaking only to titles currently in development, the hardware specs on Switch are sufficient. Hamada has a good impression about the device as a result.

Hamada thought about implementing the Joy-Con steering wheel for arcade racing games, but an actual steering controller is better. Currently Hamster is collaborating with HORI to make their arcade stick capable to play the Arcade Archive series. Also, they are discussing possibility of releasing unique arcade sticks with control panels such as twin levers, track ball, and a loop lever.

Note that the arcade stick is not announced for Switch, so he might be talking about the PlayStation 4. Itโ€™s still vague as to whether these special controllers will also come to Switch or not.

Hamster is now trying to release new titles for Arcade Archive every week, and Hamada thinks it would be nice for fans if they can find new titles when they visit the eShop on a weekly basis. But this is just their target and there might be a week they canโ€™t release new title for some reason. The dev team is trying hard to achieve this.

Currently they are only announcing five Neo Geo titles from the Arcade Archives and havenโ€™t announced the (standard) Arcade Archives series. They are currently focusing on keeping the series on track with continuous releases of Neo Geo Arcade Archives. However, they will definitely bring (standard) Arcade Archives in the future.

Considering its internal storage size, the Switch version has a lower file size compared to other platforms. It was originally 600 MB in average, but the Switch version is planned to be reduced to 200 MB.

Hamada also claimed that on Switch, it is easy to distribute downloadable titles globally.

Other than Arcade Archives, Hamster also wants to bring over the Nikoli puzzles series, including Sudoku. They are already talking about it with Nikoli, so they probably will be able to announce something soon.

Finally, there are actually some projects planned aside from Arcade Archives and Nikoli, but Hamster canโ€™t announce them yet.

I hope they can release some Puzzle Bobble / Bust A Move game. Definitely getting Metal Slug 3. I too wish they had expanded Arcade VC on Wii U. I can't believe how lackluster Wii U VC was. Hopefully they managed to renew a bunch of rights from the Wii VC.

Oh man I haven't played Metal Slug in years, definitely a purchase for me.

What could be a good idea is if Sega released some of there arcade racers, and used the HD rumble as faux force feedback.

The only game I'm reeeeaaaaalllly looking forward to is Mr. Goemon. It's pretty much the only Goemon game I'm missing still, and now my collection will be complete Okay, maybe not, I'm missing the Goemon LCD game, but that's like saying your Zelda collection isn't complete because you don't have the Zelda Game & Watch. Except the Goemon one is much, much harder to find.

LuckyLand

I've bought World heroes perfect and Metal Slug 3.
I really like World heroes perfect, for Metal Slug I'm not the biggest fan out there but I'm fairly enjoying it.
I hope to see many retrogames (as well as new games of course!) on the Switch. I have bought Sonic 1 for every console I have (and Steam too!) and I'll buy it as soon as possible on the Switch too.
The same goes for Golden Axe, Chronicles of Mystara, Super Castlevania 4, Demon's crest and many others

Talking about a game a little bit more recent I would like a lot a remake of Soul Calibur 3 which was on Playstation 2 and was very exciting and adfictive imho

According to Wikipedia, the next 4 Neo Geo games are

Super Sidekicks
Aero Fighters 2
King of the Fighters 2000
Fatal Fury Special

So far I've bought Blazing Star,Neo turf Masters,KotF 98,Shock Troopers 2 and Last Resort.I'd recommend them all but Shock Troopers 2 the least, the slowdown can be really bad and has caused me a few deaths.Haven't tried Last Resort yet though.

According to Wikipedia, the next batch of Neo Geo games to be released are

Blue's Journey
Magician Lord
Puzzled
Spinmaster
Zed Blade
Art of Fighting

A pretty unremarkable set of titles there.I had hoped for some Baseball Stars,Pulstar and more Super Sidekicks.Hopefully the plan is to port every single Neo Geo game possible, mediocre titles included.

Edit: Just checked out some of the games,Spinmaster looks very nice graphically,It seems to be an action platformer where you're armed with a Yo-yo.It's made by Data East, the devs behind Joe & Mac,which I loved.Blue's Journey is a platformer and while it might not be a classic,it's nice to finally have a traditional platformer on Switch.Magician Lord I'm not too familiar with but I remember it being on Wii VC and compared to Ghouls and Ghosts.Puzzled I've only looked at some screenshots but it doesn't look up to much.Zed Blade I only had a brief look at some screenshots but it looks like a side scrolling shoot-em-up.Someone was telling me the other day they hope to see Zed Blade 2,so maybe the original is a good game to.I'll do some more research on them later when I have time.

Edit, Just read that Art of Fighting is also coming. I didn't include that as I thought it had released already.

I think World Heroes was also on the coming-soon-list and appeared on other platforms already.
I guess it will come to Switch soon, even though they missed to announce it in the batch of upcoming Neo Geo Arcade games.

@SKTTR Yep,World Heroes 1 and 2 are already on the other platforms.Switch only has WH Perfect so far.I think that was a Switch launch game?I've never actually played any of the series,I think there's 4 in all.

So far Switch has 11 games that are exclusive to it,while the other platforms have around the same amount of games that are yet to come to Switch but they've been receiving them since last year. They're obviously selling really well on Switch.
