Just in the last year i find myself caring less and less about upcoming switch releases. Maybe I'm just too afraid to try new games and i stick to known brands more than anything else. The eshop seems to get flooded with so much stuff I'm either unfamiliar with or just plain never heard of. the last game i think i even had a passing interest in was Immortals phoenix rising and that just looks like too much of a been there done that kinda thing.
Plus all these Wii U ports which are great for newcomers but i played those years ago.
So anyway what's the last switch game that came out where you were like OMG i must have that game!?
Give me some ideas of really good stuff that might have went under my radar or that is coming soon.
I am looking forward to No more heroes 3 but if we don't get some really cool announcements soon my switch is gonna start collecting dust. HELP!

The main problem is that Covid blew out the schedules of pretty much the entire games industry. You can see this across all platforms, not just the Switch.
Games usually get finished off by "crunch", which is everyone coming into the office and working until they drop, possibly for months on end. That's not a great practice at the best of times, and a really bad idea right now unless you're prepared to run the risk of your entire studio catching it at once.
Since indie games are typically made by small teams working from home, they're a lot less affected by this.

Pacman 99. As I've said before, anything that reminds me of Championship Edition is worth being excited about. Granted, getting it for free obviously helped a lot but there's a reasonable chance I'll buy the actual paid content at some point anyway.
Bowser's Fury also is borderline that, the fact that its a shorter game as a bonus to a game I already own is the only reason I do not own it right now. I already did get Cyber Shadow, which came out around the same time.
If I was rich I'd also immediately have gotten that Plants vs Zombies game. Those Garden Warfare spinoff games have always really interested me a lot. But...limited money, what can you do?
So that's four games, off the top of my head, without thinking further of whatever 20 cool indies came out last month (I knew a cool thing came out the day of the indie direct, but I had to look it up to remember which one). Also from the perspective of someone not even interested in Bravely Default or Monster Hunter.
@Zeldafan79 The last Switch game that is a must have is Monster Hunter Rise and (for me personally) Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning
But there are just so many games to play on the Switch. It is true that modern releases of AAA budget games will not be on the Switch but as I said there is just too much to play right now.
Also I might feel like that because I love re-releases!
I mainly play indie games and smaller stuff on Switch these days anyways. I don't have the time nor the interest in big budget AAA games these days, hence I do not have an XB or PS, and there are a lot of smaller games on Switch that scratch a certain itch.
Currently I have been enjoying For the King, got back into Kingdom: Two Crowns a bit, and restarted playing Moon Hunters with my kids. So mostly games that harken back to the MS-DOS age of PC gaming, come to think of it, haha.
@Zuljaras
Yeah there's no shortage of games it's just so much of it is either indie games I'm not sure about or those re-releases. I'm starting to feel like the old guy who isn't hip to the gaming scene anymore. I'm still hanging on to those old franchises and new stuff makes me hesitate. I'm like what's this Ori and the will of the whatever? Eh screw it I'll play some old Snes game instead. Ah nostalgia!

I've still been playing my Switch as much as ever (pretty sure I've played at least a few hours every single day since launch) and I never have any shortage of games that I want to play. Occasionally there'll be a few weeks here and there that not much of interest to me releases but I just use that chance to jump into one or two of the many games in my backlog that I want to check out.
Not really, we know some great games are right around the corner: New Pokemon Snap, Rune Factory 5, Mario Golf, and
I'd bet good money BOTW2 is coming by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Monster Hunter Rise just dropped, Bowser's Fury was phenomenal (albeit short), and I'm totally down for a second time around with Skyward Sword HD.
As pointed out, we just had Monster Hunter Rise, and Bravely Default 2 in the not-so-distant past. Then there's Persona 5 Strikers - which, admittedly, is a bit more niche - but has great appeal to fans of the genre/series. And New Pokemon Snap on the way. Plus keep in mind that it's still early in the year, which is never a particularly busy time for game releases.
But personally I'm not even bothered about new games at the moment. Spring/summer is a great time to pick up my backlog - I probably have enough Switch games to never have to touch another console for years.
I do feel Nintendo has been playing it quite safe with the majority of their first-party games from 2018 onwards. The biggest exceptions to that are peripheral-based games (Labo, Ring Fit, Mario Kart Live) which I really like conceptually but I don't have the money or space to buy all of them. There's also just been fewer Nintendo games released lately, which is probably at least partly due to covid.
That being said, there's an insane number of great games to play on the Switch when you take third parties into account, especially indies. Even if Nintendo never released another game on the Switch there'd be enough existing games to keep me going for years, decades even. And it's only two months until E3 so hopefully there'll be some good Nintendo announcements then.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
There are definitely no shortage of smaller indie titles available on the switch and some of them are pretty great.
Saying that you're afraid to try new games really seems to be the sticking point here. Do you watch many review channels on YouTube and the likes? I normally watch the likes of SwitchUp and a few others that tend to cover interesting new weekly releases, the best games on sale and then full review videos. They might be a helpful stepping stone to trying something new so you won't be going in blind
@Slowdive I wouldn't say there's been a lack of Ninty games, in the last 6 months (Nov-Apr) there's been Hyrule Warriors, Pokemon Snap, Mario 3D World, A-Train, Bravely Default (Ninty published it). Also in a more general sense to the topic a big third party exclusive in Monster Hunter Rise plus various high profile indies/third parties games like Apex Legends, Fez, Little Nightmares II, Crash Bandicoot 4, Among Us, Plants vs. Zombies etc have come too in this time frame.
I'm set for a while to be honest. This year I've bought DOOM Eternal, 3D World, Persona 5 Strikers and Scott Pilgrim already plus I've got Pokemon Snap, Shin Megami Tensei 3, Zelda Skyward Sword on pre-order (with my eye on a couple more) and I've stocked up on indies during the recent sales with Limbo, Inside, Forgotton Anne, My Friend Pedro and Shantae raring to go.
@Slowdive Only 3D World is a port and even then it added a decent amount of extra orginal content to it, the rest are new Ninty published games. Funnily enough Bravely Default, Hyrule Warriors and Pokemon Snap all sell about the same or more than the Metroid games. It's only really the NES and first Prime game that sold an impressive number and even then those two were still short of what Hyrule Warrios AOC sold. ;p
I can understand your feeling as in the last year I did not buy more than 6/8 games on switch although a big reason is that I got a gaming PC biggining of last year therefore I am getting some good old games I missed or somethings from the past I used to play a lot.
As it looks bravely default and Monster Hunter are not your thing I will suggest you try Hades (easily best game of 2020 for me)
First party wise, things have been quiet since Paper Mario TOK. It may look like Nintendo is just coasting on the Switch's success, but COVID has slowed software development across the industry. Other than that, I find it difficult to agree the Switch is in a slump while the hardware continues to break records in sales and has over 5,000 games to play.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,529 games (as of November 20th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 3 games (as of November 23rd, 2025)
Pretty much how I feel for the most part. Last major game I played was Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and that was after not really enjoying Nintendo's other output last year (such as Animal Crossing; I just can't get into it for too long without being bored). Finished it 100% and everything. I think I enjoyed the original more, and I don't feel the need to buy the DLC at present. I think the biggest problem for me is that like Breath of the Wild, it didn't tell the story that I wanted to hear.
After that, the games either haven't interested me or I could (and have) played them elsewhere. I would recommend P5 Strikers, but even that, I feel like you would need to play Persona 5 first to get the best experience. I do have a copy on Switch, but only to show support for the series on Switch; I played through the game on PS4.
Hades is not bad. Can't say I am a big fan of rogue-likes myself (and heck it feels like lots of indies are trying to be this at the moment), but it does seem enjoyable to play, and the art style is fantastic. I have not had a successful run yet myself. Got to the end to be defeated at the last obstacle.
Beyond that, not sure what to really recommend. I hope your search is fruitful.
It almost feels like switch is already on it's last legs. We know we got BOTW 2 coming out but it's all quiet on the western front about any new first party games other than that. We need something, anything on Bayonetta 3 or Metroid prime 4. At this point we might as well forget about those until Nintendos next system. It's getting a little late for switch. Maybe I'll feel different after E3 but right now it's looking grim.
