I started with cherries but got some oranges in the mail this morning, which I immediately planted, so I have my first non-native fruit trees already. The early days seem less tedious and more engaging than previous games in the series, which is fun. It's still a casual, laid back experience, but I don't feel like I'm being held back as much by arbitrary gating.
Played a bit docked on my 80" television, and it is STUNNING! Everything is so crisp and detailed! My previous exposure to Animal Crossing was Wild World and New Leaf, so seeing it on the "big" screen for the first time was a revelation.
Visited a mystery island which had some palm trees, so I harvested the coconuts and planted those on my home turf.
I like the new camera controls. The top down perspective is perfect for scouting the water looking for fish.
Interior decorating is SO easy. No more using your character to tediously drag furniture around the room!
By the way, named my island Grey Haven. It's named after the Elven port city from The Lord Of The Rings (actually "Grey Havens", but couldn't include the S because of the character limit). I considered going with the Elven name "Mithlond" but liked the sound of "Grey Haven" better.
All I see on my Twitter timeline is Animal Crossing and I feel so sad that I don't have enough money for the game. This is definitely #1 on my wish list right now
I just visited the island of one of the members here (don’t know the NL ID) and it worked very smoothly! Great feature! Thanks for letting me visit, J!
Balloons seem to be a lot more frequent. In previous games, I only saw them a few times a week. In New Horizons, I see them several times a day! I've gotten some very nice items from them, too, so it's definitely worth it to shoot them down.
how is the local multiplayer...does each person have their own tent and items...or is it the 'first' person to get the wood and materials for that day?

Both. You have your own tent and items. But you all live on the same island. First come, first serve. Kids have been angry at each other for all the Animal Crossing item hoarding going on.

I can see how that could cause familial conflicts, but I suppose it's a necessary mechanic to prevent one person from playing multiple villagers and accelerating the pace of the game.
For the record, since I know I was asking too: You can find different fruit on the random islands!
It's just very uncommon. I found a whole island full of apples on like my 7th or 8th island run. My native fruit are pears and my present from in-game mom was oranges!

Really enjoying this game so far. Only Day 2 but I really like the emphasis on customization and creativity this time around.
By the way everyone, I think we should reserve this space for general comments on the game. There is Switch Friend Code exchange thread already and you can post that information in there.
Added: Or someone could make a code exchange thread specifically for New Horizons like they already have for New Leaf.
I guess I didn't pay close enough attention to the limitations. I started on my Switch Lite and between yesterday and today, have racked up maybe 15 hours. I just realized that it's stuck on my Lite now, I can't change over to my OG Switch on the TV. Boooo.
It's my first AC and I really love this game! I've spent so many hours in these two days and can't stop discovering things. When I play I open the gates for my island but I don't have many friends on Switch. Feel free to add me, I have the FC in my signature.
I'm playing slowly, enjoying every little thing I can do. I visited a random island yesterday and a duck is supposed to come to live to my island soon. I've learnt how to plant different fruit trees, and now I have cherries, coconuts and pears!
