I think flowers have an increased chance of creating a new flower if a villager waters it compared to when the player waters it. On multiple occasions have seen a villager water one in a patch and even though I watered the entire patch later, only that one seemed to create another. Has anyone else seen something similar?

@SonicMos
Do you know how you got?

Right now I'm trying to cross bread blue and red together and then using those reds to try for purple.

This is mostly pointless, but I found what I think is a new mechanic to New Horizons: When the player character makes a villager angry with net whacking or shoving, after talking to them several times, the player character apologizes and the villager goes back to normal. I don't think that happened in New Leaf.

Which makes some sense, my little sister always felt really bad about making the villagers angry when she was little. She used to hate it when I tormented Mr. Resetti in City Folk because she felt bad for him.

They also made it so when villagers make each other angry, the angry villager will complain about the villager who made them angry. Same with sad villagers, they'll explain why they're sad.

I also found that the game also remembers that a villager gifted you an item and has custom dialogue if you give that item back to the villager. They take the gift as normal, but have a line about the item seeming familiar. That might have been in New Leaf, but I don't remember it happening and I played that game a lot. (There was less incentive to send gifts in New Leaf though compared to previous games because the island minigames were the easiest way to get foreign fruit single player, not villager gifts.) I haven't tested whether villagers respond differently to getting items they gifted you through the mail - I should do that.

@Lard_Bucket I haven't bothered to water my flowers and I'm still getting hybrids. However I have a villager (Cranston) who waters all the flowers - so maybe even him watering them will help to produce hybrids?

I tried to search but came up empty handed, how is the couch coop on this game? Looking for something to play with my daughter. Does it take away from the game at all to have 2-3 people playing?

I found it pretty aggravating, to be honest. Trying to play with my two kids was not much fun. For one thing, only one person can really do anything. Nobody but the party leader can access their inventory or interact with the villagers. Everybody can still fish, catch bugs, and pick up items, but if you're not the party leader, it's added to the box in Resident Services, and you have to collect it later. There's also the problem that the camera will shift around in an attempt to keep all players in view, which is frustrating if you're trying to fish or catch a bug, and suddenly you can't see your quarry because the camera moved.

To me it really feels like a last-minute addition that wasn't given a lot of time or attention by the developers. It strikes me as one of those things that was added simply so they could check off another box on the feature list. It really could have made a great couch co-op experience if everybody had full control, and if it used something like the brilliant dynamic split-screen from the LEGO games.

I've noticed that as well. Talked to one of my villagers who was in a huff, and he told me what was bugging him. It was a fun little detail. I also accidentally gave a villager an item he had given me, and I got the line about "This looks oddly familiar."

As for whacking villagers with the net, I've gotten in the habit of stowing the net before trying to talk to them, because it's too easy to whack them by mistake!

@Pink_Yoshi Rain and villagers watering flowers can definitely create hybrids if the correct flowers are within range

Call me stupid but I hate upsetting my villagers, it makes me feel bad, ha ha, but I'm the same irl, I hate anyone being annoyed with me and I'd feel terrible forever if I hurt someone's feelings!

@Pink_Yoshi I finally gave up on ignoring Lopez and Gigi. 🙄 Wasn’t working and I felt kind of bad. Still want them to move, but yeah...

@Blaze420
Cool but most guides have at least a few different ways for the hybrids. This is the first time I've seen blue and blue pansys for purple. I had blue together since the beginning for peacock butterflies and still haven't seen a purple pansy.

@Blaze420 The guide that I was following said the White and Orange roses can make the Hybrid Red rose. It would be terrible in my large group of red roses that I thought were special are not.

Hmm I had blue flowers (that's my rare flower island) together since the beginning and still no purple

@Pink_Yoshi It's not stupid, you just play the game differently than I do. I think the developers intend for the player to become attached to the villagers.

But no, reporting to Isabelle only removes customized traits from that villager. Say someone gives a villager an inappropriate pattern or catchphrase, you can reset their clothes or catchphrase.

I have been trying to understand the fish spawn mechanics recently. We can always use bait but the fishing tournament got me thinking of making a more optimized route. At the moment I think that only 1 fish can spawn per grid block. I'm sure many of you have noticed that a pond will often have no fish in it. I believe this is due to another water source within the same grid competing with the pond for a fish spawn. If you make 2 ponds next to each other in the same grid it seems impossible for both ponds to have a fish.

@SonicMos @Dodger I didn't realise that, I haven't complained to Isabelle about a villager yet. When I played New Leaf sometimes my villagers would announce they were thinking of leaving then you could either persuade them to stay or get them to leave, does New Horizons not do that?

If I get a villager in my campsite who I don't like can I get them to leave again if I just don't speak to Tom Nook about finding them a plot?

BenAV

One of my villagers is currently making a purple windflower crown DIY if anyone wants one. My gates are currently open to friends.
Edit: Stopped now, that was quick.
