Decided to look up the wiki, and...uh, yeah.

"Blue Moon is modeled after the real world nation of Russia, as well as the Soviet Union."

Yes, Blue Moon is basically Russia but they're not really the bad guys in the games. The truth is far more complicated than that.

That said, I can forgive Nintendo as the optics don't look great. There are far bigger issues at play here than the delayed release of a video game too.

The two Blue Moon COs that invade Orange Star weren't even native Blue Moon residents. They defected from Orange Star. So unless the Russia/Ukraine conflict started because of a few Ukrainians that defected to Russia (and a space alien that likes to conquer), it's got less in common with Advance Wars than the public is led to believe.

Retro gaming is too damn expensive.

jump

@SnackPop Actually the conflict does stem from the DPR which is an Ukraine terrorist/militia group that wants to rejoin Russia.

@chipia @kkslider5552000 They also added online multiplayer, in addition to remaking everything. So even with the same plot, it's pretty much a brand new set of games.

When this remake was announced I think I said I didn't see much point in buying it when I could get both the original games on Wii U for a fraction of the cost. Having seen more of the game I've changed my mind on that, it does seem worth buying, but it's kind of funny/sad that there's now a possibility the Wii U eShop will be dead by the time this comes out. If that does happen I'm sure someone will try and claim that was Nintendo's real motive for delaying it.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

Did they actually remake "everything"? My impression is they only remade the graphics and audio. The gameplay and maps seem to be the same old ones.

@chipia It doesn't work like that, it's effectively building a new game from the ground up.

I mean if they did everything from the ground up, they would also make new gameplay and level design documents, but they apparently just reused the old ones. For comparison, Resident Evil 2 remake actually revamped level designs, enemy types and weapons so they actually had to create everything again, that is including game design documents!

@chipia There's alot more work going into a developing a game than just creating a document for it.

The Switch is a different console and the game is made by a different team with a different engine with entirely new assets. The fact that large chunks of the creative aspect are already there to recreate does not necessarily make a huge difference if a bug appears.

Sometimes people will say a game is "remade from the ground up" compared to more basic remasters, and "from the ground up" sums up the challenges of doing a good remake.

The Reboot Camp versions are offering new graphics and remade music, but as far as gameplay is concerned, they're exactly the same as the originals. No new missions. No new COs. No new units. No new buildings or gimmicks.

Online multiplayer is a massive new addition so that was probably why the first delay (December 2021 to April 2022) happened.

Regarding the person on the internet who played the game for a short while: If she felt sorry because of the refund, just give it to Ukraine...but keep the game! Because you probably never get the chance to play it again. This will never get released, not as long as the war is going on (wich could take years and years).

...This game isn't even on the Coming Soon section anymore...T.T

I mean, I have plenty of games to go through due to gift money, but...ugh...I was hoping to be playing this by now. I didn't play much of the original games (especially the sequel, don't think I've even played that one at all, lol), so, yeah.

@Henmii Nintendo will likely wait a few months for this to stop dominating the news cycle and then announce a new release date. They're not going to can a complete game just because a war is happening somewhere in the world.

@Joeynator3000 I've never played AW2 either, so that'll also be new for me. Finished the first game, dabbled with Dual Strike, and then 100%ed Days of Ruin (which is easily the best entry in the series I've played)

Yeah I played the first game, but I don't think I got that far, or remember much. Dual Strike was one of my favorite games, though. A lot of people said it had balance issues and stuff (Stealth Fighters...lol), but I kinda enjoyed all the chaos and stuff, I also liked controlling 2 COs at once.

As for Days, I didn't care for it too much, I dunno...
...Isabella was cute. xD

Dude, it became the 2nd most popular story, at best, within a month because a celebrity slapped another celebrity. It's not that unlikely.
