Thinking back at that one dual-screen patent from 2023 and now it leads me wondering: What if the top USB-C port is for something like a dual-screen attachment similar to that device in the patent?
This could actually help for if they rerelease DS and 3DS games, especially if they bring those to Nintendo Switch Online. Could also be for more depending on where they go with it.
@Novamii That is what I had in mind for April, back with the Switch 1 January 2017 presentation they started with a big segment on hardware and then transitioned into games after the ice cubes demonstration for HD Rumble.
Considering the hands-on events start 2 days after the Direct, the only way they'd be able to have the Direct only be hardware is if everything 1st party is crossgen and gets announced in a theoretical February Switch 1 general Direct meanwhile 3rd parties announce their stuff randomly over the next few months. 1st party Switch 1 support being limited after Switch 2 launch feels more likely than that.
I don't think the leaks hurt Switch 2's appeal any, but man did they hurt everyone's reaction videos. I checked a couple out and they are all boring as hell. "Ok, we knew that." "Ok." "Ok, the leak was real." "Ok." etc etc.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@GrailUK Yeah, I didn't bother watching reaction videos for that reason. tbh, I think I prefer that to the alternative if there were no leaks — the 'how could Nintendo do something so boring' screaming would have been much worse if we didn't already all know what to expect.
You know what I was thinking? Retail cards for Switch 2 in the US (like eShop currency, full game downloads, Nintendo Switch Online, DLC, etc) should include text in Spanish alongside English. This comes from two things:
1. Those types of cards having text in English and French in Canada
2. US covers for first party games already having text in English and Spanish since Nintendo Switch (and since we’re gonna see this continue into Nintendo Switch 2 and beyond, I figured the US retail cards might as well include text in English and Spanish too)
Basically the front now saying “For use on Nintendo systems/Para uso exclusivo en consolas de Nintendo,” but it would be English text on top, Spanish text underneath, and then any info on the back is in English on the left, Spanish on the right, based on what the Canadian cards do (English on the left, French on the right).
The reason I also said it as “on Nintendo systems” is to refer to both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 (their logos on the back of the card). Easier to say that than to list which specific consoles on front.
@RedWolf I think the Switch 2 Direct on April 2 will disclose some of the other information we’re still wondering, like release date, price, and when preorders will start and how they’ll work.
@MrCarlos46 Let's all hope it's a price point we can all afford as if they want Family buyin then going too high will price them out and they will wait out the purchase. This isn't something Nintendo wants to do.
@MrCarlos46 I think Nintendo Prime during a PodCast they eluded to if I they were the Podcast that it was 5nm not 8 nm.
In the case the Switch 2 still only has black and white themes despite having more resources to work with especially on the OS, they should at least rename them to Dark Mode and Light Mode.
It occurs to me that I don't think Nintendo ever technically said Switch 2 was going to launch in 2025 until this week's financial meetings. It was obvious... but good to get verification 😆
@MrCarlos46 Oh, nevermind then. I forgot the reveal trailer actually had information.
One interesting thing from the financial Q&A is they said they would decide how many Switch 2s to make based on the reaction to the April 2 direct and the hands-on event. That doesn't make it sound like Switch 2 is coming out super soon after the direct.
On the other hand they also admitted (indirectly) to having a bunch of Switch 2-related inventory.

If the April 2 Direct is just for the hardware itself with the launch games having their own Direct later, the chances of the Switch 2 coming out before the end of June are pretty low. In fact, the release may not be until the second half of 2025 (in September or November) if that’s where things go.
Oof. Any release date after june is gonna be tough for me. Im just counting the days till april 2nd, and thats just for the Direct, so waiting more than june for the console itself, is gonna be hell.
It's wishful thinking that the console launches the day after all the hands on events lol. I mean, there will be loads of internet buzz surrounding the events. I'm expecting a release between October and November and if it releases any earlier I'll be super happy. But I'm not going to hope it's June (Summer? The quiet months for the industry? Who knows, mayne it genuinely doesn't matter when they release it, but traditionally, summer is quiet.) and set myself up for disappointment lol.
