@skywake October would've been such a good time for announcement. There was no huge Direct close by, it would've avoided a ton of the leaks, and it probably would have good spacing before the console releases.
Anyways, regarding the Switch’s themes, here’s what I thought happened: Nintendo initially wanted to bring more themes to the Switch apart from black and white, so they named those Basic Black and Basic White. However that plan never came to fruition and the Switch was just stuck with those. Part of it could be due to the Switch’s limited power and RAM.
With the Switch 2 set to be more powerful and also have more RAM, who knows, maybe with that they can actually add more themes to the Switch 2 and bring back UI music. If we’re lucky, they might also add animated themes and allow use to use our own images as backgrounds.
I am thinking that this week is a no for major announcements because of the DK returns release. I don't see Nintendo announcing anything big on the US inauguration and Martin Luther King Jr. Day (both are next Monday I believe), but I could see some big announcement later that week. If we're getting Switch 2 announced before February, there's only so much time left for it.
@MrCarlos46@Grumblevolcano I think both of these choices are possible. It depends on if Nintendo wants to talk more about the Switch 2 and maybe answer questions at the February 4th investor meeting.
Rumors are starting to come out for a reveal this week (specifically Thursday), which I find a bit odd with the DK port releasing that day. Nate has been very reliable when it comes to Direct timing down to the exact day, so I think it’s a fair possibility.
@PikminMarioKirby It's interesting how there's supposedly no games in the Switch 2 reveal. It would be a way not to overshadow DKC Returns HD but surely the reveal itself would be negatively received if there were no games?
I'm reminded back to the whole "PS5 has no games" memes that appeared as a result of the extensive crossgen period.
@Grumblevolcano Nintendo could set the date for game announcements in a Switch 2 Direct in the reveal. But I’m hoping this reveal allows third party publishers to reveal what they got coming to the Switch 2 without needing to wait for Nintendo.

@Grumblevolcano I don’t think they said no games would be there, just not a focus on them.
I’m thinking something like the Switch 1 reveal, where the main focus is the hardware, but some gameplay is shown on the screen causally.
If they’re going for a more condensed timeframe, they might as well show the hardware and games in the same presentation.
This idea that Nintendo is doing the software reveal later is interesting, as it implies that 3rd parties will likely still be restricted from revealing their Switch 2 games until said showcase/Direct, despite the hardware being revealed.
Also not sure how to feel about the idea that Mario Kart is the big new launch title and that 3D Mario isn't coming until the holidays. I feel like not having a big new single player game at launch could backfire, especially if Prime 4 also isn't ready for launch (or is Switch 1 only and no native Switch 2 version).
@Grumblevolcano@IceClimbers 8f you go back and look at the first Switch trailer, it doesn't have a single game name or logo but several games are shown, I wonder if it will be like that?
