This will be my last post for a quite while, I promise this time!
It's good to see that more and more has regained back their senses now. Those people who frequents on Nintendo forums on internet only makes a tiny percentage of the actual Switch user base.
Mostly of them (outside those who frequents on internet) will just patiently waiting until Nintendo announces it while those whiny ones on internet wants it NOW, NOW and NOW! Many of them still are pretty much clueless about the fuss surrounding "Switch 2" since they doesn't uses internet in the same way. They just plays for the fun.
It must be exhausting to obsessing over a silly videogame for 24/7 which still haven't been announced yet!
It's also so tragically that so many people trusts on all those "leakers", "streamers", "youtubers", tik-tokers", "trenders" etc rather than Nintendo itself, it's they who develops the console and its games!
@Keman maybe it’s a good idea if you take a break from the Internet or Nintendolife in general.
If gaming news, rumours leaks annoy you or gaming fans and enthusiast who like to discuss upcoming tech and rumours. It’s only for your best interest to avoid gaming sites
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
It's interesting how while some Switch 1 era patterns fell apart (e.g. 2024 didn't have a September Direct), some stayed accurate. In the end Nintendo didn't do a general Direct or Switch 2 reveal this week because they wanted all eyes on Splatoon 3 FrostyFest which is currently taking place.
We'll see next week whether the 1st party game release theory also stays accurate (no general Direct or Switch 2 reveal because they want all eyes on DKC Returns HD).
The guy who leaked the PS5 Pro release date said when the Switch 2 will be announced, as well as release date, price and what some launch titles could be. Here’s what he put up:
Announcement: January 17
Release: March 3
Launch titles: Mario Kart 9, Red Dead Redemption 2, an announcement for a new 3D Mario
Price (in Canada): $399 (basically $299 in the US)
UPDATE: The guy admitted on the GTA forum that he made it up. I don’t have the like to the GTA forum post on that, but the My Nintendo News page regarding the leak updated it to mention that.
As expected. Why would it even come out on a Monday? Also the release timeframe from January to March is so short. My expectations for when the Switch 2 could come out are still set between late May and early June, but at this point I’d be fine with a September or November release.
@Grumblevolcano I don’t think Nintendo is worried about getting all eyes on DKCR’s third release. There’s nothing for them to talk about with that game other than it’s existence and will not get anything near the usual marketing spend their new-new products do, if any at all
@NinChocolate
I've been saying it's going to be next week, but people are poo-pooing it because of the DKC port
I don't think it can't be next week and I don't think DKCR matters as much as some people seem to think. But these things are planned in advance.
They picked the week of DKCR knowing when they would announce Switch 2. If the announcement was next week presumably they would've put the release of DKCR on some other date. Or so the theory goes
Honestly I think the only reason to think it's next week now is because next week is next week. Or I guess if you want to be contrarian. It's certainly possible and, IMO, way more likely than a release in March. But of the three weeks left in Jan I don't know why you would pick the only one with a game launch
I would like next week but I don't see any reason it would be next week rather than one of the two later weeks in January. Unless the actual launch is going to be super soon.
Watch a Switch 2 ad and then go buy a donkey Kong game that previously released on two popular Nintendo consoles. Sounds like a decent week in January for Nintendo
Something to consider looking at the calendar. Easter is late April this year and it's usually a fairly popular time of the year for people to take holidays. Because public holidays are basically free days off and you can stack them with annual leave to min-max your leave balance. It's also true for kids, because the state tries to line up these days off with the school calendar. Here in Australia the 12th to the 27th are School holidays this year because they always try to line up with Easter. Less relevant for the more global release, we have Anzac day on the 25th so that's a 3 day work week. Outside of Australia in Japan Golden Week is the week of the 29th
So yeah, April is a big month for people taking holidays I think. And if you were a planning a release you would want to be before people take holidays because people on holidays have leisure time. Which means entertainment. Which means shopping and games. Mid April feels like it would be a fair candidate for a launch I think
Also, selfishly thinking of myself, I'm also booking holidays around that window. If Switch 2 comes out before my holidays? I'm probably getting it day 1 so I can take it with me. If it comes out while I'm on holidays obviously I'm not getting it then. If it comes out after? .... it's a slightly tougher sell, because if I buy it after my break I'll be buying it for 1hr here and there after work and weekends
edit: I have heard people on other forums talk about June/July in an effort to line up with Summer holidays. Probably also a valid perspective. Obviously doesn't line up at all with Australia but we are a tiny market all things considered. But regardless I do think that early/mid April is a fairly good window for launch. Certainly better than May
@skywake
Geez, man, you really are unpleasant towards me.
No. That is also not the reason why I’ve been saying next week. I’ve been saying it because I don’t feel the first week of the new year was viable, this week was CES or whatever, and next week week feels right to me if they want to have this thing about anytime between March-June. In my feel, if they wait to reveal towards the very end of January or into February, that pushes the release back to a June-September window, which I don’t think is in their interest.
I think they want about 4ish months between reveal and release.
@rallydefault
None of what you said excludes the week of the 20th or 27th. And I don't see how one week here or there on an announcement pushes the release months back
And you always have the contrarian takes, it's your jam

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
Xbox Developer Direct pretty much deconfirms the week of January 20th considering Xbox as a 3rd party publisher would know when the Switch 2 is being revealed and hence would time their event accordingly. Meanwhile the final week of January risks clashing with stuff like a State of Play (last year there was one on January 31st) or GTA6 news (Take Two's investor meeting is on February 6th so Rockstar may share news the week before).
So Nintendo seems to have made 1 of 2 choices:
1. Reveal Switch 2 next week even though DKC Returns HD is releasing on Thursday
2. Reveal Switch 2 after their investor meeting
