Since it wasn’t specified into how backwards compatibility for Switch games will work in Switch 2, a worst case scenario can be that Switch games will only work digitally on Switch 2
I mean, given that Switch 2 hasn't fully been announced yet and sales have shrunk a lot this year regardless, it seems fair to say it is only Switch 1 being old that are impacting sales. Plus the fact that there were no truly massive Nintendo games out this year.
@MrCarlos46 Hard to know what Nintendo was thinking... all we know is they didn't reveal it 😆 And seems like basically zero chance they will reveal it before black Friday when a lot of those holiday sales will happen.

They ain’t revealing it December 2 either, because that’s basically Cyber Monday, so holiday sales also happen then
@Novamii I mean... December 13 is presumably late enough to not particularly effect holiday sales. But it also seems likely Nintendo won't even win any awards this year except maybe family game unless Astro takes it. So I doubt Nintendo will too excited by game awards this year.
@Novamii I think we'll get Indie World around then as apart from 2017, every time there's been an indie event in August there's been another indie event in December.
@MrCarlos46 It'd be nice to have a microphone that didn't require the stupid wired phone connection the base Switch needs. It'd be nice for multiplayer (since literally every other platform has it), but it'd also open the door for a fair amount of games. For example, recently Phasmophobia came to consoles (save for Switch), since Switch doesn't have a microphone, it wouldn't really work. Adding a mic (or at least supporting headset mics and such) would be a great addition. Not only would it breathe new life into multiplayer, but it'd also allow many more games that we haven't been able to get with our current limitations. (And if you don't want to hear any mic stuff in game, simply disable it via the game or system settings.)
Like maybe give the Switch Joy-Cons and Switch 2 Pro Controller built-in microphones too for voice chat
@Novamii@MrCarlos46 The Wii U Gamepad had both a headphone jack and an internal microphone. I remember voice chat being very active on Splinter Cell Blacklist multiplayer because of that setup.
One thing I'd add RE online social features. The Australian government is currently persuing regulations around access to "social media" for minors and having some kind of ID requirement or something. Don't ask me how it'll work, it's a dumb idea and I'm not convinced it will work. At all
But the one thing about this legislation is that it's so broad that it also covers social features in games. I believe there are some states in the US going down a similar road (eg Florida) and also other countries (Canada was one IIRC). So I wouldn't be holding my breath for significant improvement of social features if this is the route various governments go down
Probably also kills any prospect of a MiiVerse like service returning. Or at least if it does I doubt they'll bother making it available in Australia

Even if Australia implements the social media ban for people under 16, they might still find a way to bypass the age verification
@MrCarlos46
My point wasn't really about whether or not those regulations work or can be bypassed or whatever. Frankly I think the whole thing is a bit silly. But it's also, for whatever reasons, popular and silly. That's why it's happening (and not just here)
The problem is more that a company like Nintendo might be forced to comply with this age verification nonsense. And the easiest way to comply would be to simply not offer a service that would fall under these kinds of regulations
