I don't understand, people realize they always have their phones on then... Right?
They do it's the HomeBrew/Hackers that are saying this but won't admit that's what they want to do. General users could care less they want good games that has replay value and that they enjoy with single or family or friends coop time.
So, we're soon coming to the Switch 2's first anniversary, and Youtube still doesn't work on it. I guess we're never gonna get it?
@Misima People have already explained several times in this thread why they prefer watching videos on the Switch over watching them on their smartphones.
@Polvasti And some people prefer evil over good. There's no harm in using your switch to others, but it could brick your system because you're opening a closed ecosystem to constant upgrades from a third party.

Yes, I can watch YouTube on my phone. No problem. However, Switch and Switch 2 can be docked to a TV. I have an HDTV that isn't a smart TV. I use YouTube a lot on Switch to watch gaming related videos, episodes and shorts of cartoons I like from their official YouTube channel, NHL highlights, streams, my digital movie library (linked via Movies Anywhere), on my TV using Switch.
It has more to do with the fact that a Switch 2 (and Switch) can be used on a TV when docked, letting people watch videos on a TV. I don't think many use YouTube (or some of the other video apps Switch had in the past) in handheld mode.

Youtube has been available for the Switch 1 for years though, and it still works there. So I can't imagine it being much of a security risk for the Switch 2, which seems to have pretty much the same operating system as its predecessor.

The problem is Netflix does not care to make it a priority. So you shouldn't risk your system.
This is misinformation. Using YouTube, or even Crunchyroll (it's the other video app I can think of) on Switch 1, will not brick a system. The fact they're up on the eShop shows that YouTube and Crunchyroll are licensed by Nintendo, meaning they've been tested to make sure they work right on a Switch system.
Using officially licensed software is not going to brick a Switch or a Switch 2. By that mindset, I better stop playing third party games on my system because they're a "risk" to my system. Even though Nintendo licensed them to work on my Switch.
As long as software or games are licensed by Nintendo, they're safe to use on a Switch or a Switch 2.

@Misima You are spreading it based on a bad experience you had. The versions of Netflix, YouTube, etc on Nintendo consoles are officially licensed by Nintendo. This means the software goes through testing to ensure it works with their consoles, and Nintendo is very strict with it too.
What it sounds like to me, you had a Wii that was defective, or failed and needed to be repaired. Nothing from the official Wii Shop Channel or the eShop is going to brick your console.
I've used the official Netflix apps on Wii and Wii U for years before they shut them down, and both consoles still work to this day. This whole "video apps will brick or hack your console," is just misinformation.
Just to mention that YT on NS1 came out at 2018 November 8th, so it took little over 1,5 years to come out there, so!
