Nintendo didn't make a tie-in game for the first Mario movie, I doubt they'd start now.

I think there is 0% chance that Nintendo makes “Super Mario Bros The Movie The Game” as a tie in.

That said the general appearance of characters like Donkey Kong could easily be modified slightly to link a little more (though not exactly). DK has had different aesthetics before Rare remodelled him and I can see Nintendo modernising his appearance for a the next generation (as they have with Mario over time in more subtle ways).

@skywake Wait, back buttons as in back paddles like the Xbox Elite controllers? It was the first thing to come up when you said this.

@StuTwo The way I see it is that the DK movie design isn't what they're going with here, but rather the movie design is based on the new design for Mario Kart 9. It's clear that Nintendo is going with a more wonder-like art direction for Mario as a whole (given how the characters in MK9 look a ton like the character models in Wonder). Wonder itself sorta harkens back to the old Mario artwork that Nintendo used to have for the original games. This includes DK's old design, which the new design seems to a merging of Rare's version of the design along with the classic one.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the next 3D Mario takes after this same style that's presented both in Wonder and Mario Kart 9.

I did see someone speculate that in the Mario kart footage, the racers didn't start on the grid, so it might be a later lap. It could be that the course changes each lap, they get diverted and what we are seeing is a mad dash to the finish line as opposed to an open road Mario game. It sounded reasonable so thought I would pop it here incase of the eventuality.

@GrailUK That's what I keep thinking it is. Open World genuinely makes no sense with what this series is. It's most likely just an extension of how Tour did its courses, where the routes tend to change every lap.

@GrailUK Same here. I think it'll be great. Just hope it isn't the only gimmick there.

@VoidofLight Didn’t even see the characters looking different compared to the designs we know and love (other than DK). Can’t wait to see more on what the new models look like.

@MrCarlos46 Bowser has a slightly different design now. Mario's face is rounder- more akin to what he looks like in Wonder. Luigi's face is also a bit rounder as well. The others, I haven't gotten a good look of yet.

People keep comparing these designs to the movie and wonder. I'm not sure that's where these are from. It was pointed out elsewhere, and I can't not see it now, that these designs are mostly from the promo renders for Mario Kart 64 with the exception of DK who's model back then was the RARE one. @skywake Ohh yeah, this is more what it seems to be embodying. My question is why DK's design is so different then. It would be strange if it were for synergy with the film, given that Mario, Peach, and Luigi are all still more akin to the original artwork than they are the film itself.

Looking at that little hole by the cartridge slot. Possible built-in microphone for Switch 2 or could it just be to detach the Joy-Cons assuming the release button is also stuck when trying to disconnect?

I guess the DK from the N64 didn't really have the same style so it would make sense to redo it. Also while he kinda has some similar features to the movie DK, especially the eyes, he doesn't quite look the same. Seems to me it's just a new DK design and people are latching on to saying it's like the movie because it's not the RARE design we've become used to

I'm starting to wonder if the Nintendo Selects will show up again now.

@NintendoByNature If Switch games have never lowered in price during the Switch’s lifespan, then probably not.

@MrCarlos46 feels crazy with the new system coming out soon here. I own most of what I want anyway, but I'd probably grab a few more titles to fill out the library if they did.

@NintendoByNature There are a lot of Nintendo games and even franchises I've never really tried because of the lack of good sales ever happening. That said I don't think they will do selects; if they want to sell a game more they'll just advertise it on Switch 2 with their standard 33% off sale or conceivably their rare 50% off sales.

Think the idea of doing selects or anything like that will decrease with each generation. Did Sony do any for the PS4? I am pretty sure Microsoft never did.
