Ok, does having a mouse mean that it might be easier to port DS and 3DS games to the Switch? Especially for TV Mode and Tabletop Mode?
The mouse replaces the need for a touch screen?

clearly the mouse will be usable as a normal mouse for some games... but I'm definitely also hoping it will be used for touch screen games docked. We'll have to wait and see.

This could be interesting.

And reading above about Metroid Prime 4 . . . you could use the left mouse for moving about, with the joystick for looking left/right, up/down. And the right mouse to aim for shooting?

The only thing I feel like was an iffy move was for them to show off the new Mario Kart instead of any other game they have. Especially with the course they showed us. People have a hard time distinguishing this game and Mario Kart 8- despite the fact that they look pretty different if you actually get a good look at it. A lot of people are throwing around that it looks like a current gen game instead of something that would befit the power of the Switch 2- with that leading to annoying speculation that Mario Kart 9 is going to end up being a cross-gen game.

I doubt it's a cross-gen game though, since it doesn't look like something that would run smoothly on the current Switch. Especially given the whole 24 man races and what seems to be giant courses. Even if the game's graphics aren't souped up (which we don't know, given we got low resolution gameplay for the game and on a course that's meant to be one of the starting ones), there's most likely a reason for why the game doesn't look as visually impressive as it could. Mainly given the massive scope of everything that's going on.

What a brilliant move Nintendo. I think making a Switch 2 is perfect for Nintendo Just improving on the hybrid system is the right thing to do, it's shows off Nintendo's uniqueness. Rather then try to make a cosole that can compete with Xbox or PS on power they just did what brought them to the dance this generation. Personally I hope going.forward all their console are hybrid consoles.

@Tasuki After the Switch and especially when they fused their handheld and home console departments into one, there’s no way Nintendo is going back to doing two separate consoles. Although if they ever were to I wanna see them be able to work with each other in some way.

@Dev1024 Except it’s unknown where the NFC reader will be placed. Probably in the R Joy-Con analog stick like the Switch or even the screen like New 3DS/New 3DS XL/New 2DS XL (only for handheld mode).

MMOs and RTS are what first came to mind with mouse controls considering those genres are usually PC exclusive.

Okay, but do you think they'll have any games of those genres ready at launch? Especially AAA games? They might have some minigames in those genres, but for a big, AAA system seller showcasing the mouse controls, I think the only clear choice is Prime 4.

@Grumblevolcano It's important to note that it's only mouse controls. MMOs need keyboards to work effectively, so I don't see it being meant for MMOs really.

As someone who hasn't played one, why exactly do MMOs not work without keyboards? I can't imagine needing a keyboard for any type of genre that doesn't involve a lot of typing.

@Bolt_Strike MMOs play best with keybinds. Especially MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV, where you pretty much need to stay on top of when and where you want to cast your abilities. The High-End content is impossible to do if you're just clicking the icons with a mouse, given how tight the timing windows are. Most MMOs use the same combat system, so it ends up being a similar case with those as well.

This being said, some MMOs have controller support, but you'd need both joycons to simulate that. Something that you wouldn't be able to do with just a mouse.

Also- another thing to add is that MMO RPGs tend to be social games. You won't be able to chat with other people in text-chat without a keyboard.

Basically, this feature isn't meant for MMO RPGs. It's meant for other experiences. Stuff like shooters- or stuff like simulating touch-screen controls while docked. A gimmick to be used in tech demos and party games- rather than being something which is widely used to play MMOs.

And I don't think the mouse functionality is going to work with Switch 1 games, so a full Switch 2 version of Prime 4 at or around launch would make sense.

Switch and Switch 2 share the same firmware, it's one vector for cross-confirmation of some of the leaks. They actually added mouse support, as in general mouse support, to the Switch firmware. The new JoyCon at the low level at least basically behave like a regular mouse just with some additional buttons and inputs

So in theory at least there's no reason why you couldn't use the Switch 2 JoyCon, or just a regular old mouse in general, on a Switch 1 game. I could easily see a scenario where MP4 is a Switch game.... but with MouseCon support, general mouse support and graphical enhancements when running on Switch 2

I wonder if NSO on Switch 2 will have new options such as the ability to purchase games on the service.

@MrCarlos46 I think they will go back to the standard console. Technology has finally let them find their niche and do it in a consumer friendly way. Yeah I know Sony has remote play and Xbox has where you can stream games to devices like tablets but the fact that with Nintendo it uses the native console and you don't have to stream anything. Nintendo has finally found their place.

I don't like how Nintendo is going with red again for Switch 2.
Untitled
GameCube was purple, Wii was white/gray, Wii U was blue, Switch was red, and now Switch 2 is also red. I would've preferred maybe a purple/black to give a galaxy feel, which would make it feel a lot different from Switch 1.

MarioKirbyPikmin?

MrCarlos46

@PikminMarioKirby Red is Nintendo’s signature color and it represents the fun and joy they want to bring. Plus, for the past few years Nintendo has also been comfortable using red once again after ditching it during the Wii and Wii U eras, so no surprise they’re choosing to use red going forward.

I can’t tell if the colored parts of the R Joy-Con and its slot on the Switch 2 tablet are some sort of orange or they’re still using Neon Red.

Kinda looks like Neon Red even though the reveal trailer made it look like something.

Anti-Matter

@MrCarlos46
I personally prefer the White box color for Wii and Baby Blue box color for Wii U than the red box color.

No good deed
Will I do
AGAIN...!!!

MrCarlos46

@Ulysses Any chance we’ll see special editions later on based on past consoles, like NES (North America and Europe), Famicon (Japan only) (maybe both combined) or SNES/Super Famicom (with the NA and JP/EU color schemes on the same unit rather than separate ones)?

MrCarlos46

@Ulysses If not for Switch 2, will Nintendo consider doing special editions for past consoles again after the SNES New 3DS XL, especially with Nintendo Switch Online Virtual Console controllers now a thing?

Thinking back at that one dual-screen patent from 2023 and now it leads me wondering: What if the top USB-C port is for something like a dual-screen attachment similar to that device in the patent?

This could actually help for if they rerelease DS and 3DS games, especially if they bring those to Nintendo Switch Online. Could also be for more depending on where they go with it.

@MrCarlos46 people have been saying orange which I thought was strange. I thought it was neon red myself. Why stick with neon blue but then change the secondary color to orange. Seems odd to me if it's in fact orange.

MrCarlos46

@NintendoByNature I’m still looking at it and it looks less orange and more neon red. Nintendo seems to like that color combo, although pastel colors would have also been cute.
