I never had a charging station. Do you know one that will definitely work with them?

Probably not the cheapest, but the official Nintendo charger actually mentions that it works for the NES controllers:

After Switch 2 preorders sold out on Walmart, the listing came back but without the option to preorder, now saying something like “Get ready for launch day, June 5th.”

Honestly the Switch 2 has been my most anticipated console yet, dating back to the last few days of 2022, and here I am now, hyped for it.

@MrCarlos46
Same. I've never been so excited for a new video game console. Obviously no Hardware is technically perfect but this is as close to perfect of a console I've ever seen. It addresses every issue we had with Switch. And Switch was already the coolest console I've ever owned. It just struggled to run a lot of games.

Switch 2 is running Cyberpunk 2077 day one better than Switch ever ran The Witcher 3. 1080p handheld gaming with many titles offering 120fps. I never expected both VRR and DLSS but here we are. Full 4k capabilities. HDR. I love the magnetic joycon. It's the Switch design fully evolved.

But that mouse integration is what really seals the deal. No other console can do this because every other console uses a traditional controller. Only Switch, with its split joycon and flat side could transition into a mouse. It's so brilliant I dare say it's actually genius.

And the Pro Controller finally adding rear grip buttons, fixing the dpad, adding an audio jack, with improved HD Rumble 2 and slightly better ergonomics inspired by the GC controller? Many are saying it's the best controller they've ever used. And despite the outrage over the $85 post-tariff price, I look at that compared to the $200 controllers Xbox/PS offer, and I can't believe it. This controller may actually be better than those and for less than half the price. Oh, and 40 hr battery life fully recharging in 3 hrs. Vs that PS5 controller with like 5 hours battery.

They addressed the laggy eShop. They redesigned the analog sticks. They made the screen 8" which should finally be large enough for text to be readable, even in 3rd party games developed for a TV screen. They incorporated backwards compatibility (we take this for granted, but there was a time this functionality was up in the air). They switched over to high speed internal storage and increased base storage to 256GB. They're now using high speed cartridges so games can still be read off the external medium without mandatory installs like other platforms require. They upgraded the mSD slot to microSD Express, which uses PCIe lanes like NVMe solid state drives, enabling speeds up to several thousand MB/s (in theory). Even at launch we already have Lexar 1TB mSD EX cards with read speeds of 900 MB/s, and Adata announced new cards boasting 1,600 MB/s are incoming.

It's something most people gloss over but transitioning to high speed storage is a MASSIVE game changer. Anyone with a gaming PC using an NVMe SSD, or with a PS5/XS console, can attest to the insane difference in load times high speed storage makes. I have a gaming PC with a 2TB NVMe SSD at 5,600 MB/s and x2 Sata SSDs at 600 MB/s. And frankly, the difference in load times between them is negligible. Once you reach Sata SSD speeds, the returns are extremely diminished.

But the decrease in loading times comparing either the Sata SSDs at 600 MB/s or the NVMe at 5,600 MB/s to traditional mechanical HDDs or standard micro SDs, which typically have read speeds of around 120 MB/s, is incredible. And Switch 2 internal storage, I believe, is around 1,200 MB/s while the Lexar mSD Express cards are 900 MB/s. That's 150-200% the speed of Sata Solid State Drives, which are already lightning fast compared to HDD/SDs.

This is one of the biggest benefits Switch gamers are going to notice right off the bat. Fast travel in Zelda taking just a few seconds, for example. Or loading after a death. It facilitates that "just one more" mentality. When you have to sit through a 30-40 second load screen every time you die or want to fast travel, it kills the flow of the game. There are literally games on Switch I stopped playing due to the length of loading screens. Gear Club Unlimited and A Hat In Time come to mind. It was insufferable! I'm telling you, Switch gamers who don't own other platforms are going to be legit shocked at how much the high speed storage directly impacts their enjoyment of the hobby for the better.

30 bucks isn't too bad. I usually stick to 1st-party stuff, so that looks good. Thanks!

Dun-dun-duuuun: The dreaded double post! Sorry!

So, once I get my Switch 2 and do the system transfer from my OLED and all that, how should I go about storing my OLED?

On the data side of things, I kind of forget how the whole system transfer process even works (I only did it once) - will my OLED be wiped after the transfer, or will I want to go back and do a manual wipe? Or just leave it be?

In terms of the system itself, I guess I'll just get it back in its box, try to tuck it away somewhere not too hot/cold, and maybe one day I'll take a trip down nostalgia lane lol

@JaxonH I completely agree with everything you wrote there. They took the perfect console concept and smoothed out every small niggle I had with it, added fantastic new functionalities and slapped a great launch lineup on top. Combined with the craftmanship, creativity and pure focus on being fun they put into their 1st party games it doesn‘t get any better. Therefore I find all the hate they are currently getting quite disheartening, though my prediction is that this will smooth out quite soon after release. So, thank you for keeping the hype alive!

@rallydefault I think you can leave it as it is. Just set your S2 as primary console in your account and download those virtual game cards you want to have on the device. In terms of storage, you should charge the old console once in a while, otherwise the battery might get damaged. Personally I will keep both side by side. The dock is slim and I have more games than will fit on my initial 512 GB Switch2 setup.

@rallydefault Probably gonna be similar to the DSi-3DS, Wii-Wii U and Switch-Switch transfers where it won’t automatically factory reset after the transfer.

Banjo-

Everybody has the right to think, like and dislike whatever they want. I have every Nintendo console since SNES, including the handhelds that I traded for the latter model and excluding Virtual Boy that didn't exist here, but I won't get Nintendo Switch 2... yet. I keep all the home consoles despite being PAL and I will keep New Nintendo 3DS, my favourite handheld, forever.

After watching many videos about Nintendo Switch 2, I think I'd better wait for a revision with better chip and thus battery life and better screen since the 1080p 120Hz LCD screen is a weird choice when games never hit that target in handheld mode and show upscaling artifacts, 60fps in the best of the scenarios, 30fps (or even fewer) in many cases and underwhelming HDR on it, after a 720p OLED model that was the perfect choice for Nintendo's resolution target.

Moreover, on top the current lineup being focused on overpriced last-gen ports, not just third-party but also first-party, is something I don't approve. Nintendo ports are too expensive. I don't feel like wasting my money on them. The only time I bought the same Nintendo title twice (besides Virtual Console and Wii U remasters) was Mario Kart 8, but at least the Switch version has extra (paid) content. I don't think I'll be paying the upgrade fees either, because I have already completed Breath of the Wild (on Wii U) and Tears of the Kingdom (on Switch) and unlike the older The Legend of Zelda games, I don't feel like replaying them and I don't think that they are that great either.

I have a hunch about Donkey Kong Bananza being too gimmicky. Mario Kart World looks very underwhelming in terms of content and open world activities, but I know I'll get it sooner or later. Metroid Prime 4 was my most anticipated game, you can read very old comments of mine talking about it, but it's also available on Nintendo Switch. I thought that it was 4K on Nintendo Switch 2, but it seems that it's 1440p upscaled to 4K in docked mode, despite being a Nintendo Switch port. They don't look that different, considering the hardware upgrade.

In short, getting the launch model with its disappointing lineup and almost everything being old with paid upgrades is not worth it. Like I said in the beginning, all opinions about products are fine and I'm pretty sure that I will get a revision someday.

I think Switch 2 looks like a decent successor to the Switch 1. The 3DS was largely the DS but with superfluous 3D and better hardware. To the point that Nintendo would inevitably offer models that remove it.

Coming from that experience, I think the Switch 2 seems like a good follow-up. Since it’s largely a refined Switch 1 with some nice extra features and better hardware.

Right. It's exactly what everyone has been asking for going all the way back to the Switch Pro hysteria. Switch, but with more powerful hardware so it's not a constant tossup as to whether games will run properly.

I'm so glad they listened and didn't throw the hybrid concept out the window to chase some weird design choice. I think Switch 2 is the future of gaming. It's the console that establishes the hybrid design as the permanent direction of the company moving forward, and as Xbox/PS hit the brick wall of diminishing returns, they'll ultimately be forced to follow suit.

It's gonna be so nice playing games like Street Fighter 6 and Final Fantasy VII Remake and Cyberpunk 2077 on a hybrid handheld. The dream finally being fully realized. Switch was (and still is) incredible. But it just wasn't powerful enough to get all the games. I remember talking about FFVII a year or so back saying I was gonna wait for the inevitable Switch 2 version. At the time that probably seemed like wishful thinking to some. But here we are- the system isn't even out yet and the game has already been revealed. Vindicated.

With the fact the new Joy-Con will work as mice, will there be a separate Pro Mouse accessory later on?

Most definitely.

If not from Nintendo then from 3rd parties. If not from 3rd parties then from individuals with 3D printers selling them on eBay and Etsy. Already people are coming up with designs.

It's hype!

@Banjo-
You don’t need to pay for the Zelda upgrades if you have NSO.

Nintendo really needs to squash all this misinfo that is STILL getting passed around, a month after the reveal even.

@Anakin I know many people that are willing to wait a bit longer this time and see what it brings, as it seems uninspired and reiterative, plus the recycled and paid content does not look very appealing, not even on Nintendo's marketing.

@Green- I see. I consider New Nintendo 3DS the result of the DS and 3DS concepts perfected, with the most comprehensive handheld library, including Virtual Console, expanded on New Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo Switch 2 has, obviously, more power than Nintendo Switch and it's a technical upgrade, but there are some steps backwards: screen compared to the OLED model, specifically what I mentioned above and considering the frame rate and resolution that it will handle in handheld mode, and the battery life. The only added features of Nintendo Switch 2 are a chat button and the mouse functionality that is not very comfy according to some journalists that tried it. In my opinion, the stereoscopic 3D of Nintendo 3DS was a much more remarkable addition, on top of native backwards compatibility and a very noticeable jump in graphical capabilities between DS and 3DS and some games being boosted (for free) on New Nintendo 3DS.

You tagged me so I'll let you know that I know that, but there is misinformation on your comment now that you mention it. You need Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack. The expansion is required, so it's not just the basic subscription and, last time I checked, both are paid services, so it's correct to say that you need to pay for enjoying those upgrades on Nintendo Switch 2, even when the upgrades are a resolution and frame rate boost and a supporting mobile app that displays the map (among other little things).

Speaking of NSO+ Expansion Pack, a reminder that nobody should be paying more than $10/yr. Band together to form groups of 8 with a trusted member being the one everyone PayPals their $10 to once a year. Been doing that for half a decade now. Can go all generation long for the price of 1 year PS+

A deal so good it almost makes you feel guilty about it... almost 😀

@SViper
Doubt it. The Switch cases Nintendo sold were just for the system iirc. I'd advise going with a 3rd party case.

Personally I like a handle on the spine to carry it with. Plus I intend to carry the magsafe portable battery Genki is selling, power adapter and joycon charge grip. Gonna stick an adhesive magsafe magnet on the back of my Switch 2 so I can snap that battery on whenever I want. Already performed weight calculations using that of similar sized batteries and it's still 100g lighter than Steamdeck.

Based on new images I found this morning here, it looks like the sides of the Switch 2 Joy-Con will be customizable.
