@VoidofLight That's how BestBuy has always done this for PreOrders consoles or games that haven't come yet.

I get it now. I don't preorder things that often. The charge on my card still says pending so that's why i was confused. My 480 dollars was gone but apparently that didn't count as paying for it for some reason. 😕

I was scratching my head going say what?
I didn't get why they took the money if it's not an official purchase yet. Whatever.

@Jester676 Yep! I've been pre-ordering games from them for a while now, and it's always been a case where they check to see if you have the money in your account, and then take payment later when the game or device actually releases.

They changed the Donkey Kong profile icon to the new design. They truly are removing the old design off the face of the earth.

@Novamii The new design is the new brand image for DK now. The reason why they probably didn't change it in Returns was because they hadn't revealed Mario Kart yet- and on top of that, it was a pretty lazy "remaster" of the 3DS version of the game.

@VoidofLight
Lazy remaster or not, I'm so glad DKC Returns came to Switch. It's my 2nd favorite 2D platformer after Tropical Freeze, and I've been begging for it for years. Just getting a 60fps HD hybrid version with button controls and optional Wii-like motion controls is enough for my satisfaction. I used to play this game once a year over the holidays. I look forward to resuming that tradition.

We are entering a new console generation with the Nintendo Switch 2, and I’m so excited and full of wonder for what Nintendo is going to do next with their new console and game franchises. I want to express my thoughts on some game franchises that I’m interested in and some I believe might be on their way to Switch 2:

Call of Duty - Black Ops:

There are rumors that Black Ops 7 is going to bring back Zombies Chronicles. Is going to be crazy playing it again on a Nintendo Console after all this time.

Halo:

Imagine playing Halo 2 and 3 local multiplayer on separate Switch 2s from 8 up to 16 players’ wireless LAN party. That would be epic.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion:

A throwback to the 16-bit era with the SUPER NINTENDO and beat ‘em ups but modernized for today’s era.

Zelda:

This is my favorite franchise, so I’m wondering what’s next for Zelda. Will they make games with the classic Zelda formula again?

Mario:

There will most likely be a new type of gameplay as we expect with every new Mario game. Supposedly, the new Mario is going to be open-world instead of levels.

Smash Bros:

Hey, I’m still completely fine with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I mean, I can’t really think of what they might come up next or even include more characters like Master Chief from Halo, etc.

STAR FOX:

If they bring back Star Fox, it would be AWESOME. I never got to complete Star Fox Adventure, but I did on the SNES.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade:

I always wanted to get into a FF game, but maybe this one might be the way. After all, this is the best game in the series.

Golden Sun:

This is another franchise I wanted to get into and is simpler than Final Fantasy 7, but I would like a remake for all 3 games.

Luigi’s Mansion:

Thought I would mention it since they are bringing back GameCube and the first game will be there. I still have to play Luigi’s Mansion 3 and beat 2.

Other games I think I will eventually play are Mario Kart and Animal Crossing, etc.

Switch 2 games are now on the Switch 1 eshop allowing you to view the usual stuff like price, file size, etc. but it doesn't let you preorder them. Instead it comes up with a notification:

"This product is not compatible with Nintendo Switch. It can be purchased or pre-ordered from Nintendo eShop on a Nintendo Switch 2 console."

The only solace I have is that the next game (games?) from Monolith Soft will be on cartridge.

Outside of Nintendo EPD, Monolith Soft are the crown jewel in Nintendo's portfolio.

But as a Switch fan who's mostly here for third party games, I'm less enthusiastic. If the Switch 2 is going to be a mostly-digital platform like Playstation and Xbox, then it'll be treated the same as those other platforms. If a game doesn't have a physical release, I won't consider purchasing a digital copy until it's on deep discount.

Unless Nintendo begin a subscription program that offers "free" indie / AA / AAA games every month akin to PS+ or XGP. I have zero interest in the retro offerings on NSO.

PSA #1

To utilize the original online license system featured on Nintendo Switch systems before Virtual Game Cards, select your user profile icon in the top left from the home screen, navigate to "User Settings" and select "Online License Settings". Toggle to "On".

This will enable you to play digital games on other systems under your profile without loading a digital game card by letting the system perform an online check (aka the old way of doing things). You can still use virtual game cards with this setting on btw.

My primary Switch OLED is hardmodded so I can't update yet until they update Atmosphere to support the latest firmware, so I was unable to play my purchased games on my Switch Lite because it needed the other system to be updated first. But by toggling Online License to On, I can now play my games with the same online check method used for the past 8 years.

PSA #2
To redownload a game without loading a virtual game card, go to the Virtual Game Card screen, select a game (btw, + and - toggles the loaded/unloaded icon as well as the name showing up when hovering on a game) and then go to Options. From there you can select "Download Data".

Pre-orders started a few hours ago in Brazil and I’m so happy that I managed to get one before they sold out.

June 5 can’t come soon enough! I purchased the Mario Kart World bundle.

@VoidofLight @Novamii Rare DK design icons still exist in the form of various NSO icons so this choice of removing the Rare DK design from the free icons feels more like trying to convince people to interact with NSO more via FOMO.

@Novamii Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that's how the Virtual Game Cards work. I'm pretty sure you'd still have to have the games installed to the Switch 2 as well, and that ejecting and loading the VGC is simply moving the digital license to play the game

Has anybody had luck with pre-orders? I still can’t find any (I’ve bookmarked GameStop, so hopefully they’ll restock soon so I can pre-order in person because I don’t want to deal with online issues).

@Grumblevolcano I mean, it's also just that DK's brand image is shifting.

@StewdaMegaManNerd Assuming you're talking about US preorders, i think all the retailers have run out for now. Walmart still had some regionally up through like the 26th, but they took down the page so I think they've run out too. There might be new waves of preorders at some point though, so for now I would just follow somebody that tracks restocks (I had the Twitter account Wario64 suggested to me and I would say that's a good account to follow)

Looks like Borderlands 4 is a nebulous 2025 and later than everyone else release on Switch 2.

Some things never change eh? Expect it to be $70 right as the other versions go half price.

@VoidofLight That's for PreOrders only if it's been released they will make the charge. If you don't have the PreOrder funds then the time -limit begins when they will cancel if you don't make payments.

Ok, can someone explain these virtual game cards to me like I’m five? I’m just not understanding them.

For instance, I go into this new menu, and it’s listing a lot of my physical games. For some of them, like BotW, it specifies that it’s there due to the DLC, but for others (like Stardew Valley that I have on cartridge) it has it in the menu and doesn’t specify anything.

I have an OLED and a Lite. In the past, I didn’t have an issue using a game between the systems. I would just take the cartridge out of my OLED and put it in my Lite, make sure the cloud data was updated, and I was good to go. So is this just for downloaded games?
