So.... did you read this somewhere or did Fishy actually wishlist nearly 400 games to find out firsthand 😆

@JaxonH I was just adding a couple games to my wishlist from the weekly new games. My wishlist has been over 300 for a long time. When you try to add the 381st game an error pops up saying you have hit max and can't add more.

I'd think that it's just Nintendo's way of telling you to get out and touch grass. 😂

Ah well, if you're interested in that many games, you're probably better off tracking them on Deku Deals anyway.

@Matt_Barber
They're not the ones Nintendo needs to say touch grass to, but rather, the ones who make Switch 2 their idol they obsess over to extent it's all they think or talk about from the moment they wake up til they go to sleep, where 6 games can release in a month's span and they're crying about "being bored" with "no games" and how "Nintendo needs" this and that, particularly a Direct, and because they didn't get one when they convinced themselves they would, Nintendo is now "in trouble"

The announcement junkies who care more about getting a daily hype fix like a fent junkie more than they care about playing games.

See it on YouTube and social media every day. All they talk about is Directs and Mario. And I'm thinking ok, what happens after that? Let's say we get a Direct and Mario... now what? Gonna go back to the doom posting for the following 7 years? Just substituting Zelda for Mario until that happens?

We always get like 10 exclusives every year, and always get 1-2 bigger, more notable exclusives in that bunch. Whether they tell us today, tomorrow or next month, it's not gonna change the internal lineup they have planned out. Right now we have scheduled exclusives through March (possibly April if they date Yoshi for us). And they always update us with another 4-6 months of games with release dates by the time the current crop of games is exhausted.

We'll get a Direct by then, letting us know what's happening for May, June, July and August. Then in summer they'll tell us what's happening for fall and the holidays. Yet somehow these people prefer to live in a chronic state of panic.

Feel like when your side hobby devolves into that, it's time to go disc golfing, attend church, watch some movies or movie reactions on YouTube, something to where Switch 2 stops being a detriment to your mental health.

Being fair, I expect at least a sizable majority of the "Drought! Drought!" complainers are bad faith trolls engaged in bad faith trolling. "There aren't enough games" is just a tactic of opportunity in what is otherwise a campaign of console warring. Hence why when called to question about the sheer degree of nonsense that said argument is, they break down into a hilarious multi-layered special pleading. When someone applies a dozen different arguments for why games "don't count", that collectively would exclude every game in existence? You know you aren't dealing with someone who actually owns and uses a given console for entertainment.

I think it’s all about how Switch 1 year 1 was. You had 4 huge heavy hitters in the form of a brand new 3D Zelda, a Mario Kart that the vast majority of the playerbase had never played before, a brand new Splatoon and a brand new 3D Mario. Alongside it was stuff like FE Warriors, XC2, Mario + Rabbids, etc.

This set the expectations for Switch 2 but Nintendo took a much different approach so people who mostly focus on the heavy hitters panic because they’re missing.

I feel Switch 2’s year 1 lineup is better for people who treat Nintendo hardware as general consoles because of the massively increased amount of 3rd party support. Meanwhile Switch 1’s year 1 is a lot better for those who only buy Nintendo hardware for Nintendo games.

I'm not gonna say Switch 1 didn't have an amazing start but as an actual Wii U owner I would say year 1 is better for Switch 2 personally.

Obviously a big part of that is I was not gonna another version of 8 just for a battle mode (hence why I waited until the booster course pass). And FE Warriors is the worst Nintendo Warriors game (and I'm not into FE in the first place though to be fair in hindsight I like Hyrule Warriors because of the Warriors part more than the Zelda part, surprisingly), and I tried Pokken eventually and it wasn't my thing at all. And Xenoblade 2 had a lot of issues I don't feel the need to point out yet again, and technically the most meh Kirby game ended that year 1. So to me year 1 was mostly the three biggest Nintendo games other than Mario Kart and the neat aspect of Nintendo and niche 3rd party games that actually released early on benefitting each other.

Whereas from the outside, to me, Mario Kart World is probably underrated by people who ironically overrate Mario Kart as a franchise, Hyrule Warriors seems like the most peak Hyrule Warriors to me yet, Kirby Air Riders is still my most anticipated game since I do not currently have the hardware to play it, DK Bonanza is from the maybe best dev team in video games, and it seems like a better system overall with backward capability that actually improves older games (often even without a fee) and is an immediately better place for 3rd party games while keeping some focus on the cool niche games that come out so that they don't die because I'm still scarred by how many cool games no one bought on DS or Wii. And Mario Tennis seems cool (especially since I lowkey love Tennis video games), if not "70 dollars from me" cool and Pokopia I'd be interested in if not for the weird gkc issue. So even with less first party games and some issues, it interests me more.

Also it will be easier for Switch 2 to have a better year 2 than year 1 by comparison, where Switch 1's year 2 was just ports and Smash and little else of note.

This is also not a perfect comparison, since I was obnoxiously slow buying some games in hindsight (why did I not get Xenoblade 2 or Splatoon 2 until late 2020?), but even after taking longer to get Switch 1 than I plan to for Switch 2, I only bought Mario Odyssey and Smash with it, and a few 3rd party games a couple months later. And one of those was Travis Strikes Again, ew.

Though stuff like this makes me wish renting games was still a thing that existed. Like I know it does in some ways, in some places, but most of it died a long while ago, so I've not been able to have a real opinion on a number of games I wish I did. That and the price increases make it more difficult for me to judge X or Y about the Switch, so I sometimes just have to rely on the fact I rarely having especially hot takes on the overall quality of games and just hope the general consensus is correct about FE Warriors or whatever.

To Hyperion3 or Moba Pad 12-S? Hmm. I'm looking for a Wii Remote Plus & Nunchuck-like Replacement when playing NS2 on the TV, detached in each hand, for games like Super Mario Galaxy 1+2, Skyward HD etc for NS2, mainly for the more accurate and reliable 9-Axis Gyro combined with the better ergonomics, traditional sticks(Including the bottom right not being placed directly under B,A,X,Y like with the Joy-Con 2's), and larger more premium buttons that both the H3 & 12-S seem to offer.

Apparantly the Hyperion3's suffer from Cardinal stick locking as of now. Hopefully that can be corrected with a future update! And nobody has gone hands on with the Moba's 12-S as of yet. And seriously, why can't Nintendo or a 3rd party just copy the NS2 pro controller, and slice it in half to use in either handheld or for detached-play? We always have to settle for less.

Give me NS1/NS2 pro quality detached controllers and I'll be happy. NS1's Moba M6 HD's were a big dissapointment for me. It was like a symphony of mouse clicks, with soft clicky buttons and bizarre feeling sharp LZ & RZ buttons. I gave them to my niece to play on her NS1 OLED, but she wasn't a huge fan and ended up going back to the regular Joy-Con's. lol

Honestly, people who are poo-pooing DK Bananza are missing out big time. It goes toe-to-toe with Odyssey quite easily in my book.

Shame to hear so many people just writing it off and saying it's "not enough" for them to buy a Switch 2.

And I just gotta say it: If you're a fan of the Warriors games (and I know there are millions of us out there lol), Age of Imprisonment is sublime. It's insanely good. But again, the Youtubers need to find something to complain about and start setting the marching orders, soooo... the characters aren't all extremely memorable. Therefore bad game. Not worth getting a Switch 2.

But as we're saying, internet voices aren't always the most authentic.

@rallydefault Bananza is the best game I've played on Switch 2 so far, I really don't understand the sentiment. I had to take a break from the Internet for a few months as the constant negativity was too much. I made a thread on another site for autistic people, and even there all I got was “Nintendo sucks, just use an emulator.”
I haven't played Age of Imprisonment yet but it's definitely on the list.

For me personally, Switch 2’s 1st party lineup was the stronger one for the first 6 months (i.e. June - December 2025 vs. March - September 2017) meanwhile the second 6 months was easily stronger for Switch 1 so they kind of even out. But I’m more than happy with how the 3rd party lineup turned out especially for January - June 2026 so it’s an easy overall win for Switch 2 year 1 anyway.

I get that online the biggest point against Switch 2 is no new 3D Mario though. It’s a shame the internet doesn’t seem to have taken well to DK Bananza acting as the main 3D platformer.

One of Switch's biggest missteps (imo) was shooting its shot all in Year 1. I think Year 2 was good, but many didn't and just saw Smash Bros at the end of the year as the only thing worthwhile.

I think Nintendo is being smarter and trying to pace their releases on Switch 2 throughout the generation.

2025 gets Mario Kart World and DK Bonanza. 2026 gets Pokopia, and some big unknown holiday title (Mario?). 2027 gets say, Smash Bros and Pokemon Winds/Waves. 2028 gets maybe new Zelda and Mario Party. 2029 gets new Animal Crossing and Luigi's Mansion. And on and on.

But while I do love all those big games and they most definitely are exciting, it's the smaller, mid-tier games that make up the bulk of the lineup each year and, along with hybrid handheld versions of 3rd party games, actually excite me more.

The Metroid Prime 4 and Splatoon Raiders, the Yoshi Mysterious Book and Duskbloods, the Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave and Bayonetta 4, Metroid 6, Pikmin 5, Paper Mario and WarioWares.

And I especially love the surprise games like Astral Chain, Wonderful 101, Cruis'n Blast and Mario Rabbids.

And that says nothing of how fun it is getting hybrid handheld versions with gyro aiming of games like Resident Evil Requiem, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Cyberpunk 2077 and Pragmata, or hybrid handheld versions of various other 3rd party titles like Granblue Fantasy Relink, Split Fiction and Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy.

And for Switch 2 specifically, there's a wealth of gems in the Switch library that now run well with stable framerates and without dynamic resolution drops, many of which are getting upgrades (be they free or paid).

That's what it's all about for me. Yes, love the big headliner games. But 90% of the generation for me is spent with other games. The ones people love to write off, the ones people say "don't count" for whatever reason. The ones releasing every single week without much fanfare. That's where the true value is.

I have a theory that might explain the larger gap between major releases. With the way that the Switch 2 has just about caught up to all other home consoles in terms of power, is there really any reason for the Switch 2 to be replaced anytime soon? The Switch 1 had the longest generation out of any Nintendo console so far and I personally believe that the Switch 2 generation will be even longer, since game development is getting longer now than ever before. That means that in order to keep gamers from getting bored, they can spread out the major releases a bit more and slot in some more smaller games between them. Which is fine with me, because hot take: I usually prefer the "mid-tier" games over the major games. Just sharing my two cents.

My top 5 favorite games:
1: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1
2: Pokémon Violet
3: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
4: The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening (2019)
5: Animal Crossing New Horizons

I do agree. While a 3D Mario and Zelda are almost always going to be among my absolute favorite games whenever they come out, that doesn't make them necessarily the most exciting, and that goes doubly for the other biggest, top selling Nintendo games which I'm often not as into. Partially because I just expect Mario and Zelda to come out and be awesome. That's the norm. Even though the one I could play on Switch 1 I have complicated feelings about, Nintendo putting out Prime 4, Hyrule Warriors and especially Kirby Air Ride as their big holiday games was just inherently cool and exciting to me. 2021 was filled with super exciting releases for Switch for me (New Pokemon Snap, Metroid Dread, Mario Party and Super Monkey Ball nostalgia games, Neo: TWEWY, Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, No More Heroes 3, Famicom Detective Club remake, first new Warioware game in 7 - 14 years (depending on how you look at it)), almost none of which were top sellers.

Yes. Those are the games that make the console exciting.

Back on Wii U, I was totally all for Super Mario 3D World and looking forward to Zelda Breath of the Wild. But it was Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and Xenoblade Chronicles X which really got my heart fluttering. Even Splatoon which, at the time, was a brand new, experimental IP.

Switch 2 is no different. Of course I'm excited for the prospect of the next Mario. Of course I adore Donkey Kong Bonanza and you bet I'm stoked for Pokemon Winds and Waves.

But it's Metroid Prime 4, it's Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave, it's Splatoon Raiders, it's The Duskbloods that get my heart fluttering. I want to see the next Bayonetta or Astral Chain sequel. I want to see the next Pikmin (will gladly take a NS2 Edition of Pikmin 4 in the meantime), I want to see the new Monolith Soft JRPG (be it Xenoblade Chronicles 4 or a new IP).

@Nep-Nep-Freak
I think it's a combination of wanting to pace headline releases to 1 or 2 at most every year so there's a steady cadence of hype, along with the fact there's way more 3rd party support on Switch 2. And those games need room to breathe. If Nintendo comes through with too many high-gravity releases, it'll suck all the air out of the room for 3rd parties to thrive.

Look at the games up til summer- Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, GRID Legends, Trails Beyond the Horizon, Ys X: Proud Nordics, Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil Requiem, Fallout 4, Fatal Frame 2, Pragmata, Indiana Jones, 007 First Light, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Digimon Story Time Strangers, etc

How could these games find success with Nintendo banging out show stoppers every other month? Now. Nintendo still has to release games, but they're smaller releases. Games that likely won't reach 10 million+ (except Pokopia- sky is the limit for that one, but it is only one game of such scale for the first half of the year).

Nintendo has to be much more strategic spacing out their 1st party. Unlike Wii U, 3DS, and for a good chunk of the Switch's lifespan, they can't just bombard us left and right as if very few big 3rd party games also need a slice of the market. Nintendo wants these 3rd party games to succeed. Nay. Nintendo probably feels they need these 3rd party games to succeed. This is the first opportunity they've had in decades to regain such strong support. And I'm willing to bet they're making doubly sure those games have the space they need.

After all, consumers only have so much money at the end of the day. We can't afford everything all at once.

I think the fundamental problem with 3D TV and movies is that making good 3D content was possible but expensive and required real effort. Making bad 3D content was cheap and easy, so that's what most people did. Only, if most of the content was crap, that gave the customer very little incentive to invest in expensive 3D viewing equipment. Which trapped the format in a bootstrapping problem, since if the average customer doesn't even have an expensive 3D TV, why bother making 3D content?
I don't think the format will be revisited until such time as making a TV 3D is no longer expensive. If and when a TV can be made 3D cheaply enough that it gets thrown in as a feature purely for a marketing bullet point ( as opposed to "so we can charge triple the price" )? Then TV and movies might start more routinely making 3D content again.

I don't think 3D TVs were prohibitively expensive, mine was about £340 for a 49" Finlux with passive 3D ( I could never get on with active 3D, it had to be passive like the cinemas). A non 3D Finlux TV at the time was maybe £280 with the same sort of spec. I think I've had that TV about 12-13 years now and used it about 20,000 hours in total, no more than about 300 hours of 3D content I would guess though. However you can use any display for anaglypth and just put some transparent sweet wrappers over some glasses to get the 3D effect. Youtube has a anaglyph option. Anaglyph colours are a bit wrong but still watchable. It's the same technology as 1950s 3D movies. Now of course its gone up a tech level with VR headsets but for casual 3D movies and gaming I still like old style passive 3D tvs. I think Dolphin the gamecube and wii emulator supports 3D and it can be quite impressive.

Left to right, top to bottom I took handheld mode pictures of the following:

  • Resident Evil 7
  • Resident Evil Village
  • Resident Evil Requiem
  • Resident Evil Revelations
  • Resident Evil Revelations 2
  • Resident Evil 5

Didn't bother with Resident Evil 6, Resident Evil 0 remaster, Resident Evil 1 remaster or Resident Evil 6.

How far we've come.

@JaxonH think its also much harder for nintendo to develope games. 3ds games were probably much easier to produce and the switch benefitted from a ton of wii u ports - even wii games got ported (pikmin for example).
A similar thing can be seen on the s2 with switch 2 editions. Not new games but when people see nintendo store shelves they might be under the impression there is a ton going on.
I agree with you on the third party support, having requiem released alongside the ps5 is pretty awesome for the moment, after all we are basically looking at a handheld ps4 here, maybe ps4 pro. We will see how far upcoming ps5 releases be able to raise the bar, tho. Not a chance we will be seeing ports of games like crimson desert.
In any case, imo long term success of the s2 will depend on console exclusives mostly, the new pokemon will surely help.
