@Azileron I only have one system (2 technically now because I have Switch 2 and haven't gotten rid of my Switch 1 yet) but I still prefer to see the comparison type commentary in reviews. Although it was frustrating to see it so often on late gen Switch 1 games, I would prefer to know which game is a good port which has the intended experience and which isn't. I waited on a lot of games over the last 2 years for Switch 2 to come out because I wanted to wait and play them with fewer issues.
@skywake
I largely agree when you say reviewers have a responsibility to inform the reader when a port is compromised. But the nuance is that a portable system will always have ports that are compromised. So it's not really worth bringing up unless the compromise is above and beyond what you would reasonably expect. Like, we know the 10W handheld version isn't going to have parity with the PS5, a tank of a platform that's closer to a cinder block than a console. Don't have to remind me the game "looks better" elsewhere. Simply tell me the facts- convey what it is, and let me decide whether the compromise is too much or not. Don't try to form conclusions for the reader. Simply inform them and let them form their own conclusions. Too often they tell the reader/viewer what platform they should play on, and its only ever Nintendo sites and influencers that consistently instruct their readers/viewers to play elsewhere if possible, even when a port is great. Like NBA 2k. It's a phenomenal port. But because its 30fps they say go play on PS5. Like, it's a 10W handheld- some compromise is expected. It's okay to point out the frame rate since that's just objective, informative fact, but don't then use that as an excuse to say "play somewhere else". Unless the frame rate is actually a disaster, which is a different scenario entirely.
I agree about the impossible ports. It has to actually be good in its own right, rather than just a technical achievement. To be fair, though, there are some impossible ports that genuinely stand their ground. Not all, but some. Less of an issue on NSW2 as seen with Cyberpunk and Star Wars.
@Azileron
If a port is severely compromised to the extent most reasonable people would agree it's better to avoid that version, then it's perfectly responsible to point that out.
But if a port is fine- acceptable within reasonable expectations, but it simply has some visual cutbacks, or runs at 30 instead of 60, they need to keep their mouths shut about where to play and simply inform the reader of those facts. And then let their reader decide if it's the version they want. The problem is they lead the reader/viewer, like propaganda, to agree with their conclusion which is too often "30 bad, buy the 60 version elsewhere" or "resolution is 1440p DLSS so buy the 4k version elsewhere". Like, stop it. Just say hey, this version is XYZ frames and resolution, and move on. That way, the individual is informed and can make their own decision without the influencer manipulating the individual's opinion by leading them to agree with their personal conclusions.

It started the moment NSW2 was announced. The $80 Mario Kart and key cards were certainly a catalyst but at that point, it seems like all the grifters saw it was popular to bash Nintendo so they hopped on that train and never got off. And this day they are trash talking over any and every aspect, they can spin to even remotely resemble a negative.
I have never had a problem with legitimate criticism. The problem is, 95% of criticism I see is grifter hate train BS. And when you call it out as such, the response is always the same- you get accused of "defending Nintendo". Like dude, I'll defend anything if I think the criticism is bogus or unwarranted. You don't get a free pass to defecate wherever you want and go unchallenged just because "it's Nintendo".
I voiced my displeasure with the price of MK8 but I did so without blowing a gasket, noting that I was actually getting the game for $50 in the bundle. I also voiced my displeasure with key carts, but I did so without blowing a gasket, noting I switched to digital anyways. I criticized the accessory prices, but did so without blowing a gasket, pointing out inflation and tariffs have had an impact.
But I see all kinds of nonsense in complaining that just never ends. Some of it is simply a culture of thinking its cool to crap on Nintendo, kinda like how everyone craps on Ubisoft or EA. I also think some of it is straight up jealousy. Deep down they're super impressed by the system and that stirs up resentment, which gets expressed through anger and slander.
There's an X account with a blue checkmark (so he gets paid on interactions) who will take every opportunity, several times per day, to insult and berate anyone playing a Switch 2 and it's games, or the games themselves.
Heck they even started saying Outlaws was running on a potato because the rock textures weren't as high resolution as PS5.
Rock textures. In an open world.
But it makes em money. The negativity is the base for capitalism.
It's like the whole $90 for Mario Kart thing.
One reputable website made an error and said the game was $90, because they saw the EU price of €90 and thought Nintendo would pull a Sony and just change the symbol and call it a day (They charge £70 and $70, and you know those aren't the same, whereas Nintendo charges $70 and £60 which are more exchange rate based).
They ran that story, never changed it, never updated it after being corrected, other sites ran with it, and because negativity sells views and views pull ad revenue....well there you go.
And to this day despite retail listings, the eShop, Nintendo website, Amazon, Target, Best Buy, being able to see the game and it's price in any shop in existence they STILL parrot the $90 line.
At that point you realize it's willful ignorance for the sake of revenue.
@Haruki_NLI It's $98 (969 NOK minimum at retail) here in Norway. No our purchasing power isn't that inflated. Gaming is global, you might've just misunderstood their point, although I don't know and don't care what specific website misreported it. The fact is the game is woefully expensive for what you get by any metric, anywhere.
@OmnitronVariant The specific misinformation that keeps being spread around under game announcements is that it is specifically $90, in the currency known as US Dollars, the good old green, nickels and dimes. Whatever you wanna call it.
Yes gaming is global, yes its expensive in many places, I simply stated how the misinformation started by directly converting Euros to Dollars by changing the symbol.
I aint saying its not expensive. I agree many games and accessories and hardware are expensive across gaming as a whole, as well as across multiple industries.
I was simply making a point that misinformation breeds views that breeds money, thus there is never a need to correct it. And the biggest bit of misinformation that is still trumpeted is that Mario Kart World was $90 in the US of A.
Don't get so defensive just because I said Pancakes bad but then also didnt say waffles are bad. I dont need to be explicit in everything just to keep you happy.
Now back on the ignore list you go. Clippy was retired years ago, just like some of your arguments should have been.
@Azileron Influencer culture has become one of the most bizarre social experiments.
On one hand, social media culture allows quick sharing and discussion. However it also creates echo chambers, and those echo chambers as we see are profitable. Very profitable.
On the other hand, good lord, people need to....I dunno.....not so much think for themselves per se, but be more open to the idea of being wrong? Its hard to describe. Its that weird doubling down many of the grifter accounts, like the one I described, did.
Another example, though the timing was convenient with the release of Star Wars Outlaws, so it's 50/50, but Digital Foundry suddenly became much more positive about Switch 2 the moment they became independent. Which I think says a lot for how money dictates what we think are our opinions.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations
Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
@OmnitronVariant sadly the ignore feature has been altered as it is harder to block. So if you are ignored they can’t see you but you can see them. Good rule of thumb is if you reply twice and never see a response or they move on you may not exist anymore to them. The only thing that is annoying is ignored users can still like comments since they can see you so they get to creep on you in the shadows. Sorry to butt in but threads often get derailed when somebody gets confused or offended by the ignore function here. I’m not a fan of the new changes as I enjoyed the peace on both sides block brings but it is what it is.

Looks like amiibo preorders are going live for the direct announcements (in US). Hoping they will be up around payday for me. A string of “life happens”means I can’t go preorder crazy right now.

@Azileron
I get what you're saying. It feels like a subtle dig.
I don't know. The only port I played on my original Switch that I felt was downgraded enough to make me feel like it was an inferior game was Hogwarts Legacy. It was pretty bad. The muddy textures, the loading times were awful. It was enough to keep me from finishing it even after I clawed through like 20 hours of it.
So, I think ultimately reviewers should tell people about stuff like that. But again, that was the only one I encountered that felt egregious.
@rallydefault I agree with you on the overwhelmed feeling. I’m still cleaning out my old Switch wishlist and Nintendo is like “oh we have more switch games for you. Wait you have a 2 as well? Here you are gonna need to write this down because your bank account is on tap till 2028.” The only comfort I have is that I have not increased my game budget since I know it will take years to buy let alone play everything. So at least I can still tell myself I am a responsible adult lmao.

@kkslider5552000 I don’t get it either. It seems there’s no pleasing some people.
And often when you question people about what they want it’s this vague notion of “big” games.
As if we didn’t get Mario Kart World (which may go on to be the best selling Switch 2 game of all time) and DK Bananza (one of the top-rated games of the year, and one of the most innovative 3D platformers of the past decade) in the first 2 months. And then we have Pokémon and Metroid Prime 4 (a game that’s been highly anticipated for 8 years) in the next few months.
But people will find whatever reason that these games “don’t count” / they will forever move the goalposts.
Honestly I’ve been having these discussions since the Switch days and it’s tiring. Really just not worth discussing.
I would say that my frustrations with the perceived tendency of conclusions commonly summing up to "Get this somewhere other than on a Nintendo console" ultimately comes from very different experiences and expectations across the people playing the games, where in the end I don't think my expectations necessarily align too well with those of the reviewers. One person's compromised port is another person's treasure, I suppose.
To clarify what I meant here when I was saying there's reason to mention if a game is better played elsewhere or doing these kinds of platform comparisons. I think there's merit to it from a pure journalistic sense, a review is there to inform the reader on whether or not content is worth it. And that would include whether or not the content is worth it on this specific platform as opposed to others. So there's that
But what I had in mind when I made that comment was more the impossible ports on Switch. The games that when ported to Switch it couldn't hit a stable 30fps, or were sometimes running at 360p, or had content removed, or loading zones added. I was never really interested in those kinds of ports on Switch and I think when that kind of thing happens it should be highlighted very clearly. But also, I don't think that kind of thing is really happening on Switch 2 that much at all
@WoomyNNYes
As someone who shares your enthusiasm for analogue triggers despite many others on these forums dismissing them I think the time for this wish has passed. They're not doing analogue triggers this gen, sadly, that's just how it is. It's certainly not because they can't do it, they certainly can, they literally sell GC controllers for NSO which have it. It's just they don't seem to see the need for it or are just... against the idea for some reason....
I don't get it, I don't agree with it. But it's how it is. But what I will say is that my desire for analogue triggers does not come bundled with any desire for them to stop them releasing replica controllers, game and watch revisions, mini consoles, leg straps, resistance training controllers, bongos, RC cars, scales, pedometers, IR sensors, gyros, touch screens, optical sensors, pulse oximeters, alarm clocks, talking flowers or whatever else they end up doing. Because that stuff is what Nintendo is. A toy company who makes toys
@WoomyNNYes
Its not that they can't. Of course they can. They simply don't want to, as @skywake said. And that decision has nothing to do with unrelated accessories.
There's always the wireless GC controller for NSO. It has analog triggers and works for GRID and Trials Rising and maybe some others, Idk.
@Buizel
Mario Kart World, DK Bonanza and Pokémon Legends Z-A are 3 brand new games released in the first 6 months that will sell double digit millions each. Add Mario Galaxy 1/2 and thats another double digit million seller, even if it's not "new".
In fact they're dropping 6 notable brand new games not counting Drag X Drive, Welcome Tour, Mario Galaxy 1/2, Zelda BotW NSW2 Ed, Zelda TotK NSW2 Ed, Mario Party Jamboree NSW2 Ed or Kirby Forgotten Land NSW2 Ed, and it's not accounting for the DLC for DK Bonanza or Pokémon Legends Z-A.
I also think its worth noting we have several console exclusives that, barring PC, can only be played on Switch 2. And a few full exclusives for that matter.
Hear me out, people buy games they want to buy, and don't buy games they don't want to buy. There, argument solved.
That's exactly what I do! 😉

If you go on X the entire timeline is literally just people bitching about prices, saying "Mario Tennis is a spinoff- now we're charging $70 for spinoffs?!". Like... ya? You dumb little [I'll keep my mouth shut- what I was gonna say wasn't very Christian of me]. It's a fully fledged entry in a longstanding series. Being a "spinoff" aka "not 3D Mario" doesnt make it a lesser game. Its EVERYTHING that gets complaints endlessly levied against it. Metroid Prime looks like a PS3 game. Mario Galaxy 1/2 at $40/ea ($70 for both) is too much ergo Nintendo is evil and rhe most anticonsumer business in the industry. Yoshi art style sucks. Pokémon DLC announced before release means it was cut out of the game (announcing isn't the same as releasing at launch). Shows Mario Galaxy title screen on SteamDeck. Nice try moron, just because it runs doesnt mean its playable. You need a pointer simultaneously while using buttons and right analog- that doesnt work without a Wiimote and sensor bar and even then its subpar compared to dual joycon where you have a right analog. But Nintendo haters dont care. Nevermind those trivial details- just pretend you can get a similar experience and hope everyone's too ignorant to call your bluff. Or my favorite, "they're MAKING us spend $100 to play old games". Like, nobody has a gun to your head. You dont HAVE to buy it. And theres a $25 option which is reasonable.
Like, its ok to not be impressed with something or feel a product isn't worth the price. But its all I see. I can scroll for 5 minutes and every single post is "overpriced", "anticonsumer", "bootlicker", "pirating Nintendo is always justified", etc etc
I cant stand it anymore. It's a cesspool of ignorance and prima donnas and haters and people who thrive off negativity. Like dude, don't like the price, dont buy it. Wanna garbage experience emulating? Got for it. Why are you announcing it to the world though? I know- cause its about scoring points with like minded peers rather than actually enjoying video games.
Oh and here's a good one. "I see disinterest everywhere, ppl are fed up with these prices and Switch 2 sales are gonna reflect it, especially with no exciting games releasing" REALITY > NSW2 continues to sell just fine, averaging 1 big new exclusive per month, plus NSW2 Editions and smaller exclusives and remasters like Mario Galaxy 1/2 (which ppl were clamoring for burn now that we're getting it, oh I dont wanna pay for it). Clearly it's exciting and appealing enough for most people who aren't chronically online and live in an echo chamber bubble.
EVERY GAME devolves into neverending manufactured outrage over pricing. Like geeze people, games cost what they cost. Buy it or dont. Nobody has a gun to your head forcing you to buy anything.
I just wanna be excited for all the exciting games coming but there's an army of haters and Nintendo-hating footsoldiers doing everything they can to derail excitement and hijack the conversation to revolve around bitching and moaning.
I swear if any other hobby made me that p***** off all the time 24/7, Id find a new hobby. If you find yourself constantly angry about everything a company does.Maybe you should write them off and go find some other hobby or some other console that doesn't p*** you off all the time and spare us from the daily tirades that are essentially a broken record. Every single game that gets announced, they just repeat the same c*** they said for the last game- it's not worth the price. Always digging up that one example of a remake for $40 as proof it's overpriced while ignoring the 99 other full priced remasters. They don't use those as an example, define the needle in the haystack to justify their criticism. "Ohh, this one game five years ago was sold for less ergo anything that sells for more is corporate greed and if you buy the game, you're just licking their boots cause youre a sucker"
Thats how I know their true agenda. Because they insult anyone who's excited or plans to buy a game. It's not enough to simply voice their personal opinion on whether they feel something is worth it, they declare it as objective fact and insult anyone who feels otherwise. I know they're fake a** gamers (and I use the term "gamer" loosely because these people don't even deserve that title).
Just let us be excited for upcoming games and share that excitement with each other as we have fun playing our Switch 2 systems. There's an army of people that resent anyone who is having fun.And so they want to explain to you why you're such an idiot and why you should be angry.Like they are and why you shouldn't be playing the game you're enjoying because it costs too much or whatever.
Screw off haters. If you don't like, switch two or you think all the gains are taking advantage of people, then don't play it. Don't buy it. Go get a playstation or an xbox or a PC, and hopefully they don't have to endure your insufferable rants like we have.
Anyways.
Who's playing Persona 3 Reload demo? Or Trails In the Sky demo?
I have Nath in my friends list (cant remember who that is here since names never seem to align) and invited to Gamechat since they're online playing Star Wars but they never joined. I had that issue the last half dozen times I"ve invited people. Only one who's accepted is my brother and Uli, but being online at the same time as them is kind of rare.
I've also found the majority of my friend list hasn't even set up game chat so I can't even invite them.
Its such a cool feature, even if not using a camera, just being able to screenshare and chat is great. I only wish I was able to successfully create chats more often.
