I really dislike the "I have a secret" dance these people play. Obviously they're playing the algorithm and gaming the engagement but still. It always seems a bit childish and unprofessional
If you have insider information either:
1. Publish it
2. Keep it quiet
Some playlists: Top All Time Songs, Top Last Year
An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions

I agree they are often annoying, but the point of the dance is to get clicks. Although publishing it in a straightforward manner would also get clicks, that's a very good way for them to lose their sources for next time so it would be a loss for them overall.
My prediction for the Direct is that it'll either be 15-20 minutes longer than the typical general Direct for Mario 40th stuff, or that we get an announcement for a Mario 40th Direct for the following day.
What do we think will be the opener? I could see it being Prime 4 release date, or maybe a Kirby Air Riders character reveal trailer?
@PikminMarioKirby I think Prime 4 has a good chance of being the opener.
It's had a slot at the end and a slot in the middle so yeah let's have it at the start!
As for how long it's going to be, it's tricky especially when you throw in any 40th anniversary stuff.
But I think it's worth noting that they may not have 15 mins worth of content like they had in 2020. Of, if they do, they'll be a lot snappier with it this time.
I could see it being in the middle of the presentation, it would be nice if Miyamoto came out to do it as this might be his last one at the company.
And if I were to guess what we'll get, I'd probably go for Mario Wonder Switch 2 edition, some merch, news about the movie, maybe something like Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Switch 1 and if we're lucky a teaser for the next 3D Mario and I think if they were to do that, they'd put it at the end.
@Nintoz
I know I'm going to get flak for this but while I think Super Mario Bros. Wonder was a slight step in the right direction for 2D Mario, I just didn't consider it good enough. And I while I can definitely see them pumping out a 'Switch 2' edition, I have my doubts they will include anything significant to justify its existence.
Ain't no way in heck are they going to show off the new 3D Mario, maybe they'll tease the next Mario movie (which I dread), but we won't hear of the new 3D Mario until mid-next year at the very least. Also, we ain't going to see Super Mario Galaxy 2 again until they release it on a NSO Wii service, and even then it'll be late in the cycle if ever.
@Nintoz
As much as I would love to see a new Mario game, I don't see it happening any time soon. But if they were to show one off, I would hope they would go back to their 'experimental' days. No Bowser kidnapping a ruler of a kingdom very similar to the Mushroom Kingdom or it taking place in the actual MK, new foes and big bad, new objective(s), have some new protagonists, or at the very lest give some flavor/character to the old enemy designs (like the old Paper Mario games). Have an actual story with substance tacked onto it would be a nice change of pace. Just really holding out hope they will break the mold that's been going on since the Galaxy days, and just give us something wildly new instead of them playing it safe again. However, I will say that Odyssey, Wonder, and Brothership have been good (if not mediocre) minor steps in the right direction.
@Grumblevolcano That has crossed my mind but it's worth noting that the upgrades/DLCs that are already on the expansion pack are from games that have already sold millions by the time they're put on there.
When adding something like that to the NSO+EP, they'll want to make sure it has mass appeal so people don't feel like they're missing out on a benefit or rather, feel like they have to shell out another £50 to enjoy the benefit.
I think doing that for a game that hasn't been released let alone for (as much as we hate to admit it) a pretty niche franchise, would be a strange choice.
Yes it could be a marketing move, but it would only really benefit those who are already likely to buy Metroid Prime 4.
@Nintoz I was thinking Prime 4 being the indicator of how they handle performance upgrades in the future. Not adding Prime 4 would be a hint of BotW/TotK being an exception bonus to the subscription but if they did add Prime 4, perhaps it being that most 1st party $10 upgrades are added (Pokemon being an exception because TPC says no?).
@Grumblevolcano I certainly wouldn't complain if that were the case. On paper, the Switch 2 edition of Pokémon Z-A is quite a hard sell for a paid upgrade when Scarlet and Violet got one for free amongst others.
At least you could say with Metroid Prime 4 and the two Zeldas, you get mouse controls and...the Zelda Notes app. Hardly $10 worth of additions but it is something that can be advertised with the upgrade alongside the visual enhancements.
@Nintoz tbh, if Kirby Switch 2 edition upgrade had come with NSO, I would have been tempted to get expansion pack. At the moment the 'extras' are S2 editions (with no true DLC) of games most people already played to death anyways, DLC for a past generation of mario kart, DLC for a past generation of Splatoon and old animal crossing DLC which.... I guess is nice for the few people who are just starting animal crossing.
If that part of NSO is just supposed to be a bonus, then I guess it's fine, but it's not adding much worth to the service currently.
So we're still expecting it this week right? I've been so busy following football the past few days that I haven't been paying attention to direct news lol.
@Bigmanfan the leaks haven't changed. Plus... there is always a September direct and Mario anniversary is this weekend so this week would be very likely even without any rumours.
Seeing Nintendo skip Splatoon 3 and Mario with their Nintendo Music drop makes me wonder if the Direct turns out to be just a Partner Showcase then on Saturday there's a small SMB 40th anniversary video comparable to Mar10 Day 2024 but only about non-gaming stuff like the movie and merch.
@Hapless I doubt it's just third party. They pretty much have to say something about Metroid Prime 4 now, bare minimum. They're running out of time for that if they're still set on it being a 2025 game, and if not they should announce a delay soon. I also doubt they'll let the 40th anniversary for Mario pass without announcing some kind of game. I don't think we make it to the end of September without these two announcements, and if they're saying Direct this week now is the time. I'm doubting they have three separate Directs for these two plus a third party Partner Showcase, we're probably getting two Directs at most. So I don't think this will be a Partner Showcase. It'll either be a general, a Mario 40th, or a Prime 4 Direct.
