@PikaPhantom Ehh, DK sells a tad too much to be considered a filler game just before the Switch 2 launches. DKCR sold 6.53 million and the Switch port of TF sold 4.62 million. That's not exactly chump change. If the DK game is indeed real, it's probably an early Switch 2 title, or at best cross-gen.
I could imagine DK as a game they advertise now but then also advertise especially for Switch 2. The same could happen with Mario Wonder DLC. Any big games late this year will likely automatically be cross gen sellers (or Switch 2 exclusives but we wouldn't hear about those now). Being in this direct doesn't necessarily mean 'filler'.
Donkey Kong is a fairly big franchise but it might get even more popular if Nintendo has a new game before the Mario movie hype fully wears off.
@FishyS I don’t think Nintendo will use a 2D Mario, especially DLC, to try and push the Switch 2. They’ll want to showcase the power it has and I’m pretty sure a 3D Mario is going to be there either at launch or very soon afterwards and that’s the better way to show off the need to make that upgrade to the new console.

Sure, there will be Switch 2 exclusives used to really push Switch 2 but that doesn't mean there won't also be cross-gen games this year they try to sell heavily on both consoles, maybe even with a special edition or something for Switch 2.
I can't imagine them going too heavy on Mario. They're going to oversaturate people on the series at this point, given how many Mario games are releasing in close proximity. Mario Wonder was last year, Mario RPG, and this year we have Princess Peach Showtime, Luigi's Mansion 2 Remastered (doesn't deserve to even be a thing since the game sucked), Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, and then the hypothetical new 3D Mario, assuming that we're getting one for the launch of Nintendo's next console.

So we know there isn't a Direct this week given 3pm UK time passed without an announcement though there is another State of Play next week (February 6th) dedicated to FFVII Rebirth so it seems like Direct will probably be very close to State of Play.
@VoidofLight The comically large amount of Mario games we’ve been seeing lately is likely related to the movie releasing last year so I’m hoping we get some more non-Mario games this year too
Speaking of what I want to see at a potential Direct, it would be a dream come true for me if a new Rhythm Heaven (or just a port of any of the games) gets announced. I know there’s been some issues with reviving it but so many people are starving for RH on the Switch so maybe it can happen? The fact we got two Warioware games two years apart from one another with RH getting no attention at all just feels sad
@rallydefault I wouldn't say it's gone that far given a load of people did predict next week. I do think next week is the last chance for a Direct in February given February 14th/15th would clash with Mario vs. DK, February 21st/22nd would clash with Side Order and February 28th/29th would clash with the annual Pokemon Presents.
So if there's no Direct next week they'll probably have the next Direct be the Switch 2 reveal.
@Grumblevolcano
My guess at this point is no Direct in February given all the stuff they showed on their Twitter. It was weird, and kind of covered a lot of bases that honestly would have been in a Direct.
I think we're gonna get a Switch 2 announcement Direct sort of thing in March. That's my final answer. With the usual stipulation that if next week happens, that would be great, but it's not my guess.
Space and Games are similar. Space is endless and new stuff is out there waiting to be discovered. Games are always being made but the creativity is different from one game to another and so many more ideas still haven't been imagined or created yet. (That came out better than expected lol)
@GalaxicGlobe If the Direct is next week perhaps we’ll see the bird speak tomorrow (he started leaking the Sep Direct on a Friday before it was announced the following week)
We still have the first two weeks of February to see if there's a direct. My bets are still against us getting anything outside of a Pokemon Presents on Pokemon Day, but who knows.
