I've been playing MGS2 on NS2 for about 4-5 hours (not straight). I'm at a part now and between 10-20 minutes of playing the game is just shutting down saying there was an error. I tried the game on my switch lite and it works fine. Seems to definitely be something to do with NS2.
Contact their Software support to update or fix the issue if that's that case. If this isn't a Nintendo created game then it's up to the Software Devs to resolve the run issues.
@Klarkus If the game has the option to load previous save points, you could try that. If it's a bug/error tied to your progress, it's possible restarting the game may be the only solution.
It's emulation so there are surely going to be some games like this that will need updates/patches to work properly. However I think overall most people have been well impressed with the level of Switch 1 compatibility with Switch 2. I was expecting much more issues than we have had. I think this is something Nintendo have done brilliantly well. However that doesn't help when you have one of the few games with big issues.
@WoomyNNYes Does it all the time. I've restarted system and it just crashes about 5 minutes into playing it now. I tried it on my switch lite from the same save file and it works fine on switch lite so it's a switch 2 issue.
@Klarkus Really? Ok. So it doesn't sound like a bug with the game or your progress.
At this point, I'm going to suspect an issue with your sd card. If an sd card is dying, it can freeze or slow down severely, and maybe that's why your game is crashing. You can try moving the game to the switch's internal storage or put the game another sd card. If the problem goes away, I think the sd card is the problem.
I've seen people recommend reformatting a card, or reinstalling the game, but I've never seen reinstalling a game solve anyone's problem. And I don't have enough experience to say whether reformatting a card can solve something like this. (if anyone has, chime in!)
If your game is already on switch internal storage and you have this problem, that might be an indication of a switch hardware problem. But 99% of the time, when someone says their games are freezing or very slow to load, it's almost always a failing sd card.
@WoomyNNYes I don't have any SD card just the internal storage. Might be worth reinstalling it. I don't see the point in the cartridge when you've got to download all the games anyway.
Thing is I've been playing mgs2 on switch 2 for around 5 hours play time now. No problems. It just seems to have happened around this one area of the game which makes me think it's a problem with switch 2 and mgs2 in general.
@Klarkus Maybe it's just a bug with the switch 2 version & the emulation, which wouldn't be shocking.
Does the game allow you to load previous save points? You could try and go back a bit, and replay the most recent part of the game to see if you run into the same bug. If the game doesn't have save points, then starting a new game would be the only alternative, I think. Granted, that stinks. (or try playing through with a different switch user on switch 2 - again, I know that sucks.)
@Klarkus Nintendo just released a firmware update for Switch 2 (20.2.0). This update fixed a backwards compatibility bug in a game I'm playing (Gunbird 2), so it's worth testing again.
