@kkslider5552000 The problem with that strategy is you need multiple studios actually interested in developing Star Fox, that takes developers that see Star Fox as being successful (as with Mario, Zelda, or Pokemon) and/or enough developers that love Star Fox that much that they can form multiple studios (as with Metroid, which is not particularly successful but highly beloved enough in the West that there's multiple developers willing to work on it as a passion project). Star Fox has neither right now. They're going to have to pick a style that works, develop it until it becomes successful, and then find more developers willing to work on it that can form multiple teams.
Technically, there are a couple developers working on very obvious Star Fox clones ( Wild Blue Skies, Fur Squadron, and Ex-Zodiac, off the top of my head ) that could only be inspired by love of the original. However, that's still exponentially less than the supply of developers working on, say, metroidvanias. And all of them seem to be not just indie but very small indie, without much scale or reputation. I can't see Nintendo partnering with them the way they did for Cadence of Hyrule.
My half serious argument I'd make for every "that's great but who would make it?" counterpoint is that eleventy billion game developers have lost their job in the past few years, surely some of them could be found who have some experience making X type of game.
I mean similarly, you can look at game studios that went from mediocre to great games, simply because they had better leadership, like Double Helix or (being honest here) Mercurysteam.

"I'd also argue that unless Mario sales suddenly double (or maybe 1.5X) in Switch 2 generation, that the movie can only do so much and similar to Sonic(a series that should be as big as ever from those movies but isn't)"
This line has been bothering me for awhile and I think I've realized why. The issue is that when it comes to film tie-ins and the like, there's a very narrow window in which it can have an impact on game sales.
But it does have an impact.
For example, one game I played quite a bit in the past was Jurassic World Evolution 2. That was originally supposed to be released alongside JW3, but covid threw the filming of it off schedule. And unlike Universal which has bigger pockets, the Frontier developments couldn't delay the release of the game. So the game was released beforehand. When the movie actually did finally see release to theaters, the game sales grew substantially, it seems to have doubled. https://cms-cdn.zaonce.net/2025-09/frontier-fy23-results-pres...
Or let's look an example closer to home with The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The movie was released in Japan on April 28th. Here's what the weekly sales of Mario Kart 8 deluxe were around that time in Japan.
Mar. 27th to Apr 2nd: 10,377
Apr. 3rd to Apr. 9th: 9,991
Apr. 10th to Apr. 16th: 9,071
Apr 17th to Apr. 23rd: 7,416
Apr 24th to Apr. 30th:11,247
May 1st to May 7th: 21,466 <-----
May 8th to May 14th: 9,794
May 15th to May 21st: 16,528
May 22nd to May 28th: 8,373
So technically, the sales did double. I suspect what happened is that the game's market had already been tapped out.
In case, you're wondering Galaxy hasn't been released yet in Japan (not till the 24th), but I'm sure we'll see an impact, and perhaps a bigger one with Super Mario Kart World, given it isn't six years old at the time of release.
But again, it's a very narrow window when you see the impact.
@metaphysician Speaking of Wild Blue Skies, I saw a theory from Nintendo Forecast that that game may have been pitched as a Star Fox game that Nintendo rejected, so the developers turned it into an original IP when Nintendo said no. If true, this would suggest that Nintendo may not be interested in multiple Star Fox games. But IDR if there was any evidence of this or if they just looked at it being a spiritual successor and thought maybe they originally wanted to partner with Nintendo on a Star Fox revival rather than making a Totally Not Star Fox spiritual successor.

This would be far easier said than done, there probably weren't many of them in the first place because not a whole lot of them have been made recently and the logistics of getting whoever has is probably very difficult (Do they want to work together? Have they found a job elsewhere? Do they want to work with Nintendo? Do they even want to keep working in video games? There can be a lot of reasons why a developer may not be in on this). It'll likely take years to put together a new team to work on a second set of Star Fox games.
This is of course, assuming that future Star Fox games aren't just developed internally by one of Nintendo's EPD teams.
Doesn't matter one way or the other there, putting together any new team takes times and it's hard to imagine more than one Nintendo team being free to develop for Star Fox (I strongly suspect one is, but two?). Nintendo is probably going to have to create more splinter teams if they want to make mutliple Star Fox games, and that is also probably going to take a few years. We are definitely NOT seeing say, 2 Star Fox games in 3 years or something, that's something they're going to have to build up to.
@Bolt_Strike Yeah, I don't see Star Fox getting that kind of release schedule. I don't even think Star Fox is(at the moment) big enough to get 2 games a system. Best outcome is something where SF as a series is just successful enough to warrant at least one new entry every console generation or so. Best examples I can think of are Pikmin or Smash Bros.* It's not a perfect comparison, I know, but you get what I'm saying, right?
Or have I crossed that obnoxious line?
*obviously not on the exact same levels of success of those, let's be real
@Bolt_Strike@N00BiSH In the outcome of both in close proximity it could be that classic is made by Forever Entertainment considering they did the Panzer Dragoon remake and Panzer Dragoon has a similar gameplay style to classic Star Fox.
This article also comes to mind taking into account we know they worked on DKC Returns HD.
Forever Entertainment already suck at remakes and remasters, I can't really get excited for a new game made by them, and I especially don't want them doing Star Fox
This is the rare time I'd rather have a remaster. Star Fox 64 is just so good I don't see it being improved upon. I rather just get the best looking version of that game.
Failing that I would like the game 'Nuclear Option' made with Star Fox IP. That game is absolutely amazing and would be a fantastic template for Star Fox to take it in another direction. But if they did that, it would be pay walled behind NSO and that would suck. So maybe forget anything with an online multiplayer function.
Never say never. Had anyone predicted the Wii U of all systems would get not one but two new Star Fox games, I'd hang onto every word they say now. But I don't think anyone here did.
I just fired up Star Fox 64 on Switch 2 N64 NSO app and beat a few stages getting their secret exits... forgot how much I loved this series and grew up on it, even back on SNES. The 3D remake on 3DS was and still is my favorite.
Looking forward to Star Fox Assault on GameCube NSO app. You know its coming, probably alongside Adventures as well though I'm less interested in that one. Not to say I wouldn't want a new entry that expands more in that direction, but it would need to be built ground up as a Star Fox game from day 1.
With the enormous success of Switch I can totally see the NS2 era being a more experimental phase for Nintendo, trying to bring back classic IP and/or make them more mainstream. Star Fox in the latest Mario movie is clear indication they want to give StarFox the DK Bonanza treatment, which I think we can all agree in saying it deserves that chance.
With Metroid Prime 4 (and the inevitable Metroid 6 and Metroid Prime 5 later this gen), Donkey Kong Bonanza, a new bigger budget Star Fox, the expansion of the Splatoon IP with Raiders (and I'm willing to bet we see a high budget Pikmin 5 this generation), this will be the generation where Nintendo is bringing classic back, Justin Timberlake style.
Wouldn't even surprise me if they found a team to work on a new F-Zero, though I'm not expecting anything on that front until the latter half of the generation. Could very well see Kid Icarus and Sin & Punishment return as well, if nothing else by at least providing dual-analog gyro HD remasters of Uprising and Star Successor.
Star Fox is on lock though. And that's incredibly exciting.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
I could maybe see two Star Fox games from two "studios" in close succession. . . if one of them were "Star Fox 99" or thereabouts, from whichever team makes the smaller 99-series games.
Anyway, another idea that is mostly genre-agnostic: selectable wingmen with impact. Which is to say, you play as Fox, as usual, and you have a wing as usual. . . but your wing is not ( usually ) fixed by plot. Rather, you select the 1-3 wingmen to bring along out of a larger available pool. And while this choice probably should have story impact, its primary effect is mechanical, as different pilots have different properties. In a more sophisticated implementation, this could be that each pilot has distinct skills and behavioral AI, so every one plays in a different manner ( ex: Falco beelines the biggest enemy on the field, while Peppy focuses on shooting down enemies chasing other arwings ). On a more basic level, it could be abstracted as ability modifiers that apply to the player ( ex: Slippy grants a Jamming ability, so homing projectiles stop homing; Krystal grants a Foresight ability, that gives enemies an extra flash signaling when they are about launch a big attack ).
