Topic: Nintendo Music App

Difficult one this week, I'll go for either Super Mario 3D World, the rest of Splatoon 3 (again) or Link's Awakening.

It's Valentine's week so I guess I'm putting undue stock in co-op games this week.

Ooh, we got a good one this week - Paper Mario: The Origami King! I was actually just listening to this one today via YouTube out of the blue, that's wild lol

Legitimately one of my favorite osts ever!!!

I officially give up trying to guess anything ever. I really thought it was a near 100% chance we would get a mario tennis sound track this week.

i was ready to go all caps for this one, finally, a truly great one! (i like tomodachi's ost but it's mostly chill fodder and not a game i care for a ton - looking forward to the sequel though!)

i just know i'm gonna absolutely stuff my favorites with songs from this game, it's truly amazing

What I heard of the game's soundtrack on YouTube (which is all of it, since it came out when I watched a YouTube gamer who played a lot of Nintendo games back in the day, though I don't watch his videos as much as I used to) is actually pretty good. I'll make sure to listen to some of it later.

I'm not a big fan of the game itself, but I can't deny that it has some great music. Happy to see the soundtrack get added. Also, just throwing this out there... perhaps we'll see a special release for Mario Tennis Fever on or near the game's launch?

Glad to see this addition is one people are excited for! I have no history with the Paper Mario series (yet) so it's all new to me.

Don't overthink it too much bud. You will have played games I and others haven't (like Origami King) so you'd still be introducing people to new stuff.

Anyways my additions are
1) Don't Speak Her Name -Fire Emblem Awakening
If you've played the game you will probably remember this emotionally charged track but given that it's still trapped on the 3ds I suspect a lot of people here haven't. It is on the Nintendo Music Selects playlist which I tried to avoid overlapping with but I made an exception here as it is an all timer for me.

2) Parting Ways - Wind Waker
It's a piano version of AlttP's Hyrule Castle theme that plays one time around the final confrontation. It starts out real slow and builds pace and complexity in a way that I love.

3) Lanayru Mining Facility - Skyward Sword
I wobbled between this and the sand sea(which is probably better) but I don't really here people talk about this dungeon track. The juxtaposition of the two halves, one tinny and decrepit, the other rich in melody and power has stayed with me for over 20 years.

4) Course BGM-2 - Mach Rider
Don't have a lot of 80s stuff on this playlist. I have no idea how you are supposed to play this game but I am certain this is a banger.

5) Main Theme - Metroid Prime 4
I feel it's a bit hard to justify a main theme being on this playlist but:
a) There is no Metroid on this playlist
b) This series has become kind of niche
c) The Nintendo Music selects playlist doesn't include it
This is probably my most played track on the app despite only being there a few months. It's another one of two halves. The first half is kind of fitting the standard Metroid Prime style theme but then it just morphs into this weird ethereal guitar x choral mix that genuinely doesn't sound like anything I've heard before.

Went through the Origami King OST, finding and adding what I liked, but there's a good chance that I may have missed something; I only played the game once five years ago, and the app was stuttering like mad for me last night (why does it do that ugh). So if anybody has any suggestions for good songs from the game that I might've overlooked, I'm all ears! (Not battle themes though, I was fairly thorough with that.)

Parting Ways is an excellent pick, now I wish that I had thought to choose that! Legit one of the best versions of that theme.

Heck yeah, I love the autumn mountain battle theme

I didn't realize how good this one was until I heard it again last night, currently eyeing it up for my "bangers" playlist.

All right, I think I've finalized my list....
Hyper Diver / Anxiety Society — Splatoon 3
S3's story mode has a toooon of bangers, but I finally picked this one as a pretty underrated theme. It was close between this and Ride or Fry / Octoplush
Fireworks Show — Animal Crossing: New Leaf
This is a nice, peppy tune that I rarely hear talked about, but I think it's amongst the best in the game!
Tour Singapore Speedway (Chinatown) — Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
One of the few songs in the game that isn't instantly recognizable to most folks. I love the original slightly more, but this one deserves its laurels as well!
Toad's BBQ Foodeatery — Paper Mario: The Origami King
Just a fun, jaunty tune! I haven't ever finished a PM game, but I really like this song a lot.
Rolling-Quartet Jazz Band — Kirby's Dream Buffet
This game is honestly really fun, and it's got a great OST! I was between this one and Suite: The Star-Conquering Traveller yadadadada, but decided against it because that one had too long a name lol.

The Dual-Bladed Duelist is really, really good.

After overthinking it for a bit, I'm gonna go ahead and change one of my picks for the niche songs playlist - Battle With the Returned Master Kohga - over to Japon from F-Zero X. Hope that's alright!

@Robot99 the battle themes caveat does kill off most of my picks, but i do have some that aren't just battle themes (although in total i have 32 favorites from this ost!)

super star - this theme comes up so rarely but it an absolutely amazing version of the song.

sweet sap loggins theme - kinda reminds me of an area theme from the ttyd remake.. pleasant bop.

graffiti underground - can you tell this game has some good remixes?

cafe - i think out of all of the toad town variations, this one might be my favorite.

battle lab - okay, i know you said no battle themes, but i imagine you might've forgotten about this one.

coffee break - nintendo really knows how to make chill piano music, huh? kinda makes me hope for epic yarn on here someday...

enter birdo - statement or request aside, genuinely a great theme for birdo. we love her and by that i mean i do.

swan lake - punk remix - no comment.

shogun studios - the intro especially is a huge jam.

snif city - personally, prefer this over shroom city.

m-a-x power! - the synth at the start i know for certain i've heard in ddr songs before, and so that means i'm obligated to love this because i love ddr.

thrills at night - did you know there's an unused version of this song that sounds absurdly close to thriller? just letting you know.

scuffle island - same as battle lab, i bet you forgot this one.

hotfoot crater - violin-synth combo!!!

origami castle - imagine, if you will, a spherical olivia

ending - can you tell i'm bored of writing all this? anyways a genuinely lovely rendition of the smb ending theme.

staff credits - perfect capstone jam. nothing else to say.

I'm glad to hear Nintendo Music got an omega God tier level soundtrack. One of the Switch's best, maybe THE best? Hard to say for certain, but it's amazing.

Thanks for all of the recommends, I'll have to look into some of these later! I actually do have several of these (including the Battle Lab haha, although I missed it on my first pass!), but there's definitely a few here that I overlooked.

When I was skimming through the OST the other night, I clicked on the Super Star theme expecting a generic remix, ended up doing a "wait wtf is this" double take. Yes it got added to my playlist lol

My most insignificant interest possible is the different ways you can arrange a video game soundtrack to make sense, so its interesting to see how its done depending on the game. Some of these are clearly just old official OST releases put onto an app. Some of them are just when they're first played in game, in order. Some of them do their best to make the specific choice to feel like there's a good mix between main level themes or the like, occasionally regardless of when they first place, which is an incredibly specific fixation(?) I appreciate.

Star Fox 64 decided to just group them by a few types. Here's all the menu themes, here's all the level themes, here's all the boss themes, a few other things, credits. Also some of the level themes loop once, some of them don't. Ok.
