Started up my yearly run of Castlevania Symphony of the Night, last night. Playing it on PS4 so It doesn't have the original voice actors nor script which is a downer but it still plays well.

Most horror games aren't just scary for me, they're difficult. Like the Resident Evil games. All the ammo you have to conserve, I end up wasting because I'm in a panic to kill that one villager in RE4 (the original game that is). Seriously, they're not zombies, how is a single headshot only making them stumble instead of killing them?!
The later resident evil aren't like that. The remakes are a little bit though. More ammo for the most part in 4, 5, and 6.
My worry with the earlier games was the amount of saves needed to beat the game. Speaking of RE, think I might be buying RE4R soon if I don't buy alan wake 2.
@NeonPizza You know that is a series that I have never played, Splatterhouse. I know that's surprising especially with my love for 80's slasher movies. Definitely going to have to change that one of these days.
Mega Man 7 was a blast Definitely a step up from the same old stuff on the NES games. Shadesman stage is a good one to especially with it's nod to Ghosts n Goblins.

@NeonPizza Yeah I generally stick with the first 3 Mega Man games on NES, my favorite being 3 although 2 is a close second and 1 being a solid third. There's nothing wrong with 1 mind you it's just that 3 and 2 do it better. And yes totally agree that 1 isn't that hard.
I have yet to play 9, 10 or 11 but I hear good things about them. One of these days I will get around to them I suppose.
Oh and speaking of a nostalgia kick I fired up the NES version of SMB3 the other night and OMG instant nostalgia feels. I don't bother with any of the remake it's has to be the NES one.

Well with September nearing an end and October upon us its that time of the year again to break out the spooky games. My choice might seem obvious with a certain collection releasing a few weeks ago but here's what spooky games I will be playing this year for Halloween.
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (Switch) One of my favorite Castlevania games that I was never able to beat due to my 3DS getting stolen. I plan to rectify that this year.
Diablo IV (Series X) I know the new update comes out in a few days and its been awhile since I played this game. So I figured this will be a good time to return. Not quite sure if I will make a new character or continue with the one I started a few months ago.
If I get some time in between I might play Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclisia on the Switch as well. Not quite sure how much time I will have till the end of October once I beat PoR.
@NintendoByNature Portrait of Ruin is my favorite of the DS Castlevanias. I just thought the Portrait ideas were unique. I also liked the fact that it was a sequel to Castlevania Bloodlines.

I'm going to take a break from Wylde Flowers to try to beat World End Syndrome this October. Maybe play some Graveyard Keeper and Castlevania Circle of the Moon too.
I mentioned already on this topic a couple of years ago but I still say Pumpkin Jack is the best Halloween game to play. It's not that long of a game so it would be perfect to squeeze in sometime in this month.
This fire is burning and it's out of control. It's not a problem you can stop it's Rock and Roll!!!
@NintendoByNature Well if you never played Portrait of Ruin now is a good time to play it. You can never go wrong with a Castlevania game this time of the year.

Is anyone playing the RetroRealms halloween and ash vs the evil dead games? I realllllly want to buy ash but at 25, I just don't think I want to drop that kind of money right now.
Unfortunately - much like my haunted house extracurriculars - I'm not getting to much during spooky season this year. Unless the Famicom Detective Club games count, though those are more mystery than horror. Originally I was gonna play Emio: The Smiling Man and now have a clean enough slate for that, but now I'm wondering if I should buy and play the earlier FDC pair first. I have a GameStop gift card I could definitely use towards a discount. I'm not paying a full $60 for two VNs lol.
...Though I do have a Steam demo waiting for me in the form of Werewolf: The Apocalypse - The Book of Hungry Names, so maybe I'll take that for a spin.
Currently playing: Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake (Switch), Hades (Switch)
@NeonPizza I dig the first Splatterhouse, but I've always been partial to the third game, it's more of a beat 'em up than the other two. Some great monster designs, and I like navigating the different rooms of the mansion in each stage. I'm actually surprised we don't already have all three on Switch.
So I finally saw the credits to Portrait of Ruin last night and I will say this is my favorite DS Castlevania. I really enjoyed my time with this one and loved the two hero playstyle. I know when people think Castlevania on DS it's Dawn of Sorrow but I feel this one was better. It was nice to see this one get a release on Switch so people can enjoy it.
Up next for me, I am thinking a quick run of Dawn of Sorrow before the month is up.
